  1. I will be going to see Dr. Tseng in a couple days. I'm very nervous at the moment since I don't know any Chinese at all. I keep worrying about everything - if they accept American dollars, how I will find my way around, if I will have trouble communicating with Dr. Tseng what improvements I would like to make...the list is endless! Please wish me luck (or if you pray, then PLEASE pray for me!), and I will be sure to update you all on my results!

  2. Hi jenny, I was very close to booking a flight out to the Philippines. From having contacted Dr. Lorenzo, he seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about rhinoplasties. I asked him for a detailed description of his plan of operation for my revision, and he was able to tell me exactly what he planned to do to improve my nose. I'm not sure if he is as skilled performing the actual surgery as he is in describing the procedure, but I was definitely impressed by his before and after photos.

Have you heard positive reviews about Dr. Tseng? I am now planning on having my revision done by him, and if I do, it will be not even two full weeks from now! I'm starting to get nervous! You're probably wondering why I decided to go with Dr. Tseng, and that's because he uses autologous material, and Dr. Lorenzo doesn't anymore because he says that there was a high resorption rate when he performed rhinoplasties using autologous material. Dr. Tseng's preferred method for my revision is using Goretex with ear cartilage for the tip, but when I get there, I will try to see if he can and will do rib. I'm not sure about the permanence of Goretex, and I want something will last and not need revision again anytime soon! I read that after a while, Goretex will start to look fake and have my skin will have a shrink wrap effect around the implant. I have thick skin, though, so I'm not sure if that will be a problem.

  3. I was curious about Dr. Kimberly Lee from Beverly Hills, since there were a couple of people who said she was reasonably priced and quite good. I only saw one example of an Asian rhinoplasty on her web page, but decided to ask them about a complete revision rhinoplasty (including alarplasty) estimate anyway. Since I haven't heard that much about her until I read this blog, I was really surprised to find out that the estimate is in the ballpark of $15,000!

  4. Many thanks, shinangel! You've really done your research on doctors, and I am so grateful that you've shared some with me! I really liked Dr. Tseng's work. I think I would like to go with him if possible. Is his e-mail [email protected] ? That seems like a very strange e-mail for a doctor to have, but I'm desperate enough to send an e-mail to that address anyway. I want to have a revision as soon as I can, using autologous material if possible, and it seems like he is very good with that sort of deal.

  5. hey foxxie, i'm so confused too! i really want to get my nose done before the end of the year, but i really don't know who to go with. i was actually thinking about going to the philippines to see dr. rino lorenzo, but someone here told me he killed someone during a liposuction procedure due to negligence. i'm not getting that procedure from him, though, so i don't think i have to worry. I just want to get my nose re-done properly with an alarplasty, and my eyes too. i have eyelid folds, but have some extra fat that i'd like to get rid of in that area. i don't know what to think about dr. lorenzo's work in regards to eyes, though. it kind of just looks like cut-and-stitch work to me, but maybe those pictures were immediately after the surgery? i sure hope so. i'm also considering dr. lasa from the philippines too. he was trained over here in the states, so that could be either a bad or good thing. communication is great, but he says he doesn't e-mail pictures because of patient confidentiality, so i would actually have to fly out there to see before & after pictures. does that sound a little strange to you?

from what i remember reading on here, an L-shaped implant isn't a good idea, but i can't remember exactly what was said about it. =/ i'm surprised that dr. preecha's cost was so low! i will have to ask dr. somyos for pictures, and see if he does revision surgeries. i was really surprised when dr. poomee told me he doesn't do revision surgeries! i just logged in to dr. preecha's photo gallery, and wasn't that impressed.

for dr. jung's work, it would be in the ballpark of $8,000-$12,000, and that's more than i was looking to spend, so i won't be able to do my eyes, but most of his work is very natural-looking, even with dramatic change.

  6. Thanks shinangel. I'm thinking maybe Dr. Chuang isn't interested in working on my nose, then. There are some doctors who have replied who really don't see anything wrong with it at all, so maybe they prefer taller noses too. I've just sent Dr. Jung an e-mail, and am hoping to get a response from him soon. I like his work, but it's more than I was looking to spend!

  7. shinangel, my implant was of silicon.

rioizphils, what have you heard about the aesthetic outcomes of his work? from his before & after photos, he seems to be a good surgeon, but then again, you can never be certain. i was actually planning to go out to have my surgery done by dr. lorenzo quite soon, because he seemed very knowledgeable about rhinoplasties. he was able to give me a very thorough answer on his approach to a revision procedure based on my before and after photos. the only drawback is he does not do rhinoplasties with a patient's own cartilage/tissue.

  8. shinangel, i also just looked at your before and after photos. the after result actually doesn't look so bad. i can tell from studying it, though, that one nostril is smaller. i can totally understand what you mean when you say your implant shifted, too. i am vietnamese also, and your nose looks similar to mine.

here are my before and after photos from my US surgeon. the two pictures on the left side (side B) are my before pictures, and the two pictures on the right side (side A) are my after pictures. i don't know what happened, but the implant kind of curves at the tip. i also don't think i needed that much height added onto my nose. it just looks very fake. i think when i do my revision, i will get the implant removed and just fix the tip combined with the alar reduction.

  9. shinangel, out of curiosity i just took a look at dr. lansangan's page, and wow! i'm even more thankful that you mentioned him, because if i had seen his page, i would have been completely fooled. he has a numerous amount of very good "after" photos! whether photoshopped or not, i have to admit it looks like he is a very good surgeon.

i have heard from both dr. carlos lasa, and dr. lorenzo. it was very surprising, because they actually e-mailed me back within 5 minutes of each other. dr. lorenzo seemed very kind in his e-mail, and i probably need to be kicked for this, but he scored some bonus points in my book since he included bible quotes at the end of his e-mail. (i must be a sucker, yes.) anyway, dr. lasa told me that he would not be able to e-mail me any photos of his work to protect the confidentiality of his patients and that i will have to fly out to the philippines for a consultation. right now, i'm leaning toward dr. lorenzo, but either way, i'd be spending $700 for a flight out to the philippines.

  11. thanks shinangel! i haven't read anything about him yet, but thanks for the warning.

after asking dr. lasa for pictures, i haven't gotten a response. he is normally very quick to respond - usually within several hours to a day. i e-mailed dr. lorenzo earlier today, and found a blog that he had written on rhinoplasty. surprisingly, he listed dr. lasa as a reputable rhinoplasty surgeon, along with himself, of course. i really don't know what to think now. i can't find any reviews on either doctor, and i just found a filippino forum about rhinoplasty, but the problem is it's half english and half tagalog. there was a member who had written of a bad experience with a local doctor, and from what i can make of it, i don't think it's dr. lasa or lorenzo. :confused1:

i'm now considering dr. edwin paul v. magallona from the philippines, but i'll have to PM john1 for his advice on dr. lee. i saw a picture on his results page of a girl who had a nose similar to mine before she had her surgery, and afterward she came out with a "pug" nose. i'm scared that will end up being my nose too if i choose dr. lee as my surgeon.

  12. stylinchica, did your friend get the alar base reduction done as well? my former surgeon is offering to do it for me if absolutely necessary, but judging from my results after my rhinoplasty without it, i'm not sure if i would trust him to. i'm afraid i might end up with the pinched, triangular, cookie-cutter jackson family look.

i've heard about dr. charles lee from beverly hills. i'm not sure if that's who you were referring to, but i'm not really impressed with the results that i've seen on his page. i've heard that he is supposed to be pretty good, but i have thick skin, and i'd like to find someone who is REALLY good with alar base reduction to increase my chances of a positive outcome. maybe i'm wrong, and maybe dr. lee is more skilled than i think, but i think i'll keep looking. the doctors i'm interested in the US are out of my price range, and i'm getting tired of having a crooked beak nose.

when i had gotten my nose done, i told my doctor that i wanted a slimmer nose, and his solution was to put an implant in my nose, which in turn would give it the illusion of a slimmer appearance. the problem is that i already have a fairly tall nose. now i'm paranoid about getting a surgery done again in the US with the amount i can afford to pay. i'm afraid the surgeons in the US don't have as much experience with asian noses as doctors abroad who mainly work on asian noses.

  13. I'm new to this board, and I've been researching plastic surgeons to go to for a revision. I didn't do my research when I had first gotten my nose done, and got a doctor who wasn't very experienced in Asian rhinoplasty. I have to say his work on other noses is great, but on mine, not so much. I think it looks fake, too tall, and crooked. It looks like the same nose I had before, except a lot more prominent and beak-like. My relatives say that my face looks a lot longer now. I want to go get my nose done abroad since the doctors there seem to have a lot more experience with Asian plastic surgery. I've been looking into the Philippines, and was wondering if there are any plastic surgeons that anyone can recommend from there? I've been corresponding with Dr. Carlos Lasa. He's been very quick to e-mail responses, but hasn't sent any of his before and after photos yet. I'm mainly interested in getting my nostrils reduced, but don't want to end up with a pinched, triangular elf-like nose, and don't want to pay an arm and a leg for a nose revision. I'm very impressed by Dr. Rino Lorenzo, and have yet to contact him, but if anyone can recommend a great rhinoplasty surgeon from the Philippines, I would very much appreciate it!

    Here is Dr. Lorenzo's work:
