omg, sorry to heard that from you. Are you ok now? Me, too. I plan to go the end of Jan for my vacation but I'm not really sure I want a nj done. It's kind scary, heard all the korean wave plastic surgery...

Hi everyone,

It has been a while since my last post and I am still extremely depressed that I cannot even function. The botched rhinoplasty at Samsung Aesthetic Clinic in Korea has literally ruined my life...As I see some of you are researching clinics in Korea, I just want to warn people to avoid this clinic at all costs as I don't want anyone to go through what I have been through. At first, I didn't want to mention the clinic but thinking back, one of the reasons that made me confident to go ahead with this clinic was a good review from this forum. So I thought my post might save some future victims from a disaster.

I had never in my life felt self-conscious about my nose until when I happened to read this forum while doing research for another surgery and started to find a few things wrong/ugly about my nose that I should seek a nose job to improve (this was the biggest mistake!!!). Then I started doing research about rhinoplasty and materials used for the surgery. I didn't want any foreign objects in my nose so goretex, silicon were out. Also, rib was not the option as I thought it was so crazy to go though a major surgery like that just for the sake of vanity. I was nearly set on dermal fat graft until when I consulted Dr.Park of Samsung Aesthetic Clinic who talked me out of it, giving several drawbacks that I would have a scar on the donor site, the nose would be too soft and a lot of patients from other clinics went to him for revision after dermal fat graft rhinoplasty (???). He said he used permacol (porcine dermis), a very expensive material from the UK and after sometime, permacol would become my own tissue, so I don't have to worry about infection. I was so naive that I believed him and thought that it was a perfect material for me. Now after a lot of research, I realise that what he said was only self-statement with no evidence. Permacol is a new material that hasn't been around long enough for a proper research, especially in its use as rhinoplasty material. Since this was the only clinic that used this 'perfect' material, I had to go with them. I was a little wary as I didn't see a lot of reviews about them but then I found a good review long time ago in this forum from someone who had her nose job there so I was confident going ahead.

Here is what they gave me: a crocked, deviated bridge, asymmetric tip and nostrils, pinched tip which I hate and most seriously a breathing problem...I already had revisional surgery to remove all the grafts but not all problems were corrected and I still have to live with this meesed up nose all my life as I don't want to have any graft in my nose anymore and it's impossible to correct nose problems without using grafts. Please think very carefully before going for a nose job because once done there is no going back!

During the process of consultation at Samsung Aesthetic Clinic, I saw so many red flags but I was so excited that I tried to ignore all and even made excuses for them:

- The doctor never replied emails, only clinic managers did. I don't like all the clinics that are run in this way because there are a lot of things that only the doctors can answer you correctly.

- The doctor (Dr.Park) always rushed and never spent enough time for consultation. During the very short consultations, he didn't ask me what I wanted but tried to sell hard, talking about his technique and skill. Please stay away from any surgeons who rush in consultation because chances are they would also rush in your surgery and mess up your face.

- Clinic manager also tried to sell hard, talking about how good their clinic is and how good the doctor is ect. They pointed out many things that need to be improved, making me feel as if I had a very ugly nose and they would made it beautiful. The lesson is: don't listen to others, only do surgery if it concerns you, not because others tell you that it's ugly.

- The clinic has only one doctor who meets with patients and gives consultation but many doctors at the back, kind of assistant doctors who never have face-to-face consultation with the patients. Think about this, they don't need 5 doctors to do a nose job together. If they have many doctors like that, it's likely that the doctor you consult is the lead doctor (who has many good credentials to show off) and the doctors at the back are actually those who performed your surgery, which is my case that I only found out later. It's so scary that you don't even know who they are and if they are qualified enough. You do a lot of research about the doctor who doesn't actually perform the surgery.

- After the surgery, there is NO WAY for me to see or talk to the doctor. If I called or emailed, I could only get in touch with clinic manager who was not able to asnwer the technical questions. I begged to speak to the doctor for 2 mins on the phone at his convenient time (even if I had to wake up at night to call him due to time zone difference) because I needed to ask him a few things regarding my nose but they said he didn't have time, he was doing surgeries all day. I said if so, I called after he finished all the surgeries but they still said that he's busy I couldn't talk to him...Well, but if you are a new patient, he always find time to meet you even if he is in operation room doing surgery.

- One more thing I only found out after my surgery is that one of the nurses there whose nose is amazingly natural had it done at another clinic! So if you come to a clinic and see some nurses with beautiful noses, don't assume that they got them done at the same clinic, they may have them done somewhere else. And if so, it's really a big red flag because even their staff don't trust their doctor.

I've found out that many clinics in Korea are just like factories that they don't treat you like human being. After they take money and do the job, they are done and if there is any problem after that, it's your responsibility!

Sorry for a long post but I hope those who are still on the fence whether to have a nose job or not, like I was before, think twice before going for this type of surgery. This is not a piece of cake. There are many things that can go wrong and that would make a serious impact on your life that you can never imagine. My life is ruined forever because of the nose job!

Dr. Yun is specialized in nose too. One example. The friend I mentioned has another friend visiting Dr. Yun on Dec 14th for her nose revision. Ironically, she was seeing Dr. Yun like 4-5 years ago for her nose job. She wanted tall and long nose in spite of the fact that she has short and low nose. Dr. Yun recommended a nose job with average size so that it could fit in her face better. He also warned her that ignoring all her face feature will inevitably result in painful revision. She did not like it and actually got her nose done with another surgeon in Korea who agreed to do everything she wanted.

Unforturnately, what Dr. Yun predicted actually happened. The silicon moved and started pointing out at the end. People who is planning on doing any kind of revision should be able to image what a nightmare it is. She went back to Korea last year for a nose revision and visited many large clinics but no one wanted to touch her case. The reason is the silicon has adhered to other tissues which makes the whole surgery risky. She was desperate and contacted Dr. Yun again. They scheduled the face-face consultation for Dec 14th. She is now in Korea. I will see her after she comes back.

I trust Dr. Yun. I believe everything will turn out to be fine. I actually asked him if I can get my nose done when I was in Korea. He said "No". He said if he did the nose for me, he would need to change the shape of my face, after that, he would have to do my chin to make everything look natural and make sense.

I went to Seoul on Dec 4th and left on Dec 11th. What I got is double eyelids.

Clinics:
Foreigners who don't understand Korean have very limited information available for them. I don't understand Korean and before I went to Korea, I read every single threads here and came up with 3 clinics I wanted to visit: Teuimp, Regen and Banobagi. My Korean friend highly recommended YNY Beauty. I did not put it onto my list because its website is not very informative and there are not lots of fancy before and after pictures.

I visited Teuimp on Dec 6th. Dr. Kwon recommended three procedures for my eyes: suture double eyelids, eyelid muscle elevation and inner corner cut. I did question about his approach as the distance between my eyes are close, does the inner corner cut make it even closer? and is the double eyelids gonna resolve along with the time if we take suture method. Dr. Kwon said he can do incisional method or whatever I want.

I visited Regen the same day. It is a very busy clinic. We waited like 50 minutes even with a pre-scheduled appointment. Dr. Kim recommened partial incisional double eyelids, inner corner cut and outter corner cut. I still have questions about the inner corner cut and hesitate about outter corner cut because of so many bad feedback about this approach.

I went to Banobagi in the afternoon. Dr. Park recommended only one prodcedure: double embedded (double suture) eyelids. He did not think my condition is suitable for either inner corner cut or out corner cut. I actually buy in what he said even though he is a little arrogant. The consultant helped me book the next day surgery and pushed me to put deposit to secure the surgery time.

I acutally ended up with YNY Beauty even though I have paid the deposit to Banobagi. Long story short. I had a consultation with Dr. Yun, the owner of the clinic. My Korean friend took me there and she told me that she had 5 friends having surgeries there and they are all happy with the result. Also, personally, I feel that Dr. Yun is a very experienced and honest person. He did not recommend any cut because those will lead to other surgeries in order to keep my face proportional. He said less is more, just do what is really necessary. He graduated from the the most prestigious university for plastic surgery in Korea and now is teaching this major in a university. He offered me unbelievably good price because my friend took me there. I had my surgery done 1 hour after the consultation. and I am very happy with the result.

YNY Beauty is not as popular as other clinics and not being discussed a lot by foreigners because they are being modest (which is not necessarily a good strategy) not spending money on commercials or decoration of their clinics which eventually become part of patients' payments anyway. However, this strategy indeed lowers the cost so we can benefit from it. Also, do not rely on those before/after pictures. You can never be the same as those girls in pics because we have different faces. The same procedure may result in totally different look. Dr. Yun is not anxious for more patients as he has enough business for his small scale clinic. Also because of this, he can be honest to you and not desperately convince you to do more precedures than what you really need.

Translator:
I did hired Zoe as the translator. I heard her name from this website and booked her time like one month in advance. She went to those 3 clinics with me and translated for me. She did not go to YNY with me because it was really last minute decision and my friend was with me for the surgery on the same day. My two cents is if you don't speak the language and don't have Korean friend, you do need a translator as most of the docture speaking only broken english.

Now it is the 10th day post the surgery. I wear makeup, go outside without sun glasses and meet up with friends. Everyone says that I look super natural. Dr. Yun said that I will look even better the end of the first month, can't wait. I can't swim though for another 2 weeks just to give a little more time for my eyes to recover.

I think there are a few clinics where they cater mostly to international patients so their prices are steeper. I know for sure that my mom's cousin got a bridge augmentation. I'm not too sure if she got anything else. Her first nose job, she caught a bad infection and the nose looked curvy. She just recently got a revision but I'm not sure how that turned out. I believe the material used was silicon. I will find out where she got it done + price when I see her in Korea When my dad called some of the clinics, the prices are based on the type of procedure. For example, if you just want a bridge augmentation using silicon, it starts off at $2-$3k USD. But if you want a bridge augmentation + tiplasty, the prices start to increase, obviously because you're getting more done. Hence the range that the clinics quoted my parents are from $2-$4K USD. At my consult with Eric Choe in NYC, he wanted to do 4 things which I can't really remember but I know it was a bridge augmentation using silicon, tiplasty where he will harvest cartilage from my ear, nasal reduction, and something else. The total price he quoted me was $4.8K. The procedure would be done in his office using local anesthesia. I think Banobagi quoted my dad a little less than $3k USD for bridge augmentation using silicon, and VIP a little less than $2.8K USD for the same procedure but with rib cartilage. They quoted my dad in won's and USD is stronger than won.

In terms of communication, I am bringing my mom. My Korean is good enough for everyday conversation but definitely not good enough for anything more sophisticated than that. My mom is somewhat pushy and fiesty, the typical Korean woman, so I am hoping that my expectations are communicated via my mom I already had a consult in NYC so I pretty much know exactly what I want. Now it's just a matter of finding a skilled and experienced surgeon.

Thanks for the feedback on your swelling experience! I had a feeling 2 weeks was too short of a time for the swelling to go down. From what the surgeons in Korea are telling my parents, unless they perform an osteotomy (cutting or breaking bone), the recover isn't too bad.

Really? VIP quoted less than $2.8K USD? I know that some of members in this forum had to pay $8 -9K USD for nose job in VIP!

BTW I plan to get my nose job done in Feb next year in Korea, but maybe not...not really sure.. I'M not korean, so kind scary! cause I don't speak the language!

I would really think it over but maybe it would work out fine for you as many have. I might have choose a wrong doctor who has no eye for beauty. But do your research and ask yourself if all this is worth it. For me, never again! I was already a pretty and cute girl, shouldn't take a chance even thou I really wanted a higher nose. Maybe my wrong is just a bad ps .... Another doctor may do it beautifully. But be aware... The nose will look huge and the tip is hard as rock! No piggy nose for me!

I hope you are still on the site since your post was a while ago... I am super serious about removing my rib graft from bridge and tip... Going back to what God has made me! What implant did u remove? I m seeking for someone whoever had rib graft removed and did the nose go back to some what the same. I fear since I know the ps had to break my nose bone and narrow it and probably shave my nose bone to fit the stupid big bridge and tip. Any help from anyone is greatly appreciate it. I spoke to my ps , he said he can bring me back to my birth nose but with some techniques?? I also went to 2 other ps .... One said yes, can be done but have to wait 9 months , another said keep the tip and just remove the bridge (way too high). I literally am in panic mode and had to be on medication.... This is just too much. No on ever warns about the psychological impact if the rhinoplasty doesnt turn out to be anything they want. I got this big tip and freakish high bridge... That does not match my face! Forget about money wasted but the psychological impact is devastating. I ask people to rethink... Especially on rib.... This is so much mire invasive than other implants.

got a haircut XD. you can see that there is still some swelling left. the implant looks straight if you cover up the bottom part of my nose. but the bottom part is more swollen on my right side which makes it look a bit uneven.

imo, my nostrils are a tiny bit too wide (by a few mm) but its okay, cos alarplasty is an irreversible procedure. i think the tip will be a good size once the tip deswells. my left side of my tip is smaller than my right side. but once both sides are that size, it'll look good

do you guys think i have granny lips from the paranasals? D:

well now is slow season so clinic is not that busy, plus i show up very early in the morning like 8:30 i already there, while in korea i saw cinderella ad a lots like every subway have there ad, the pix of the girl they have on their ad look really good but i dont really like to go to big clinic bcuz most of big clinic dont have good after care, like when i went to Grand i dont really like their service, those girl at the front desk is not really friendly, when we step in they dont even greeting us, that the first thing turn me off about Grand

I think it all varies to each individuals. How your body reacts to your new nose and the material. There are people who chose goretex to silicone. But there are also pros and cons to each material. It is best to consult a doctor regarding the materials you are using for your nose.

Regarding revision, there are people who settle down because they are already happy with their 1st nose job while others isnt happy with it or would like to enchance it even more. And the aftercare is very important to have a smooth recovery for your nose.
