  1. Hi girl, thank you I am! I saw your review too and am glad that I've chosen Ruby :P however, I do wish that I asked for a slightlyyy higher crease and gotten incisional instead! Cuz I'm always rubbing my eyes whilst I'm asleep and was so worried every morning that the threads will be undone. my swelling have all subsided and my crease is pretty low  hope you are recovering well too! *hugs

  2. I dunno the rest but I've attached the profile of Dr Hu from Ruby. have requested this from Ruby myself before I decided to book a consultation with them. hope this helps

  3. Thank you, I'm recovering really well and loving my eyes now! They do other surgeries like rhino, face contouring, fat graft and breast augmention as well. When I was at the clinic, it wasn't crowded, the other patients there were all locals. it's a good thing because they can give you all the attention you need haha! there are two booklets in the waiting area showing B&As of different surgeries, I noted that there are much more pictures for the eyes and nose. can't comment on rhino as I've never researched on it before, but I would say their style is more to natural change. I requested for big eyes- emphasised that I wanted my epi corners to be cut as much as possible and wanted eyes to look much more awake. so Dr Hu gave me something more dramatic compared to the pictures provided at the reception area.

  4. So i've removed my stitches, the removal was VERY painful especially on the epi area! the pain is similar to facial extractions, but on the eye area. Daisy was very nice to try to distract me by talking to me and patting my hands when I was squirming in pain.

Once they were removed, Dr Hu came into the room to check on my eyes and answered some recovery questions that I asked-

    • eye make up can be applied on the following day
    • my face can be cleansed as per normal but I've to be very gentle around the eyes and to make sure to pat them dry
    • facials can also be done but the beautician will need to avoid/be very gentle around the eye area (as my skin is very oily and I couldn't cleanse the area using facial cleanser for the past week, many oil seeds have formed)

My eyes have been recovering really well, considering I have barely any swelling left! initially I was worried about going back to the office but now it looks just like I have double eyelid tapes on  for me, my swelling went down from Day 4 onwards. I was given the de-swelling laser treatment anyway, and went to take some photos for the clinic's record. note that the B&A photos will not be shown to anyone else, it's solely for Ruby's record only.

I am happy with the results of my eyes, they're both wider and bigger. ptosis correction also made them look more awake. I would have liked them even more if more epi was cut, but I understand that if Dr Hu cut anymore of them, my eyes will appear too close together. the size of my crease is currently of medium thickness, I can't wait for them to continue to de-swell until they are of medium-low height! as for the epi scars, I do have some redness on both sides and am applying Dermatix Ultra to prevent scarring.

So.. will I recommend Ruby for eyes? YES. the change for me is obvious yet it still looks natural. I'm a very satisfied patient and can't wait to see the final results after 6 months!

If you end up scheduling a consultation with them for eyes, let Daisy know that you are referred to by me and she might be able to offer you the same price i paid  no guarantees but worth a try. please note that i do not get any benefits of any form by writing this entire post (and my previous ones).

I hope my review is useful, good luck girls!!

  5. Hi! my consultation with Dr Kye went well, he's a very experienced doctor with over 25 years of experience, confident of his work albeit stubborn (didn't like it when i insisted on getting ptosis done). I was also advised by my consultant Grace, that Dr Kye have only been doing eye-related PS and no longer do other surgeries like rhinoplasty. in other words, he specialises ONLY in eyes now.

I've actually wrote a review of GNG's Dr Kye in a thread i created, if you want to know more you can scroll to the GNG part.

In summary if i had set aside (way more) budget to get Endotine forehead lifting done i might have chosen Dr Kye over Dr Hu from Ruby. he was against me getting ptosis correction done as according to him I don't need it, and my eyelids will become hooded if i insisted on doing it.

    Hope this helps

  6. yeah I read in the GNG thread that the price quoted was lower (can't remember the exact amount but it was around 1.5mil iirc) but I was given 1.8mil.

Also, i just checked some notes i've written down and the ptosis correction procedure at GNG is KRW 700,000 not KRW 500,000 as posted by myself in the above. not sure how to edit the original post, will try doing so once i have access to a PC.

  7. I know! I was so disappointed as I really wanted to go to JYP initially. tried calling but the number stated in the site is invalid (some Korean business picked up the call), no replies via kakao nor email either. Jefferson then very kindly helped me check and found out from some Korean government site that they have closed the clinic on 31 Mar 2017. I've attached a screenshot on this.

  8. Having decided on Dr Hu from Ruby, I went back to the clinic to place a deposit of 50%. the remaining is to be paid on the day of the surgery (which is the next day for me). Ruby closes at 8.00PM on Thursdays so I made it back on time. Daisy went through the pre-surgery instructions when i was back there- I am required to fast for 8 hours before the surgery commence, ALL nail polishes are to be removed (including those on the feet), etc.

    Surgery at Ruby
I made the remaining payment before I was led to the 10th floor for my surgery. changed to the surgery gown and washed my face using the cleanser provided by the clinic. Had a final consultation with Dr Hu, deciding on the width of the crease etc. I chose a low-medium one. I don't remember being injected with LA on my eye area as per what I've read online, only on my forearm. however I was awake throughout the surgery and could pretty much see everything!! pretty scary. and yes it still hurts a little here and there even after the effects of the LA took over.

after the surgery, my eyes were so swollen that I could barely open them. I had to rest in their recovery room for about an hour before I feel comfortable enough to walk about. Daisy brought me down to the pharmacy to get the necessary medications- there were 3 pills to take after every meal. one's anti-biotics, one's painkiller and I forgot what the remaining one was for. i liked that they were packed packet by packet, one packet of 3 pills after every meal  I got 2 packets of pumpkin juice to help with the de-swelling too, although I was advised that it wasn't necessary as eye surgeries are minor. total costs of the medication and pumpkin juice was about KRW 38,000. Ruby also gave me an ice/warm pack to help with the de-swelling.

I came back the next day for the cleaning of the stitches. will be going back Ruby coming Monday to remove my stitches and for a laser de-swelling treatment! Will update accordingly.

Here are some tips that I think would be helpful:
    • wear lose clothing or a zipper dress on the day of the surgery. you'll feel grouchy and very uncomfortable immediately after the surgery, and you will want something that is easy to wear back on! plus when you're wearing the clothing, you will want to ensure that they don't hit or touch your eye area.
    • get sunglasses. people will stare (and whisper among their friends). initially i thought i wouldn't be bothered by this but I was. there were also not much people walking around Seoul during their recovery period. only saw like 4 people so far?
    • as you cannot let water touch your eyes, wash your hair before the surgery. get dry shampoo, go to hair salons to have a thorough hair wash. most salons charge about KRW 22,000 for a hair wash. I went to this salon called DJ Hair Salon located near Ewah's University station, they charge only KRW 10,000
    • bring lots of q-tips and cotton pads!

    I hope my review helps!

  9. I just did my eyes last week and thought I should share my experience here to give back to the community. I am writing this post out of goodwill and am definitely NOT a promoter. If you actually check past postings by myself, you'll know. I've been complementating to do my eyes for years and finally got down to doing them.

Unfortunately I'm not comfortable with sharing my pictures on the internet so I won't be providing any. if there's anything else I can help with that's not mentioned in this post, you're welcome to drop me a PM!

I'm born with natual double eyelids but they were tapered inner eyelids. I also have a mongolian fold and a very slight ptosis. I had to use eyelid tapes whenever I put on eye make-up otherwise the eyeliner wouldn't show. on some days, my lids are barely visible, making me look like i have single eyelids which isn't aesthetically pleasing to me. tapered lids also made wearing falsies a challenge as whenever I blink, my eyelids will push against the falsies, loosening the glue on them.

I've initially shortlisted quite a number of clinics including JYP PS but unfortunately they have closed their clinic for good. I crossed out the rest as their prices are exorbitant- I will not pay more than KRW 4,500,000 for my eyes, especially when local Koreans are paying (on average) about half of what we foreigners are paying. Yes I understand that clinics have to cover the costs of hiring a translator and marketing to a foreign market but to mark up prices by 100% is well.. ridiculous. if the clinic you're going to doesn't have an in-house translator I would recommend Jefferson (Kakao ID: jefferson1115). i might be wrong but she used to be with Girin PS and have since moved on to be a freelancer. she's extremely helpful and charges only KRW 150,000 for two days! on top of that from what I understand is that she doesn't take any commission from clinics as well. I would have engaged her services if JYP was still around.

Ok so i ended up shortlisting and scheduled a consultation with Ruby, GNG and Opera on the same day i touched down in Seoul. I made the mistake of packing the appointments too close to one another, so I didn't had time to even go to Opera! I would encourage to set aside about 3 hours for consultation and travelling time between clinics. I didn't engage a translator as all 3 clinics I've shortlisted already have in-house translators.

Here are the quotes given to me prior to booking a consultation. Please note that quotes are only an estimation, prices are finalised only after the consultation with the doctor:

    Ruby
KRW 2,000,000 for incisional double eyelid surgery
    KRW 500,000 for ptosis correction
    KRW 800,000 for epicanthoplasty
    KRW 800,000 for lateral canthoplasty

    GNG
KRW 3,000,000 for incisional double eyelid surgery with ptosis correction
KRW 2,500,000 for non-incisional double eyelid surgery with ptosis correction
    KRW 300,000 for epicanthoplasty
    KRW 300,000 for lateral canthoplasty

    Opera
KRW 2,000,000 for incisional double eyelid surgery with ptosis correction
KRW 1,000,000 for epicanthoplasty and lateral canthoplasty
(they were having some event which explains the cheap prices quoted)

Here's my review on Ruby and GNG.

    Ruby Plastic Surgery (my choice)
My first consultation was with Ruby. I first came across them about 3 years ago on some Korean site along with other PS clinics when I was searching for clinics popular among the locals for eye surgeries. and then recently, Ruby (and JYP) was mentioned in this thread again: #

The clinic was located in Rex Building, just right outside of Sinsa Station. Really convenient. the other occupants of Rex Building are all PS clinics as well, saw girls with work done on various/every part of their face when we were on the lift up to Ruby. The interior of Ruby is well decorated, clean and polished. They have 2 floors, the first one was for consultation and the second for surgeries and recovery rooms. Daisy, their in-house translator have been in touch with me and she was there with me throughout the consultations with both the consultant and the doctor.

My doctor's Dr Hu Jung Woo, I chose him as he's Ruby eye specialist. he wrote an aesthetic surgery journal for eyes before, not sure about the details but I have attached a picture from a poster in the clinic (will take a better shot when I'm back to remove the stitches).

After examining and poking my eyes, the first thing Dr Hu recommended was epicanthoplasty. The incisional method for double eyelids isn't necessary and wasn't recommended by Dr Hu, reason being my eyelids do not have that much fats and I already have double eyelids to begin with. he also mentioned that it's not only hard to do a revision should I choose the incisional method as there will be scaring, there is a 2% chance of the eyelids unfolding. this is something new as I've always thought that there is NO chance of eyelids unfolding if they were done via the incisional method. Daisy vouched for this as her cousin did incisional and her eyelids unfolded.

Dr Hu recommended me to do a type of non incisional method called Natural Adhesion instead. chances of the eyelids unfolding is 3%, just 1% higher than the incisional method. it also has a much lower chance of unfolding compared to the traditional non incisional method (forgot the actual %). he said ptosis isn't necessary but I can have it if I want, and he did not want to do lateral hoz for me as it won't make a difference for my case due to the bone structure of my eyes. As I have a relatively big zygoma, he recommended me to do fat grafting to that area so that the change will be more dramatic/complement my eyes more. I liked Dr Hu as he was honest and didn't push me into doing other parts of my face! He's also very confident in his work which is a major plus point, and patiently explained and drew on a piece of paper about the procedures I'm looking at. he can speak and understand English btw. I realised this when I went back to do some hygiene cleaning of the stitches, Daisy wasn't around so he spoke to me directly in English. I would think Daisy is there to ensure that communication between us is clear, and to ensure that my expectations can be met, and probably because Dr Hu is more comfortable coversing in Korean!

Ruby offered me a very reasonable pricing, and they were so kind to re-arrange their schedule to accommodate me. I was in Korea for a limited time so they immediately scheduled my surgery the next day. the price includes a de-swelling treatment and stitches clean up, but excludes medication ranging from KRW 30,000 - 50,000. Please contact Ruby directly if you would like to know the exact price I paid. it is VERY reasonable and includes a free revision within a year.

    GNG Hospital
My second consultation was with GNG, as mentioned earlier I didn't have time to go to Opera after here  the nearest train station was Bongeunsa, from there it's about a 15 mins walk. I would have taken a cab to GNG directly if I knew the roads wasn't as jammed as that in Gangnam-Sinsa area! I stayed in Gangnam area as my first appointment was supposed to be with Opera and I had high expectations for them. unfortunately despite my appointment being confirmed, they actually gave the slot to someone else. back to GNG- i was half an hour late for my consultation but Hazel, their in-house translator was still very sweet and patient with me. I was brought to another floor to take some photos before sitting for my consultation. My consultation was with Dr Min-Suk Kye, he's the eye specialist in GNG and according to the consultant, Grace, Dr Kye have only been doing eye-related PS for the past few years and no longer do rhinoplasty.

Dr Kye also recommended epicanthoplasty and natural adhesion to create a parrallel eyelid for me. however, he is against me doing ptosis as he said the procedure isn't suitable for me. he would recommend doing Endotine forehead lifting if I want to make my eyes look more awake instead. according to Dr Kye, if I were to insist on doing ptosis correction, my eyelids will end up looking hooded, which isn't aesthetically pleasing and isn't my ideal eyes!! He looked annoyed when I kept asking about getting ptosis done anyway and whether there's another way around so that I wouldn't get hooded lids. similar to Dr Hu, he said that lateral hoz doesn't suit me due to the bone structure of my eyes.

Like Dr Hu, he is also very confident of his work and have many years of experience. it was a difficult choice between Ruby and GNG because I really like both doctors. both doctors were not only very knowledgeable, they were really really confident in what results they can produce.

After the consultation, i went to the reception area to make my choice. It was a tough one lol, I took nearly an hour to decide. I ended up choosing Dr Hu from Ruby as I really wanted to get ptosis correction. PERHAPS if i have more budget for the Endotine, I would have went with Dr Kye from GNG instead.

Here's the prices given to me after the consultation (inclusive of tax, they did not allow any negotiation of their prices):

KRW 1,800,000 for non-incisional double eyelid surgery (natural adhesion method)
    KRW 500,000 for ptosis correction
KRW 5,000,000 for Endotine Forehead Lifting (wow)
    KRW 300,000 for epicanthoplasty
    KRW 300,000 for lateral canthoplasty

Other than Endotine which i've never researched on before, the prices are extremely affordable considering other huge hospitals charge like 5 million won for the exact same procedures. coupled with Dr Kye's experience, I would have definitely went with GNG if I had more budget and wasn't so insistent on getting ptosis correction.

  10. Hi! I had 8 units of Dysport for my gummy smile, lasted about 5 months for me.

You don't need jaw surgery to solve your problem, one of the causes of a gummy smile is a hyperactive upper lip muscle which can be solved easily with botox.

If you're looking into a permanent solution, there's a surgery that cuts the muscle to reduce movement =) I'm planning to get this surgery after my braces haha, need to correct my overbite first!

  11. I have enquired about doing facial bone contouring surgeries with lifting procedures before, and from what I know, it is always best to do the lift at least 6 months after the contouring surgeries. Your face would be sooo swollen after the surgery and you wouldn't want to do a lift when it is like that, right?

    Hope that helps!

  12. Hey, I don't think you should get PS done if you've not saved enough money for it. PS has risks and complications, if they do arise after PS, how are you gonna pay for them? Just something to think about =)

  13. Thank you very much for your in-depth review!!

Btw, I don't think it's fair to blantly accuse others of promoting a certain clinic. With people like you stuffing words into others mouth, I'm not surprised if the number of reviews in general will gradually lessen. Why risk getting attacked online and spend the time typing it all out when all you wanted was to share your experience?

Even IF Doloreslolita and some reviewers ARE promoting them for personal gains, so what? Anyone considering ps should always do enough research themselves to know which clinics are good or bad and not decide based on one or two reviews. And of course practice some basic common sense. Just because someone else says a certain clinic is good, it doesn't mean it IS good or (s)he's a promoter.

Ultimately, it's your own face and whatever the decision, it should be what you think it's the best for yourself- what works for another may not work for you.

    Cheers.

Once again, thank you for your review! As well as to the many others who have reviewed and shared your experiences, thank you for doing so even when there isnt a need to, they are much appreciated
