  1. Hello! Just want to share my experience on genioplasty surgery experience at The Face Dental.

I have previous done a chin implant (8mm) at another clinic in Seoul. I have received feedbacks from my close friends that my side profile looks way too protruded and it looks like a moon. Hence I decided to go remove my chin implant and to do genioplasty (5mm)

    The clinics I have consulted

I did not consult any other clinic other than TFD for the genioplasty. In fact, I actually consulted them 1 month after my chin implant because I had a few friends who have done double jaw, Vline with the clinic and I have heard good reviews (affordable price + good result). For TFD, they only have 1 doctor, Dr. Lee. They have another doctor that is in charge of teeth and another anaesthelogist (very impt! A clinic should have an anaesthelogist)

    My consultation at TFD

I have arranged an appointment and surgery with TFD 2 months before I reach Korea. As genioplasty is a very simple surgery, I wasn’t so worried. Hence, I was able to get my chin done immediately after I reach Korea. During the consultation, Dr. Lee Joon Kyu was very honest in his advice. I am sure we have encountered other clinics which the consultant/doctor recommend many not-needed surgeries. But Dr. Lee is different. I told him I want to change my zygoma, jaw and I asked for his advice. He told me I didn’t really need zygoma as it would make my face more feminine and the side-effects of jaw implant. At this point, I knew that I have chosen the correct doctor and the correct clinic. I always believe that a good doctor is someone who only recommend procedures that truly benefits the patients.

    Surgery

On morning of the surgery day, I met up with Dr. Lee/Consultant again and they briefed me about the after-care. My surgery lasted about an hr only as it was just genioplasty.

    After Surgery

Ok I felt genioplasty is way better compared to my rhinoplasty+chin implant surgery (which lasted 5hrs). I did not feel any discomfort AT ALL after waking up from General Anaesthesia. I told the nurse that I could discharge and I met up with the doctor one more time before I discharged. I actually discharged 4hrs after my surgery and walked back to my residence.

I was given icepack, medication, nutritional drink before I discharge. In addition, I came back to the clinic a few more times for their deswelling treatment.

    Swelling?

The first 48 hrs of swelling was horrible and I looked totally like a pumpkin. I was so worried of the result until the deswelling reduced 1.5weeks later. As the sitches is dissolvable, I could fly back 7 days right after my surgery.

Overall, after care provided way exceed my expectation. The nurses were kind and helpful. I am so glad to have known of this clinic and Dr. Lee.

Here’s my before and after. As you see, before my chin is rather protruded with the chin implant. Right now, my chin looks way more natural with the genioplasty

    Conclusion:

    1. Overall very good experience. Dr Lee is amazing and he does not overcharge.

    2. Do not get a chin implant ever. I didn’t listen to my friends before this and hence had to do another surgery. But somehow I am glad that I have done my chin is TFD because the result is so natural.

  2. Introduction

Hello! Just want to share my experience on my rhino surgery experience! So I always been research for the past few years to get my nose done. Through this forum, I managed to filter out the good clinics to consult. As I stayed in Korea for more than 6 months, I had the privilege to take my time to consult and book many consultations with many doctors.

    Background of my previous nose

Short and flat nose, No bridge, wide nasal bone, columella is shorter than alar, wide alar, and upturned nose. In addition, my nose were tilted to right. I think it’s probably one of the more complicated nose that doctor can operate on (besides revision). Here's my nose last time

    The clinics I have consulted

I have consulted a total of 7 doctors, from 5 different clinic namely: Trend, April31 (2 diff doctors), Top Class, 101, and finally GNG.

Because of the high price (was quoted nearly 10mil from trend and april31), I decided to not go with Trend and April31. Top class quote me at a cheap price and I placed my deposit with them until about 2 weeks before my scheduled surgery with top class. However, as the date approach, I decided to do even more detailed research.

In this forum, I have seen many many threads about GNG hospital and spoke to some of the people who have done their nose there. I booked my consultation after speaking to some of them here. In addition, I also realized that GNG is very well-known among the Koreans! During my visit at GNG hospital I have seen many korean, including korean guys wearing their army uniform.

    My consultation at GNG

At GNG, I have consulted both Dr.Son and Dr.Seong. After the consultation, I immediately made up my mind to place my deposit with GNG and withdraw my deposit with top class. Why so? One of the main reason is that GNG produces a natural nose (which I prefer) and top class produce a rather dramatic nose. Secondly, GNG provides extensive aftercare (one night stay at the hospital after surgery) while top class do not provide any hospitalization.

I believe both of the doctor (Dr.Son and Dr.Seong) are extremely skilled and honestly I had a really tough time decided between which doctor. In fact, I didn’t decide on the doctor until about 3 days before the scheduled date. In the end, I chose to do my nose with Dr.Seong. Because I have seen his result of male rhinoplasty and he is the owner of the hospital.

So these are the following sub-procedures that were performed on me: Tip lengthening and bridge augmentation, T-osteotomy, alarplasty. Materials used were silicon for bridge and ear cartilage/septal cartilage for tip. In addition, I also did chin augmentation due to my recessed chin. My doctor was Dr.Choi.

    Surgery Day
On morning of the surgery day, I was picked up by a taxi from GNG. I had to see the doctor for one final time (where they will draw all their markings). After making payment and all, I was guided by Hazel (the English translator of GNG and I went inside a room where they gave some air shower and after that I was told to lie down. I wasn’t feeling very nervous because I was very sleepy on the day of the surgery. The anaesthesiologist asked me to breath in some gas. After I took a deep breath, I was asleep.

    After Surgery

After the surgery, I was provided with some oxygen and LED treatment that helps to prevent swelling. Then I was guided to my ward, where both Dr.Seong and Dr.Seong actually took the time out and visit me personally after surgery! They also shared with me what are the things they have done during the surgery and told me the surgery went well.

    After-Care

On the first night I felt pretty terrible as I didn’t eat or drink for nearly 18hrs. My throat was very painful. I was provided by the nurse with ice pack, vitamin drinks and pumpkin soup. During the morning of the surgery I had another post-operative and LED treatment. The nurses are very nice and helpful.

    Day of discharge

So on the day where I left the hospital, I was provided with hair-washing service and also car to send me back to my place. I was given many stuff by the hospital to bring home: Medication, Ice pack/Warm pack, Vitamin C, Pumpkin Juice Extract.

    After Care

7 days later, I went back to remove my cast and everything from my nose. I was given oxygen and LED treatment to help deswelling again. In addition, I was given facial treatment by the staff.

Overall, after care provided way exceed my expectation. The nurses were kind and helpful, providing me pumpkin soup whenever I felt hungry after surgery. In addition, I was told to return back to the hospital every 3 days to help with deswelling. I was given car service, hair washing, facial and other post-operative treatment after my surgery

In addition, both translator, Hazel and Won were extremely nice and helpful to me during this period. During the period after my surgery, they constantly visited me in my ward and provide me with the utmost care that I needed. Even after I discharged, they constantly help to answer some of my questions via Kakaotalk very quickly.

For those who are interested to see my before/after nose, feel free to message me. Currently I am 18 days post-op. Result wise, I am very happy with my profile and 45 degree angle. My nose is still kinda swollen front view which I believe will improve over time. But one thing that I'm very happy about is that Dr.Seong managed to make my nose straight(as my previous nose were tilted to the left)! In addition, I also love my chin and it turns out very natural. My profile view have improved very very significantly.

Many people have helped me through this experience in the past, and I personally wants to give back to this community by helping others now that I have done my surgery. ^^

  3. Yeap they are! I remembered seeing at one of the website (not their main website)

  4. I am also considering between chin implant and sliding genioplasty. Not particularly sure if revision surgery is required for chin implant :/
