  1. Thank you, it's really good to hear that despite a few side effects, you're overall happy with the results and find the risk was personally worth it. That's kind of where it's coming down to for me, I'm obviously still going to do my due diligence with consultations: background checking clinics, doctors, etc. but there's still a certain amount of significant risk that I'm willing to accept.

This isn't something trivial that I'm doing on a whim, I've wanted this surgery since I was around 15 or so (I'm in my mid-twenties now) and it hasn't wavered despite all the growth I've attained in terms of self esteem and confidence.

I will definitely aim for a conservative approach, maybe even just the mandible reduction (no vline) and definitely not doing cheekbones now at all.

With the numbness, does it get in the way during your day to day life (like eating or talking)? Also, how numb is it? Is it like 0 sensation in the lower lip and chin (like a local anesthetic almost or a numbing cream) or is it more like slightly dulled ability to feel in that area?

    Thank you!

  2. Thanks, have you had surgery in Korea before? I also noticed you mentioned in another thread about having a recommendation for a hostel in Gangnam area, could you dm me which one?

  3. That's awesome to hear. Are you liking your results visually so far? Do you have all sensation back in your face?

I'm planning to go in late March, early April for consultations and surgeries. I'm not comfortable booking with any particular clinic until I've consulted with a few in person before making my decision. This means I can't lock down a surgery date before going on my trip. You basically solved this by doing two separate trips - one for consultations and another one a few months later for the actual surgery but I don't think I can do that. Did you deliberately plan that due to limited availability of surgery dates? Basically, I'm wondering if I'll be able to book my surgeries shortly after the consultations in one trip or if the best surgeons are booked months in advance.

  4. Thanks for sharing your story and recovery process with us! Your day 11 pics look great, what a dramatic difference already!

    - Did you just get fat grafting on your nose? Or did you do a revision rhino?
    - If you did do rhino and FC at the same time, how did you find breathing the first 2 days post-op?
    - Who was your surgeon?

I'm going to add Girin to my consultation list

  5. Yeah I'm leaning against zygoma now - I just wanted to fix asymmetry and reduce one cheekbone to be the same size as the other. I do have actually really prominent cheekbones (I'm ethnically 100% Korean so we're talking big lol, think of those before pics of Korean patients that a lot of these clinics use). I've seen some pics from people here who got cheekbones reduced where they already have really small cheekbones to start with. But it sounds like the risk might not be worth it after all.

I really do want to get at least my mandibles reduced though. They're really big and square and stand out both sideways and frontal view. I'm going to be as diligent as possible with consultations and err on the side of conservatism. Honestly, I'm willing to deal with some sagging via nonsurgical treatments afterwards because I've wanted this surgery for over 10 years now and I've already done botox multiple times to reduce the masseter muscle.

Do you think it's possible if I do all my research very carefully and pick a surgeon that is reputable with a conservative approach, that I could have a good result? I'm getting worried, especially since I am planning to go alone. There is a certain amount of risk one can't avoid, but I'm wondering if the nature of FC surgeries is just fundamentally destined for bad long-term consequences or if it's a matter of a small minority of botched jobs, with the vast majority turning out well?

  6. This thread is seriously making me reconsider cheekbone reduction. I have prominent cheekbones but one is super prominent and larger than the other. I only want that one reduced slightly to be the same size as the other, I hope this is doable. Can you guys share the clinics where you had a bad experience with? That way people will know to avoid them. Of course, only if you are comfortable doing so. Thanks for sharing your experiences

  7. I've been wanting to get facial contouring for years now, and I'm finally ready to take the plunge. My plan is to go to Korea for 3 weeks and get jaw reduction, zygoma (this one is still a maybe... my cheekbones are slightly uneven and one is larger than the other, I only want the larger cheekbone reduced to be the same size as the smaller one) and rhinoplasty.

I am concerned about getting facial contouring and rhino at the same time due to breathing concerns, but I've read several accounts now from those who have. I will listen to the advice of the doctors though and hear what they have to say about that before I decide.

I have a few clinics in mind to consult with:
    • View
    • Regen
    • UVOM
    • Opera
I'm not going to use Docfinderkorea or any of those medical tourism agencies. I can speak Korean conversationally but it's at a low level, and I'd want a translator present for the consultations (if the doctors can't speak English) to ensure I fully understand everything.

This is my plan in terms of organizing the trip by myself, in order of steps. Do you think this is the right sequence of logistics in terms of planning? Are there any other big steps I'm missing?

    Steps:

    1. Reach out to clinics and book consultations for the first day or two that I'll be in Korea.
    2. Book flight
    3. Book accommodations

I don't want to book the surgeries before I meet with at least a few clinics/doctors for consultations, which means I won't be securing an actual surgery time (with deposit) before my trip. From what I've read around here, it sounds like it's been quite easy for folks to get a surgery date for any clinic shortly after a consultation. Thoughts?

  8. Like others have said, it depends on the type of surgery. The west does not specialize in Asian ethnic surgeries like eyelid surgery and facial contouring. I would never go to a European or American doctor for these types of surgeries, you're just asking for trouble at a more expensive rate.

That being said, I wouldn't go to Korea for western rhinoplasty (shaving a hump nose) or breast augmentation because these procedures are prevalent and specialized in the west.

  9. Hello! Turns out I am going to Korea with some family members for 2 weeks later this month, followed by a week in Japan.

I don't think I will get surgery while I'm there, since it's a family trip and I don't want to be out for 2 weeks recovering from major plastic surgery. That being said, I am interested in getting the surgery later this year and wonder if I could do some consultations.

My face has large, wide cheekbones that I absolutely love. I am NOT looking to reduce cheekbones at all. The risks of the cheekbone reduction surgery is not something I'm interested in and I actually prefer having high/large cheekbones.

That being said, I am interested in square jaw reduction (not sure about vline) because I have a square shaped face which consists largely of bone. I'm less in love with the square jaw aesthetic lol. I have had botox injections in the past, and while they did make a difference, I can tell the biggest issue is the bone.

I've also had eyelid surgery done in Korea back in 2014 and notice some slight asymmetry. I may consult about a revision as well.

Do you think that surgeons would automatically suggest I do cheekbone reduction as well as square jaw for "symmetry" purposes? Would they be open to someone only doing square jaw reduction?

If the consultations go well, how far ahead in the year could I schedule the surgery for?
