  1. You just reminded me of ghost doctors! I had heard some horrible stories with those...sigh

  2. I shared my experience with my posts. I did had a fairly difficult time during the consultation phase with different clinics. I like the result I received and it matched with what I asked for.
I also realized big hospitals are so good at marketing..more like they have more funding for promoting their doctors and clinics. They lure people very easily especially for ones from overseas. I stayed with my Korean friend's family for the whole duration and they taught me a lot of FACTS that I would've never known before. I really hope yours will turn out well. There are always solutions! Don't give up.

  3. Is he the one has so many good reviews on Real Self? I remember seeing the Regen building on a rainy day a week after my vline surgery. It was a really tall building with the word REGEN written on the edge from the roof. The clinics I consulted with were all dental clinics so they were much smaller comparing to Regen. When I was there, I remember there were so many constructions outside of that building. I thought that was a really established hospital considering the reviews online and the size of the building. This is so scary. Now I came back home, thinking back, I always think so many things that could go wrong while I was there alone. I remember the Regen building was very dull in color, and I didn't like the way they wrote their name on the building. I just felt like the letters were falling to the ground from a super high building. Very weird. Anyways, I can feel ones who is having an uneasy time with their ps, as this journey can be very scary. Let's not give up and keep on fighting!

  4. Thank you for sharing girl. I really hope you are able to find a solution to manage your concerns.

I did Vline in Korea too and I consulted several oral surgeons before I got mine. I saw many doctors because I firstly want to know how the doctor is, and also to really learn and understand about vline and different techniques doctors choose. Here is some insight I learnt, which may be relevant to understand your case.

Korean doctors have different techniques and they have their favourite ways of doing the surgery and they also have a pretty set beauty standard each of their own, although lots of them may tell you they can customize to feed your desire. Some of them like to promise a lot but check the following, if any of them doesn't align with your expectation, you should avoid.
    1. find out the common outcome from looking at the before&afters of previous patients. (If they tend to have certain type of look, it is probably not because they ask for the same thing, it is more likely that the doctor just does the same thing for each person, through convincing or they just proceed anyways. )
2.ask for the techniques and whether they are logical or make sense to you. I personally found many couldn't give me a logical answer during consultations. And again, some of them just want to use whatever excuses to make you believe in his ways of doing things, so hopefully you are willing to agree with getting the same cut as previous patients.

Here are some slightly technical things I learnt.

    1. To achieve a narrower front view, getting corticotomy maybe enough as it thins out the mandibular bones, This doesn't change the side view. 45 degree view may change.
A wide face can also relate to fat and muscle composition. Through x-ray scan, doctor can measure out the thickness of your fat, muscle and mandibular bone using their software, so they know what the real cause of a wide face. This is usually done in the very first appointment.

    2. To achieve a lesser strong jawline from side view or 45 degree view, mandibular reduction maybe enough. To achieve a natural mandibular angle, some doctors may suggest leaving 2cm down from the ear. A more dramatic line is achieved with only leaving 1cm of the angle.

    3. If you like your chin, you can ask for only getting mandibular reduction, which possibly includes corticotomy, and angle reduction. Some doctor may suggest you to shave the chin just a bit (considering you have a nice chin to begin with), because your chin may appear to be larger proportionally after narrowing the mandible bones. Again, this is depending on your doctor's aesthetic. If your doctor stand cutting your chin by 100%, you know he has the set cutting technique that is probably not going to be changed just because of you. If you believe you don't need to cut your chin, you have to go to another doctor, who is open with both ideas, cutting it or not. This usually happens with doctor using the long-curve cutting technique. Their cuttings start from the back and end at the front. T-osteotomy vline cutting is the opposite.

    4. In regards to disproportional issues, some doctors may suggest more aggressive solutions than others. In this case, dig deeper and try your best to understand whether certain technique is necessary, or whether that technique can really be effective.

The medical system, perhaps plastic surgery medicine is quite different in Korea. It definitely takes time to understand what you need and decide on the one doctor who can really understand and give what you expect. Some doctors' views contradict with others, and this is an excellent way to gain some more insight to what they are doing. The most important thing is, you choose what you want, and don't accept what they want you to get.

  5. I did Vline. Before I flew to Korea, I was quite certain to do cheekbones as well, and a rhino. I was no longer active in chats after my surgery so I don't know if everyone goes through the same mental process.

Trying to find the right doctor was super draining. SUPER DRAINING. At the end of the day, it was all up to me, and my budget, so even though I got all the permission and encouragement from friends and families, I knew if I screwed up, it would be all on me. The pressure was real, no joke. I felt incredibly fortunate to have the result I wanted. I still have the mom of a Korean friend's words in my mind "the less the better, one at a time". Because of that, I didn't choose to do zygoma despite being recommended by may consultants/ some doctors. They said my zygoma may appear to be larger visually and proportionally if I only get vline. It is a gamble for sure. Nobody can guarantee if reducing my cheekbones would give me a better look than now, and I certainly wouldn't know either. Right now, I am glad I only had vline done. My cheekbones are fine. My face is not in an oval shape, and it is not as small as a celebrity's. But from what I originally had, my face is significantly smaller especially from 45degree and 90 degree angles. Am I thinking about rhino? Not very much anymore. After I got a smaller face, my nose seems to be more prominent and my eyes seem to be larger (proportionally). My vline surgery also taught me to be more cautious about any surgery. There are simply so many things that can easily go wrong. I maybe different from other girls, but after reevaluating my vline surgery again, the risk, money, efforts, results and all, I felt like my result was very fortunate to have. Ironically, it certainly didn't give me more confident on getting more surgeries, since I understand the whole thing a lot better now. After the surgery, I have higher respect towards girls who had gotten plastic surgeries, especially to ones who had changed so much to a much better version of themselves. I completely disagree with some people who criticize so hard on girls like Kylie Jenner or Korean celebs who had done ps. I also disagree with people who bash and shame on girls using their before and after pictures. They are simply jealous and don't know a thing about ps. Ps is a difficult and painful process, and not everyone can achieve ideal results and become the pretty girls perceived by others. Some of the girls just got to become looking better (me as an example). There are lots of limitations. If a girl can become so pretty via ps, it is her achievement. Some people always say, 'oh she got prettier only because of ps'. No, it is not like she bought something (or made a payment) so she got prettier. she got prettier because of many other factors (i.e. her original foundation, her budget, her decision, her maintenance etc.).

Always evaluate, evaluate, and evaluate. It tells you when to stop.
The rule of thumb for me, I get ps only to become a better version of myself. (There is always another person who is prettier.)

  6. I already felt like it was long time ago.
I miss the days so much. I just found out it is already half a year ago when I got my vline, meaning I can essentially fly back and have my pin removed.

I took some photo today after a run. My skin was a bit red due to the wind. btw, I just watched Itaewon class, and I was amused by Kwon Nara's jaw line, but I am glad I asked to have 2cm left for my mandible. I think 1cm maybe too much for my face.

  7. Hi girl. Vline works on jaw and chin. Mandible reduction and t-osteotomy is the more technical way of saying a vline surgery. I post a full list of different prices I got from different clinics in the kkt group. Please pm me if you want me to send you the list.

  8. Hi guys,
Happy Lunar New Year. I am sitting on my coach waiting for my family to finish cooking, and I thought what would've been better than writing something about last year, right?! Hehehe
I'm so sorry if I was not able to answer your messages asap or if I missed your surgery date already. I was doing rotations so I wasn't able to have much extra time. I wish everyone best of luck!
Multiple pictures were taken from today. My right side is completely back to normal and I can chew harder things with my right with zero issue. My jaw line on the right is also quite smooth and that's what I like. However, my left side is still numb, although not as numb as before. It's getting better gradually. So much patience is required! For those who are wondering, I have only gotten Vline, and nothing else. When I'm busy, I don't even check on the mirror often, let alone thinking about the Vline. I think keeping yourself busy during recovery is great. No wasting time on worrying things you can't change atm. hehehe
I will update again a bit later when it is fully recovered.
I am actually quite glad that I didn't get zygoma done. I like the cheeks and I like the size proportion with my cheeks and jaw when I smile. I do think my skin would sag or my tissue may sag if I get zygoma done.
    Anyhow, time to eat! Hehehe

    Cheers.

  9. Hello. I am not 100% sure. I think it triggers inflammation. I also had lots of tofu and I soaked rice in warm water to soften it up. Noodles are way easier to eat than rice actually. I couldn't eat porridge/congee for more than a few days because they simply don't last and I get hungry all the time.

I prefer savoury food way over sweets.

    Also,
Steam pumpkins, potatoes, carrots, veggies, and etc.
    Dumplings
    Seaweed soup
    Potato soup
    Bean sprout soup
Basically all kinds of non-spicy Korean soup
Omelet - chop everything so finely (onions)

I think I was more like lack of nutritions at the first two days rather than not eating enough calorie. My body was asking for nutritions rather than filling things, and that was probably why i was hungry all the time the first two days. I started to eat more balanced and nutritious diets and I de-swelled pretty quickly afterwards. Also my sleep got a lot better after starting to eat better.

    Good luck with your recovery!

In part 1, I forgot to mention I was required to remove nail polish for both hands and toes. I was given a neck pillow before the surgery, so I didn’t need to bring one there. I was also able to keep the pillow afterwards.

Like I said in my last post, I had terrible nausea after the surgery. It was my first surgery in my whole life. During recovery, I had a roommate who also had fc surgery, but she had 2jaw and vline by Dr. Shin. We were there for two nights together. There was a sign telling me when I can start drinking water, usually is about 4 hours post-op. The nurse came in and gave my roommate a syringe to drink her water, but I was just given a cup. Usually after vline, people can open their mouths a bit and drink water, but my front teeth were touching my lips quite closely and I was not able to get any water in my mouth. There was also a metal piece I was wearing to support my chin, and it further against me to open my mouth. Lena was there after the surgery for quite a while, asking me how I felt and all. I told her that I was not able to drink my water and she asked the nurse to give me a syringe which is primarily used for 2jaw patient. I was able to drink afterwards. Lena was a very nice persona and she spent a great amount of time sitting in the room and talking to me. Before she left, she invited the nightshift nurse to our group chat, so if I had any concern, they could translate for me to the nurse. The nurse can understand English actually but that was just more efficient and helped me to get what I needed precisely. I really liked this. It was like this for the second day and night too. The nurse from the first night was more caring than the daytime and 2nd nightshift nurse though. They had a TV for each patient, but I was honestly too tired to watch. I was focusing on drinking more water and sleeping.

I forgot to mention, Lena helped me to run down to the pharmacy to buy nutritional drinks and because I was not able to get out of bed, I couldn’t get my wallet out of the locker, but she paid for me at the time. I did return the money to her afterwards. She did help me to run up and down to talk to nurses, buy drinks and all kinds of other things. Thinking back, I think with the disability after the surgery, having a support system and a group of people who are so willing to help means SO MUCH! Like I mentioned before, this was partially why I didn’t choose TFD. There, the staff who took me to get x-ray walked as she dragged her feet (not sure how to say it). The impression I was given was low energy and not happy with her job. Or maybe she was sick. Anyhow, this is something I considered important as I was there alone. Hye In came in my room and said bye before she went home. It was very sweet.

The first night was better than expected. All medications were injected via IV and this was the same for the rest of the hospitalization. I would not able to insert those pills in my mouth to be honest. I was glad I was there for 2 nights so at least I could get my pain killers and antibiotics on time and effortlessly. Nurse also helped to change the ice pack regularly.

On Saturday, I was able to drink a lot more water, and I was managed to walk a lot in the hallway. The hallway wasn’t big but there was only me and my roommate on Saturday. Other rooms’ patients left in that morning. The nurse took me to get deswelling treatment and Dr. Shin disinfected my mouth. At this time, the medal piece for my chin had removed. I was taken to get my x-ray and CT Scan, and then back to the recovery room. Hye In came to say hi in the morning before work. Daytime nurse was very young, but she did her job, just not as caring as the first night nurse. Ask them to inject the med slower if you felt the pressure too much. Lena added her to the group chat as well. During that day, my face probably swelled up more and I felt the pressure against the compression band. I had the non-adjustable band. My roommate who did 2jaw had the adjustable one. I asked if I could have the adjustable one, because at that time, my chin was hurting, and I felt SUPER uncomfortable in it. I messaged in the group chat and I believed Lena spoke to the doctor. Dr. Shin gave me the adjustable one the next morning after disinfecting my mouth. Hye In came to check in on me before she left work on Saturday and confirmed my appointment times for the following day.

On Sunday morning at 6am, the nurse sent me for deswelling treatment and at 8am, I saw Dr. Shin. We started to pack up our things and changed to normal clothes (the zip-up shirts) at 9am. I had a backpack, a toll bag, a case of nutritional drinks, and a paper bag given by the clinic. It was too much to bring home honestly. I was tempting to leave some there and picked them back up on Monday. Anyhow, the subway wasn’t busy at all and the weather that morning was a bit cool, but I was managed to bring everything back home. So please don’t bring things that are not necessary. They had pretty much everything I needed at the clinic.

I will try to upload my x-ray, CT, and some recovery photo along with this.

Below are pictures taken during hospitalization

Train station was quite empty on Nov.10th at 10am when I left the clinic. (Sorry the organization of the pictures are quite weird here..all pictures were taken within the first week. i had uneven swelling)

  11. Hello everyone, I wrote the beginning when I was still in Korea just a couple of days after the surgery, but after that I got busy with recovery, hanging out with my friend’s family and listening to One’s new album… >_< So I didn’t finish writing it till I got back to Canada. Today is Nov.26th. In my sharing, I am going to incorporate as much detail as I can, as I walked through this whole journey pretty much by myself and I hope to help ones who are unsure and nervous about going alone. (words wrote in Korea)

I just did my V-line surgery last Friday, and I figured it would the right time for me to give back to the community. I am still in recovery, so I am not sure how my result may turn out eventually, but since I have been lurking in various forums and receiving helps from so many people for a very long time, I am also hoping to be the one to share my experience of this unforgettable and challenging journey.

As in my previous post, I booked several appointments with different clinics for my facial contour surgery before landing in Korea. My main interest was to visit the dental surgeon’s clinics. I landed in Korea on Nov.1st at 1am, and I booked a return ticket back to Canada on Nov.12th, in case I ended up not feeling comfortable getting the surgery. If I was ready to proceed, I was also ready to reschedule my flight to the end of November, enough time for recovery. After several online consultations, I heard the recovery time would be approximately 2 weeks, and thankfully my work and school schedules allowed me to do this. I was hoping to finish my consultation within two days, Nov.1st and Nov.2nd, but it didn’t go well as planned. However, you could look forward to how things got sorted out …it was a very long and unexpected event.

My concern: wide lower face, asymmetry

Preference: Shin Sae Kyeong’s face, natural looking

On Nov. 1st, I visited TL Plastic Surgery and the Face Dental. TL was the only consultation I had that was not from a dental surgeon’s clinic. I visited there because my Korean friend got procedure done there (not fc though). The overall experience was quite pleasant. There was no consultation fee and I had x-ray and CT scan done prior to speaking with the consultant and the doctor. The consultant speaks fluent English and she suggested me to only get my mandible done. After speaking to her for about 20 minutes, we got to speak to the doctor. The doctor suggested getting the chin shaved off a bit too so that my chin wouldn’t look big relatively after shaving off the mandible. His reason was exactly the same as what I thought. I don’t have a big chin, and Shin Sae Kyeong has a somewhat rounded chin as well, but I did concern about proportion. The method he applied on me was the long curve shaving (I’m not entirely sure about the technical term, so please don’t quote me on that J)

Later in the afternoon, I visited The Face Dental, one of the most popular choice among foreigners and on Kakaotalk. I visited Dr. Lee, and he laid out two solutions. One is to get double jaw and the other is to have t-osteotomy and mandibular reduction. My lip and chin are slightly protruded, and I understood why Dr. Lee would recommend double jaw for me. Dr. Lee discussed my nerve endings and vessels on my jaw. Dr. Lee spoke English and there was no middle person during the consultation, so things were pretty straight forward. The clinic’s exam room is one floor above the consulting floor. I walked the stairs to that little exam room to get my x-ray and CT scan done. The staff was friendly but not energetic. The clinic was a bit quiet when I was there with my friend. Maybe it was near closing hour. Consultation fee was 30,000 krw. The quote for the surgery was higher than online consultation if I paid by card. They offered discount if I paid by cash but still on the higher end of the range given online. Overall, I can understand why people choose TFD, but I wasn’t that impressed. I felt like a medical translator was needed to give me further explanations on certain topics. My medical concerns were not fully explained. My friend who went with me actually prefer TL’s vibe more after the first day consultation. Also, I will come back to this and re-mention about the staff and how it made another contributing factor in why I didn’t choose to go there.

    Second day was a lot.

Zeah was very busy and very humid, not sure why. They didn’t have an English translator and my friend was the one who helped to translate, which I felt really bad for. Medical terms and clinical settings are professional language and difficult to translate, especially my friend doesn’t know much about jaw surgery. A simple analogy would be - you wouldn’t go to a family doctor who cannot communicate with you. I was quite disappointed to be honest. I booked with their consultation and said I needed a translator, but they didn’t end up having one. The consultation fee was 100,000 krw, the highest one among all the clinics I visited. The doctor recommended me to get double jaw, despite knowing I am leaving the country within less than a month. My Korean friend also felt like the doctor was a bit pushy (something I wouldn’t feel if I am there alone since I don’t speak the language)

As mentioned in the group chat, I talked about Jum Dental with quite so much detail. It was the worst experience of all. During online consultation, I specifically asked for a translator, and they said ‘sure’. When I got there, the form was only in Korean and my friend was the one ended up helping me to fill out the forms, which I felt really bad for. I attempted to leave at that time as I thought they may not have a translator to help for consultation. My friend asked the front desk lady and she said the doctor could speak English. The consultation fee was 50,000 krw. The consultation with the doctor was a super cringy experience. A couple of jokes were made during the consultation, but they were rather inappropriate. Doctor spoke good casual English but definitely not sufficient to explain medical concerns. If language is a barrier, a medical translator is a must. I was planning to get surgery, not here to play around… anyways, my friend who is the most easy-going person got irritated from visiting this place…

Last appointment I visited on that day was EverM Dental. They are near Sinsa station and they have separate floors for exams, consultations and surgeries. Consultation fee was 50,000 krw. They do not have an English translator so communicating with them was a huge struggle. The doctor explained things quite nicely with plenty of details. He was the first dental surgeon didn’t say to get double jaw. Instead, he suggested to move back the chin just by a bit based on my preference. I was pretty set with them after seeing the doctor. As most people suggested on this forum as well as in the Kakaotalk chat, the most important part is the doctor, not the staff. I listened and tried my best to communicate with his staff. Unfortunately, the professionalism of his staff was very subpar. She lied and lied over time. I video chatted with my family everyday telling them what happened. My friends and I also talked about it at home with her parents. They all think the staff I was communicating with was full of lies. Near the end, my friend’s mother had to help me out to communicate with the clinic through a Korean consultant. I felt so bad because she literally had to make phone calls and communicated back and forth with them during her work hours. After everything somewhat sorted out, this staff who was in charge of my case relapsed again!! My friend’s mom and my parents all suggested me to keep looking for other clinics. Because if communication is a barrier, you could imagine the aftercare and all that associated with the surgery. Also, why give your money to someone who is so incompetent and disrespectful?

On Saturday night, my friend and her parents helped me to find new clinics, and after asking people on Kakaotalk, I decided to give one more shot, visiting EU Dental. Remember I said I may not end up getting any surgery for this trip if I cannot find a place I am comfortable with? Yeah, that was exactly what I thought. Before coming to Korea, I thought I would struggle to select the best one among all, but that was entirely the opposite. It was so different between clinics. Some really lowered my expectation. I didn’t expect much, because I would simply not put myself on the table if I am not confident with the doctor and the staff.

Fast forward to Nov. 6th , I booked an appointment the night before with EU after talking to my parents and my friend’s family. EU is in the same building of the Starbucks right outside of exit 1 of Sinsa Station. It was the first appointment that I actually went in by myself. My friend had an interview that day. Thankfully, it wasn’t hard to find. It is a newer building comparing to other clinics I visited. I couldn’t decide to see Dr. Kim or Dr. Shin when they asked me online. I wanted to see both but the online consultation said to better just see one based on the style I like. Dr. Shin was away for a conference on Nov. 6th so my first appointment was to meet Dr. Kim. I was speaking to Kayla, their English translator at the beginning and she asked my concerns and my preference. She wrote them all done very neatly (I really care about details I suppose) on my file before I got to see Dr. Kim. I waited for about half an hour as Dr. Kim had an operation that day. During that time, Kayla was talking to me the whole time, sharing their clinic’s results to me and the people who visited there. I was not alone. I guess that was one of the biggest differences between their clinic and the others I have visited. I was never left alone. I think that was quite important to me. Dr. Kim finally came, and he had some casual English conversation with me. Once he started discussing my medical case, he turned to speak in Korean and Kayla was translating information quite smoothly. I actually liked that about their system, because medical issue has to be explained with professional language especially since I am working in the same field. Similar to EverM, Dr. Kim didn’t talk about double jaw at all. He said my facial bones are lined up pretty well and my bite is good, but he also noticed the position of my chin as well as the thickness of my mandibular bone. My right side is thicker than the left side and that contributes to my asymmetry. He also noticed my mandibular arch being a bit outward on the right side which also contributes to how my right face looks bigger from the outside. I knew Dr. Kim was good at giving dramatic result, but I preferred natural result. He asked whether I wanted to keep 1cm or 2cm of my mandibular bone, and I said 2cm. At the end, he said to Kayla to arrange an appointment with Dr. Shin for the next day, since he wanted me to find a doctor I truly confident with. My confidence about getting surgery in Korea was slowing gaining back after seeing Dr. Kim but I wasn’t entirely sure. I went home that night and talked to my friend’s family as well as my parents.

(below are written after I flew back home)

The next day morning, I saw Dr. Shin and Kayla was the translator. He asked what my preference was and said if I am comfortable with my lips, I don’t need 2jaw, but if that’s a concern for me, I need it that. I understood quite well. I like natural result, a result that still can well represents me. After seeing Dr. Shin, I told Kayla that I decided to go with Dr. Kim. I paid 500,000 krw by credit card that day and had blood test and x-ray and EKG done. There were some glitches happened during this. Before Kayla left, she told me I would have to pay for x-ray and EKG as well as medications. After she left, I was taken care by a different staff who mainly worked at the front desk who spoke fluent English, and I was asked to pay for my blood test because he said they had to send my blood test to a different hospital since it was ‘late’. I said to him, if I paid that out of pocket for the blood test, do I get a tax receipt from the lab as well? He said to me I would have to pay him instead … okay, I immediately noticed something was going off the path. I suspected he was a new staff and I also didn’t want to give him a hard time since he was not in charge of my case before. Kayla was the one who was with me the whole time, and I guess he wouldn’t know what Kayla told me before. So rather than playing with words, I texted in the group chat where Kayla and a different staff were there and expressed my concern. Thankfully, they resolved the issue very promptly. A different front desk staff who also spoke fluent English, Hye In, brought me to the hospital crossed the street and I had my x-ray and EKG there. Hye In was super friendly and warm-hearted.

At that night, my friend’s family took me out for hand-made tofu soup, and it was so good. I probably ate too much, hehe. I started to fast at midnight. I brought a box of Kleenex, some facial wipes, two zip-up shirts, Vaseline, face cream, hand cream, a blanket, phone charger, laptop and more… I OVERPACKED. Please don’t overpack like me. I didn’t use my laptop at all. The humidity at the clinic was perfect and I didn’t use any cream lol

The next day at 1pm, I had a pre-op meeting with Dr. Kim and he asked assured that I wanted to have 2cm left on my mandible. I had 3.5 cm to begin with, so I got removed 1.5cm on each side. He drew some marks on my mandible and my chin. My chin was slightly off- centre so he was going to fix it too.

Hye In and Kayla talked to me in the recovery room and after I changed to my gown and rinsed my mouth. The other English-speaking staff Lena came in and gave me a lot of baby wipes. She talked to me the entire time while I was waiting for the surgery. At 2:30pm, Hye In brought me to the surgery room and the room was soooooooo COLD. She stood by the door and translated things to me while the nurses were prep-ing on me. My legs were shaking the entire time b/c it was that cold. Dr. Kang the anesthesiologist came in and put a mask about 5 inch above my face. I remembered I breathed in twice and everything I saw started turning and I decided to close my eyes and I fell asleep. I woke up at 5:55pm. I remembered this because I dropped my phone under my bed and some staff I couldn’t remember picked it up for me and I took a photo and sent to my dad immediately. My lovely friend came to the room at 6pm and I was crying LOL I had really bad nausea after waking up and I was hugging my trash can for an hour…

okay… Thank you for reading. I hope this helped... I think I will continue later… have to go to bed and prepare lunch for tomorrow now.
