Your daughters are gorgeous! I don't think she will have problem embracing her asian features, you can teach her to appreciate different cultures at an early age. My doctor who is Caucasian adopted a Chinese girl three years ago. She hired a Chinese nanny to teach her own son and the adopted girl Mandarin and they can both speak a little Chinese now.
It's a great thing you are doing, you must be a very beautiful mom judging from your daughters' picture.

 

chloehandbags, I agree with you on that one. I knew someone that was obsessed about Caucasians even though he's 100% Asian. He did plastic surgeries to make his eyes big and his nose very tall. And he end up looking like a mix after the surgery. Nothing is wrong with him trying to better his looks. But he believes that Caucasians are more attractive and better than Asians. I think no matter how Americanized you are, you still have to acknowlege and be proud of your own heritage and ethnicity.
I want a nose job because I like to see a more attractive image in the mirror. It has nothing to do with wanting to have a Westernised look. No one can be perfect and there will always be some flaws that you don't like about yourself. But you only live once, so if you think changing a small part of you will make you happy, then why not?

 

Daniella, so you are saying you want to decrease the height of your nose bridge? In that case, the doctor will have to reshape your nose bridge probably by breaking the bones in your nose first. (Ouch...hopefully there are alternative ways which I don't know of)
You will need splint for this and it will have major swelling.

 

I never thought about this, but having an uncle as a plastic surgeon would be so nice.
Sara, I heard when the surgeon perform a rhinoplasty they have to make a cut at the base of your nosetip, is that true？ Any scar? And you know how people with real nose can push their nose tip upward but a person with a nose job can't push their nose tip upward because their nose is hard, how does your nose feel now?

 

Daniella1011, it doesn't take up to six month for the swelling to go away. Major swelling usually goes away in 1-2wks, and it takes about one month to look natural. The best result would be after half - one year. But of course that depends on what kind of nose job you are having. If you just want a simple rhinoplasty with only silicone or ePTFE implant, then the swelling will go away faster. However, a complex rhinoplasty (one that also changes the shape of nose tip or narrow the nostrils) will have more severe swelling and requires a doctor with very good experience.
I am not a doctor nor a person with a medical education, but you won't believe how many hours I spend prowling on the internet to do research on this stuff so I can get a nose job.

 

Hi guys, sorry I didn't post any reply lately. I've been busy with my summer school and part time job. It's too late to go back in August and the airfare is too high now. So I figure I would miss a few days of class and go back during end of Sep or early Oct. I emailed a surgeon and he said a week is sufficient for recovery and safe to ride an airplane. But it takes about a month for your nose to look completely natural, so there might be slight swelling after a week and you have to be careful not to exercise too hard.
I totally agree with the "don't be cheap when it comes to plastic surgery", but I know people who spend too much and still look unnatural. American plastic surgeons give me the impression that most of their clients are rich white people. Most Caucasians want to have their nose bridge lessen and their hawk nose tip shorten; but we Asians want to increase our nose bridge or lengthen our nose tip or make our nose more narrow. So it's important that the surgeon works on a lot of Asian clients and understands the principal of changing a face but not its ethnic heritage. (Look what happen to Michael trying to be white.)
That's the main reason why I chose to do it in Asia and yes, because it saves me $$$.

To BTBF, how was the result of your friend? How much did it cost her? If the cost in Cali is the same as the cost in Asia plus airfare and living expense, then I would rather do it here. Money can be an issue for me since I am still a student.

anufangava, can u recommend some good doctors in Philipine? I don't want to use implants, just to define the tip of my nose using cartilage.

 

To elle-mo, from the info I got searching online, you can ride an airplane 7-10 days after rhinoplasty and longer for breast implant. And the food? To tell u the truth....it's FANTASTIC! If there's another reason for me to go back to Asia besides plastic surgery it would be the food. On a trip to Shanghai, I ate Japanese cuisine at a good restaurant for less than $10. The same kind of food cost me $30 plus tips in Manhattan! Heck, everything is cheap there...no wonder so many ppl wanna work overseas, bc they live the lifestyle of kings and queens with an American salary.

 

Well, I am not sure about Taiwan and Philipine, but I heard some plastic surgery centers in China offer in-hospital stay after surgery for less than 100RMB per night (= $10-15 including TV). Someone even told me that for those that had breast implants and couldn't walk for the first few days, they have staffs for hire for 50RMB (= $7) to buy them food and feed them. That's some damn cheap price for good post-surgery care. Regarding the price of surgery, I know it can be half, sometimes even 1/3 or 1/4 of the price in the states. But I am skeptical about the result of the surgery from such cheap price. I checked out some Chinese plastic surgery forum ( I can read Chinese) online, saw some good pictures and positive feedback from the girls over there that did it. Maybe to do it over there isn't such a bad idea, I mean you do it here and there is still no guarantee that the American surgeon will give u the result that u desire.
So I am definitely doing it in Asia, how about u guys? I am very nervous to travel by myself and do something like this. If you guys wanna go we should go together.

 

To BTBF: Only $1,500? Where is that? I heard the cost in NY where I live is $2,000-3,000. How did ur fd look?
My nose is not tall, but I like my asian heritage. I really just want to define the tip of my nose, to make it pointier and longer. You know how some asians have a short nose that shows a bit of nostrils? Well...I have that.
The other reason that I want to do my nose in Asia is because Asian doctors have much more experience doing Asian noses. I don't want a Caucasian nose on my Asian face.
