laura-l Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Hi~ guys. If you guys have to do rhinoplasty, which material are you going to choose? I have monitoring this forum for a long time, and i found there is many revision with silicone implant. But i have never saw revision from rib cartilage. Our body has immune system, as my research, our body bad condition, then your body will try get silicone out from your nose. it can be 1year later after rhino. or 5year later or 10 year later. What about Rib cartilage? Warping problem. Then, even Rib has that problem, could it be better than silicone implant?
helenthebeautiful Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 I wonder if goretex or silicon is better for rhinoplasty?
laura-l Posted December 21, 2018 Author Posted December 21, 2018 It is same as artificial implant. I saw their differences from some clinic's page. They say goretex is better implant for thin skin.
hello2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 gortex has higher risk of infection and also through time it will shrink about 20%. This is what the Dr told me during my consultation
justdimples Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 I have the same question. Most surgeons are only offering the silicone implant for primary rhino. But everything I read says to avoid using foreign material and to use your own tissues if possible. I'm so confused. I need to raise my bridge and reduce my bulbous tip.
Livflorence Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Both has pros and cons. Goretex infection will be based on your surgeon’s skill and your immune system. Even silicone will also have infection hence this is why we are prescribed with antibiotics Yes it does absorb a little this is so that it’s more natural as your skin will integrates with rough surface on the material. Silicone helps give more elevation and prominent bridge whereas Goretex creates more natural shape and less chance of displacement. I had silicone before and changed it to Goretex.
hello2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Ohh I see thank you for the added info!May I ask you why you changed to goretex?
