Hi all, I just did vline, fats grafting and double eyelid revision (ptosis + lateral cathoplasty) at View Plastic Surgery a month ago on 4 Dec 2018 and will like to share my review and experience. I stayed in Korea for 2 weeks, spent one night in the hospital and one week recuperating at their patient ward. The whole surgery went smoothly and I am now still recovering post-op one month with some swelling. I will be sharing my journey from choosing the clinic to the surgery and recovery progress and my thoughts along with pre and post-op pics. I paid for the surgery myself and am not sponsored or advertising for them.

How I chose View and consultation experience from May 2018 to confirming surgery

Before deciding on View, I did my research online. The few reviews on TPF were quite positive and nothing negative but it was not enough for me to make a decision yet. So I did more research on other clinics, went for face-to-face consultations with a few in May 18 and shortlisted DA, View and Opera. All 3 clinics are popular for FC surgeries and have good reviews. View was the first clinic I consulted with in May 18 and the whole process gave me positive vibes. The Korean consultant in charge, Cho A Ra is very nice and detailed on the procedures and prices and there was an English consultant (cannot remember her name) to help translate everything. I was also impressed with their hospital with 15 floors and own hospital ward for patients to recuperate, facilities like post-surgery care and safety system. But all these are not as important to me as the results and the skills of the doctor. I continued more research and chanced upon the Chinese website http://y.soyoung.com/al7255 and liked the results shared by View’s patients. And I chose Dr Yun Chang Woon as I prefer his style of works from his patient’s pictures and reviews. Their results were amazing and I was convinced that View and Dr Yun can give me the results I wanted. I also considered that View have their own patient ward within the building for me to stay after surgery which is convenient so I don’t have to move around between my hotel and the hospital for follow ups. And I like that they provide complimentary airport pick-up and sending service which is really helpful as I am travelling alone. The consultants are also friendly and responsive to my queries so I went ahead to book my surgery with View.

Consultation and Ops day

I arrived in Korea on 3 Dec 2018 for consultation and surgery was scheduled on the next day 4 Dec 2018. I met up with Anna, the English consultant I had been liaising with via Line to confirm my surgery and another English consultant Ye Jin brought me for my consultation with Dr Yun, medical tests, photos and CT scans. Dr Yun is very nice and professional. It is my second consultation with him and he went through my CT scans and explained the procedures he will perform again as previously discussed in my first consultation in May. I showed him pictures of the eyes and face shape I wanted and he assured me he will make me young and pretty lol. I also met up with the Korean consultant, A Ra again who patiently explained all the procedures and risks together with the English translator before I sign all the forms. After I am done with payment, I checked in to their VIP patient ward in the same building. Their ward btw is really comfortable and cosy like a hotel room. I went out for dinner and to stock up on the essentials for the next 7 days –pumpkin porridge, soup, milk, kids toothpaste, toothbrush, paper cups, straws etc before going back to rest and prepare for surgery next day.
On 4Dec 2018, my surgery is scheduled at 10am. I went to see Dr Yun for a final consultation and was then brought to the recovery ward to change into surgery robe and keep my things into the locker. Then I went for my surgery and went under GA. I woke up a few hours later in the recovery ward and was still semi-conscious. I remembered feeling disoriented and resisted from falling back to sleep. There was no sharp pain on my face but only swelling and aching discomfort and a bad throat due to the intubation for GA. There were occasional aching pain on the jaw but I am on painkiller drip so it is manageable. I stayed overnight at View’s recovery ward with the nurse checking on me every few hours and changing the container for blood drainage and ice packs. The pain in the throat and hoarse voice is quite bad though and I couldn’t sleep properly throughout the night. I regain my conscious and energy within the next few hours and could go to toilet myself. So I spent the night waking up to the toilet, to get water and changing my ice packs from the fridge outside the ward. Walking around the corridor is encouraged and helps in deswelling too. I had comments that I did not look too swollen right after surgery and the next day. I think the Sineech (Arnica Montana) I took also helped to reduce my swelling. I was also surprised my eyes were not too swollen like my previous surgeries. Felt hungry in the night so nurse gave me some pumpkin juice and reminded me to gargle after drinking.

Day 1-7 (week 1)

I was discharged the next morning. Dr Yun came by to check on me before I leave and my consultant gave me gargle solutions, ice packs, masks and pumpkin juice. She also handed me my medication prescription and accompanied me to the pharmacy downstairs to get the medications before I returned to my room to rest. It was really convenient that their patient ward is located in the same building and I am glad I do not need to walk back to the hotel myself looking swollen and bashed up as it was winter and really cold outside. The first week was quite tough. I had very bad throat pain, coughing and raspy voice. It was difficult to open my mouth to speak, eat and sleep properly. I slept at 90 degree and kept waking up through the night due to the throat pain and coughing. I was on full liquid diet and need to gargle the solution after anything I drink or eat except plain water. I couldn’t wash my face/hair/shower until my stitches removal so I cleaned my face and body with wet wipes. The swelling peaked at day 3-4 and I had flu. I looked totally messed up and comical with my eye stitches but I forced myself to get out for some walking every day to help with the deswelling. Luckily it was winter and I could cover myself with the mask and jacket hood. Swelling started going down on day 5-7 and I could start to see some nice contour on my face and cheeks although it is still very swollen. My eyes only looked slightly swollen and I like the high crease and how they look this point. I did not notice any asymmetrical then maybe because it is still at the early stage of swelling.

Day 8-13 (week 2)

Finally after a week, I had my eye stitches and bandages removed. My eyes are deswelling fast and look almost normal without the stitches. I saw Dr Yun again for a quick check up to ensure everything is well before having my first deswelling treatment. I can shower/wash hair/face and brush my teeth with kid’s toothbrush and toothpaste. I could sleep better now and only wore the compression head band at night. For the next 7 days, I was out and about touring Seoul and started eating soft foods (cut into small bites) like dumplings, ramyeon, fish cake soup, cakes and diligently gargling the solution after every meal. The daily walking about really helps with the recovery and View is also nice to arrange more deswelling treatments for me. After a week, things get easier and I felt my mood getting better with all the touring around the attractions.

Day 14 - remove mouth stitches, final check up before leaving Korea

On the last day, I went back to View to remove the stitches in my mouth, took another CT scan and saw Dr Yun for a final check-up before I leave Korea. Dr Yun showed me the before and after CT scans and the areas of the bone removed. I was still swelling with my eyes and face contour looking asymmetrical and uneven and got worried about the dent in my cheeks due to fat re-absorption. Dr Yun said it is caused by the swelling and to wait for at least a month. Final results will take a few months. I can also go back for fat graft touch up within 3 months. I still feel some numbness on my chin and occasional aching in my jaw if I speak or chew too fast. And I sounded like I had candy in my mouth.

Day 21-30 (Week 3-4)
I returned to work at day 16 (2 weeks +). Swelling on my eyes and face went down more but there is uneven swelling in my right upper eyelid and my left cheek. The dent in my cheek is still there. Less numbness in my chin and I could open my mouth wider and start chewing soft foods with more variety like fish, omelette.

Day 30 (1 month)
I am 1 month post op now. Swelling is still present on my left cheek but lesser now. The chin (below) is still quite swollen, causing the uneven contour and “double chin”. My eyes look normal, not swollen but still unsymmetrical on right upper eyelid. Improvements in my chin sensation and I can speak/smile more naturally now (without teeth). I am still eating soft food with even more variety like pasta and sandwich.

Overall summary
Although there are improvements but my facial contour from cheekbone, along the jawline to chin is not smooth so I am getting concerned if it is because my fat graft reabsorbed/need more fat grafting or because I did not do zygoma reduction. I like my fuller forehead from the fat grafting but the ones in the cheeks seem to have reabsorbed and the dent in the cheeks is still there, like before. My nasolabial folds were still visible and I felt I could do with more fats grafting on my cheeks and under-eye (not done). I really like the plump up youthful look. I felt the changes are too subtle and natural for me as I was expecting more dramatic results based on the patients reviews on soyoung website. I am still waiting patiently for more swelling to go down to see a smoother contour on my face and more symmetrical eyelids. I am returning to View in Feb for my fat graft touch up and hopefully that can give me the results I want.
I appreciate View consultants for patiently addressing my questions before and after surgery. Their follow up and support is really great. Dr Yun is nice and very straight forward about what he does. The consultations do felt a bit rushed though so I felt a bit pressurised to end the consultation quickly.
For now, I am still at the early stage of recovery although I feel and look quite normal I am waiting patiently for a more positive progress on my v-line contour for the next few months.

Hey thanks! I'm from Singapore. I got a package from multiple procedures. How long ago you did fat grafting and why do you need to redo again... did the fats reabsorb?

It’s 50,000won per night. They have different sizes I remember. The best thing is their mini fridge for freezer, I was jumping with joy when I saw that lol
