Say you want to do any plastic surgery and what comes into everyone's mind is "Go do it in Korea!" Yet plastic surgery clinics in Korea are a dime in a dozen. Which is good? Which should I choose?

I've always wanted to get double eyelid surgery done since I was a little kid. Like anyone else, the first thing I did was to Google, "double eyelid surgery Korea." Every clinic which popped up on top had amazing credentials, until you really Goggle and ask around. That's when the horror stories of these top clinics flood you, and frankly, could literally put you off wanting to get anything done.

Thankfully, I did have some Korean friends who asked around and came back with some clinics for me to touch base with. I was told I should set up appointments with at least three clinics. I'm not going to bore you with my old granny story, so I'm going to just tell you about my experience with Namu Plastic Surgery & Dermatology Clinic.

I KakaoTalk the clinic and was assigned to Claire. Claire was the real deal breaker for me, best of the best, definitely a cut above the rest. Conversing with me in perfect English, she replied quickly to my queries. Her answers were clear and concise and she took steps to further explain everything to me.

I do know that in addition to wanting double eyelids, I needed ptosis correction as my eyes were kinda droopy, worsening when I had a very bad case of allergies in May 2018. However, when talking to Claire, I only told her I was interested in double eyelid surgery. After showing Claire my photo, she immediately told me I definitely needed ptosis correction and probably epicanthoplasty so that my eyes could open "properly".

After a moment's deliberation, I set a date to go down to Namu when I arrive to Korea. Throughout all my "funny" questions, Claire was really patient and she clarified with the doctors there whenever my "funny" questions were a little too "funny". The reason why I say my questions are funny is because I'm a Biomedical Science graduate and work in the healthcare industry, so sometimes my questions get too technical. But everything was set and I will be seeing Claire in Jan 2019.

Approximately a month later, post eye check up with my opthamologist, I asked Claire if my current sensitive eyes state would pose as an issue. You know she really takes her job seriously when she enquires every single little detail from start to finish with regards to my eye allergies issues. Things which I never thought of mentioning were also asked.

After checking with Dr Kirk, she told me he suggests that I can go down for a no obligation consultation first and we can decide from there.

At this point, I would like to say that I was also concurrently in contact with other clinics with appointments set up.

Fast forward to the day I was supposed to go down, you know how things sometimes never go your way? I was supposed to be at the clinic at 12pm, but due to flight delays and all, I ended up being pretty late. Namu was the first clinic I went to. I must have messed Claire's schedule up pretty badly too, cos she ended up having to run around and rush along a lot. But she was still amazing and was all smiles when she saw me.

During the consultation, Claire explained the entire process and procedure to me, eliminating all sources of misunderstanding despite already telling me all these on KKT before. Soon after, Dr Jeong came down to join my consultation.

Dr Jeong asked what exactly my concerns are, addressing each and every question I have. He also explained what eye shape he thinks would better suit me and why a certain method/type of eye shape is better than what I initially wanted. Of course, Claire translated everything flawlessly as I held the hand mirror and Dr Jeong was explaining and mimicking the eye shapes he wanted to show me.

Perhaps it was fate, perhaps it was how Claire held herself. I made my decision immediately to do my surgery with Namu and cancelled all other appointments. Claire was very confident in Dr Jeong's skills and told me she understands if I want to clinic hop first before booking my surgery.

But I was utterly blown away by Claire's professionalism and Dr Jeong's deft fingers during the consultation. No questions asked, I paid my deposit on the spot.

On the day of the surgery, I came alone and my friend was supposed to pick me up after the surgery. Claire was really concerned as she was worried that I would be scared and anxious. But since I work in the medical line, I think I was probably the calmest solo patient.

That being said, Claire insisted on entering the operating theater with me. Besides translating (which she did not have to do since the nurses all knew basic English), Claire basically held my hands as I went under sedation. Just before I was fully woken up for the eye sizing adjustments, I felt her squeeze my hands and said loudly, "I need to leave now (for Dr Jeong to operate on you) but do not worry, you are in good hands!"

Surgery took nearly double the time initially planned. The thing is, I'm allergic to all NSAIDs so Dr Jeong did an extremely delicate job to try to reduce my swelling. Dr Jeong was really cute, trying to calm me down when he thought I was getting an anxiety attack as he was adjusting my eye sizes. Well, I wasn't scared or anything, I was just making funny sounds as I got out of sedation. Uncontrollable, ya know?

Claire came to see me the moment surgery was over. She said Dr Jeong told her my surgery was difficult since he wanted to do an extremely delicate job to reduce my swelling. But most importantly, she said MY SURGERY WAS A SUCCESS!

I was given an eye mask to ice my eyes and was in recovery for about 30min. When all was done and I was ready to leave, Claire walked me to the pharmacy so that I can get my medication.

Basically the next 24hrs was just me icing my eyes in 30min cycles with 15min breaks in between to freeze my eye mask again. I had follow ups on the day immediately after my surgery, and every alternate day after. Each follow up was just a deswelling treatment for approximately 30min.

So today, I went back to remove my stitches, which will also conclude my eye surgery journey. Once again, Claire was all smiles and really happily chatting with me. My stitches were removed and since I have a little bit of re-swelling on my left eye, I was anxious. Dr Jeong came to check on me and did some reflex testing and analysis of my eye shape. He also further explain all my concerns and my worries were all quelled.

In summary, I HIGHLY recommend Namu Plastic Surgery & Dermatology Clinic if you want to get your eyes done. My experience is beyond what I expected and surpassed every single limit I set. I'm so happy with my eyes now and both Claire and Dr Jeong made this journey an amazing one. I honestly think if anyone asks, I will immediately direct them to Namu and tell them there won't be a need to set up appointments with other clinics.

I actually sent Claire the message below. I also mentioned that every single friend and family I showed my final picture to, said my eyes are really pretty now. I'm so happy. Thank you, Namu Plastic Surgery & Dermatology. Thank you, Claire. Thank you, Dr Jeong.

PS. I've attached my before and after pictures which I've asked Claire to send me. Amazing right? All in 7 days!

Message from myself to Claire:
I really really really want to thank you for everything. From the moment I contacted you, you've been amazing. When my Korean friend told me I should go to at least 3 different clinics, I told her I felt super comfortable with you and your confidence.

Honestly, I did have another 2 clinics to visit the day I went to see you. You were the 1st I visited, and also the last. I don't know how you do it, but you made me feel that I can just throw my eyes in your hands and you will take care of everything. So I cancelled all other appointments and went ahead with your clinic.

I've been showing pictures to my close friends and colleagues and all of them says my eyes are SUPER PRETTY now.

I can never thank you enough. I'm very very very happy!!! Please help me tell Dr Jeong that I love my eyes a lot more now too!!!

수고했어요!!! 고마워용!!! 너무 행복해용!!!

Hi,
Do you mind sharing how your eyes look like now? Is there any visible scaring? I believe you had incisional procedure done?

Hello,

No I don't have any visible scarring and my eyes are looking fineeeee. Yes, I had the full incisional procedure done, along with ptosis correction and epicanthoplasty. This picture was taken last week, approximately 6 weeks post op.

Thanks for sharing. Namu is on my list . I messaged Claire but still haven’t heard back from her yet. May I ask you a few questions to help my decision making process:
1. Did you get canthoplasty as well,
2. Did you make a consultation appointment in advance or do you just stop by?
3. Do you think i can pretty much get in the next day for surgery if it works out?
Thank you!!

Thanks for all these updates! I'm planning to go to Namu as well.

@Zzfrogzz I was wondering about this too, and Claire told me that it really depends on the schedule and is case by case and can be possible.
