Seoul Consultation Experience

Recommended Posts

I’ve been considering getting double eyelid surgery for a long time and finally decided to visit Korea this year for the procedure. I consulted with a number of clinics in Seoul for DES, under eye bag (transconjunctival blepharoplasty), and getting a bump on my skin removed. The information others provided here were instrumental in me deciding which clinics to visit so thought I’d give back by sharing my experience with the clinics as well.

I had actually planned to go through with the surgeries last year but am glad I waited until this year because it gave me more time to do research and understand the procedures better. Before heading to Korea, I had a good idea of what I was looking for in terms of DES. I wanted non-incisional if possible since it’ll look more natural, have a faster downtime, and it’d be easier to fix in case the shape doesn’t turn out as I had hoped. I also didn’t want canto or epi but was willing to consider ptosis if necessary.

And just a note for anyone looking to get their surgeries done in the spring, the clinics will have greater availabilty but the air quality can be poor from the air pollution and yellow dust so just be aware you might have some allergy symptoms!

Opera
Wonderful experience with the clinic. The consultants I interacted with were helpful and friendly. Dr. Soon Beom Kwon suggested non-incisional DES without ptosis and fat repositioning for the under eye bags. He mentioned incisionally removing the bump would leave a scar and possibly wrinkle the skin around it, making it worse than before, so he recommended laser treatment instead. I felt that Dr. Kwon was very thorough and honest about the procedures I was inquiring about. Furthermore, despite his busy schedule, he was patient and answered my questions in detail. His b/a photos also looked great!

Like many other people had previously posted in the forum, the price I was quoted was very reasonable. I appreciate they don’t feel the need to charge foreigners an arm and a leg because they don’t live here or are of a different race. I can see why they’re such a popular clinic.

Marble
Also had a positive experience at Marble. The consultant was friendly and Dr. Ilbeom Seo was patient and kind when going over the procedures and in answering my questions. You can tell he’s very experienced and knew what he was talking about. He gave me the same recommendation as Dr. Kwon from Opera. Also, when designing my DES, I liked the crease he created the best.

I don’t remember if I got to see his b/a photos though and the price the consultant quoted me was quite high. FYI, I saw Dr. Seo but there are other doctors who specialize in DES at the clinic as well and some of their b/a photos were exactly what I was looking for.

I had requested a consultation with Dr. Hu but he was unavailable so I decided to talk to Dr. Ko instead. Dr. Ko left a great impression on me since he was very patient and thorough with his explanations. Although the English consultant initially suggested incisionally removing the bump on my skin, Dr. Ko said it’d be better to try removing it with laser first. So his opinions aligned with the previous 2 surgeons except he also recommended ptosis correction.

After the consultation with Dr. Ko, I met with the English consultant again. While she seems nice, the quotes she gave me were extremely high and even though she mentioned she was willing to negotiate the price, it probably would’ve been tough to get it to a reasonable figure. Additionally, I felt she pushed for the incisional method for the bump removal despite Dr. Ko’s suggestion because laser removal would take several sessions but I wasn’t going to be in Korea for long enough.

View
When I arrived at the clinic, one of the staff, Alex, greeted me and was so friendly and welcoming. She took me to see Dr. Yun Chang Woon for the consultation. While he was smiling and seemed friendly and basically had the same recommendation as Dr. Ko, I felt his explanation of the surgical procedures were brusque and he seemed in a hurry to leave. He also seemed rushed when showing me the resulting crease but mentioned we can go over the design prior to the surgical procedure. But if the doctor rushed through it during the consultation, he/she probably won’t give you much more time right before the procedure after you’ve already paid.

After chatting with Dr. Yun, I spoke with their English consultant, Anna. The amount she quoted me was high, but I was able to negotiate it to an acceptable tax inclusive price. Unfortunately, I felt she was dishonest and said the tax is 8% while all the other clinics said the tax is 10%. She also deducted the administrative fee from the tax refund so it ended up being only 6.8%. Furthermore, she talked quite a bit during the consultation but when I asked her to show me photos from Dr. Yun’s b/a for the procedures she escorted me out the door. Honestly, I wouldn’t even consider View if it wasn’t out of concern for my mom since it’s a larger clinic and Alex’s courteousness.

Uvom
My experience at Uvom was interesting. The consultant suggested a bunch of surgeries like epi, canto, forehead lift, etc. and the surgeon followed her recommendations completely. He also didn’t listen to me when I mentioned I didn’t want those surgeries and became irritated instead and told me those are necessary to achieve the look I want. When he was showing me what the result would look like with the forehead lift I nearly busted out laughing because it looked funny. As a result, they were out of the running immediately following the consultation.

There were a couple of other clinics I talked with but aren’t worth mentioning and other ones I wanted to consult with but our schedules didn’t mesh. But hopefully, this post contains useful information for other Purseforumers out there!

Just to add more info here, Opera is also like a factory. They don't have private operating room so there is more than 1 patient in the room. When my friends had a surgery there, there were two other patients having surgery. My friend liked the price they offered and the surgeon, Dr.Kwak. The result turned out good (des without incision)
