FIRST TIME PLASTIC SURGERY! (Double Eyelid + Ptosis Correction) - Ruby Plastic Surgery Clinic, Seoul

Hey everyone!
First time poster, but I thought I should share my experience.

BACKGROUND
So I was one of those blessed Canadian-born Asians who were born with a double eyelid, gifted by my mothers side. Unfortunately though, I don't know if other Asians experienced this, but growing up whenever I was extremely tired and lacking sleep sometimes my eyelid would flip and "triple"!! Usually it would go away on its own, especially if I rubbed my eyes but then this happened...

About 5 years ago, I decided to get LASIK eye surgery, but the days beforehand, I hadn't been sleeping much. The day before the procedure my left eyelid had flipped, and I didn't think anything of it. I went in the next day to get the quick procedure, and left. Because you aren't allowed to rub your eyes after the procedure, time passed and I guess my eyelid just never flipped back!

It wasn't something that affected my day, but definitely in photos I noticed the stark difference. I actually never had a dislike for my eyes before, but with this new solo "triple" eyelid, it really started to bug me. I would joke around to my closest friends and family about how I would go to Korea and get my eyelids done.

RESEARCH
So when my fiancé had business in Asia, I was able to join him. He had planned to meet friends in Korea too, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to finally look into eyelid surgery options in Seoul. I went through hundreds of websites, filtered by the top reviews, used this forum, and reached out to many of them. I stumbled on Ruby Plastic Surgery because of their stellar reviews, and they were one of the most responsive people I chatted with on What's App - which made things a lot easier since I wasn't on Kakao or We Chat.

As someone who loves to research, I booked three different consultations with clinics in Seoul and was eager to see what they would say. I won't be naming these other clinics because I truly believe people should make their own informed decisions.

CONSULTATION
When I walked into my first consultation, the clinic was a bit unorganized and the physical office space was a little bit untidy. The doctor who consulted me only spoke Korean and they were extremely fast to provide a surgical option. The English translator was just a young looking boy that was actually yawning throughout the translation! He provided very minimal information, told me things would be fine, and recommended the incisional method with ptosis correction. Because of what seemed like how much work the doctor had done, it really made me nervous as a first timer, and a bit uncomfortable. I actually remember leaving the office and telling my fiancé that I wasn't going to do the surgery! He was obviously very happy and relieved as he thought I was making too big of a deal about my eyelids.

But something in me felt the need to attend the second consultation just out of curiosity, to see if there actually was an issue with my ptosis and if they would provide the same option. Like I said before, I'm a researcher at heart!

I had my second consultation at Ruby Plastic Surgery. The ladies all greeted me when I arrived, the office space looked very clean and organized, and the English translator, Daysi, was very friendly. Also finally, a Dr. who spoke English! After doing his analysis, he told me that I should be fine with non-incisional, it wouldn't leave scarring, the chances of it drooping were low, and I would require the ptosis correction. They were able to work with my tight schedule and timeframe in Seoul, and calmed my nerves. I stepped out of that appointment and told my fiancé I was likely going to get the surgery!

Again, I wanted to see what each clinic would tell me. So I went to the third scheduled appointment. Everything was going well but when the English translator asked me if I was visiting other clinics, I was honest and said "yes". Quickly their demeanour changed and she gave me one STEEP price compared to the other clinics, and told me she had many other appointments to go to, and left the door open for me to leave...

So after compiling all the information I received from all 3 clinics, I knew that my heart was much more comfortable with Ruby PS. Even the procedure option itself was the best choice as someone who had never gone under, and was actually quite timid to get cosmetic surgery done.

PROCEDURE
I arrived the following day and completed all the paperwork. Because my appointment was in the early afternoon, I had to fast 6 hours prior to. Then Dr. Lee saw me and did a final analysis of my eyes, crease positioning, and would always ask me if I liked it or not. I told him sternly that I never disliked my REGULAR eyelid (my right eye) and would like things to look as natural as possible. He understood what I wanted, and then his assistant showed me to the operation room. They were all really nice and giggly, and then they put me under. Things went by extremely quick, and before I knew it, I was in the "ice room" sitting back and waiting to be OK'd to leave.

When Daysi saw me, she knew that my eyes were too swollen and insisted that I don't take the train back to my Airbnb. She called me a taxi, helped me with my suitcase, and helped me get the medication I needed - so sweet!

RECOVERY
Now I swelled up quite a bit, but it wasn't enough to not be able to do simple tasks. I still got home and did laundry, had some gimbap, spoke with my fiancé, and slept early. There was a bit of throbbing that night, but nothing that made me overly uncomfortable. The next morning, I had to just clean around my eyes carefully, and I was able to walk outside to the convenient store, and hang out in my room. The third day, I actually went into the city and was able to walk and shop around. I believe after 7 days, I had to go in for a checkup and to have the stitches removed.

The surgery definitely wasn't overly invasive, and I was able to get around and do things. I didn't want to put too much strain on my eyes, but I definitely felt like most things I was able to do independently. Now after one week, my fiancé kept making comments about my eyelids being fairly thick and whether it was going to stay like that because we had a Korean friend who has done the incisional surgery when she was in high school, and they were quite noticeable. I started to get really nervous and thought: Is that what I will always look like?!

I sent a ton of messages to the clinic on What's App with concern, and they told me I just had to wait for the swelling to go down. Because I was leaving Seoul soon, it made me more nervous and I demanded to see her and the doctor. They were SO nice for actually booking a quick on the spot appointment for me, where Dr. Lee who was extremely calm and kind and told me that things were healing well, it had only been 10 days, and I needed to be patient. He told me that if my eyes stayed like this, I could come back and yell at him! Well, he ended up being right.

FINAL THOUGHTS
It's now been about two months and I know that I feel a lot more confident post surgery. I think most of the swelling has disappeared, and my eyelids are much more symmetrical than when I started. Also, I never noticed that on my old eyelids, I had multiple lines which sort of made me look more tired than I was, but by merging it all into one "seamless" line, it definitely looks significantly better. It's definitely made me more open to getting cosmetic surgery when I am extremely unhappy about something, and I would highly recommend Ruby PS. I wanted to take time to write this recommendation, hoping to get to a point where I was happy with my eyelids, which is definitely today. I am confident in saying that I am sure their level of expertise and customer service would apply to ANY procedure they perform.

Yes for the most part I am. I wanted something super natural and resembled my eye previously, just without all the extra lines and lack of symmetry. No one has noticed (other than my partner and sister who knew about the surgery).
