Rhinoplasty Post - op Tips and Precautions

Recommended Posts

Hi! Everybody! Here is some hopefully useful information.

Rhinoplasty Post - op Tips and Precautions

1. Keeping Surgical Area Firm

Implanted materials such as silicon, cortex, and cartilage etc. needs about 1 month time to stabilize so you need to be extra careful not to bump into things.
And for at least 1 month, try to lie down face up and not on the side so as not to have warped/ deviated nose. Also, soft pillows could help too.

2. Do not wear glasses or sunglasses

3. Swelling Reduction

Keeping your face elevated higher than your heart should help with reducing post-op swelling down. Try keeping your head elevated while sleeping for about 2 weeks after surgery. This should help cut down recovery time.

4. Icing
While avoiding the surgical areas apply ice pack on your cheeks and around your eyes.( 5 times or more a day for 15-20 min each time)

5. Ointment
Apply ointment as directed or 3 times a day until the stitches are out.
Ointments have antibiotics in them to help guard against inflammations. But does not need to be applied too thick to work.

6. Nose Care
Try not to blow your nose too hard for about 1 month even though you feel stuffy nose. Please be extra careful not to catch a cold for 2 weeks after surgery. If you do get a stuffy nose, try using a humidifier and it should help.

7. Ear Care
Try not to pull your ear and be careful not to get hurt for about 2 weeks after surgery. Do not use or wear glasses and sunglasses for about 1 month.

8. Prescriptions
Medicines(antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, and painkiller) are to help with pain and to prevent inflammation. If you are taking any other food supplement or prescription medicine, you should check with your doctor before taking them.

9. Diet

There are no specific foods that you should avoid but it would be better for you to eat food that you don’t have any digestive problems. But alcohol and smoking can cause inflammation to arise so no drinking or smoking.

Foods that help with swelling : Pumpkin Juice(Vitamin, C, and , B2, Tomato, seaweeds)

10. Face Cleansing and makeup, Exercising
Face cleansing and makeup are okay 5 to 7 days after surgery. But remember not to pull or rub on your ear since surgical wound could reopen. So be careful.
Aerobics, swimming, weight-lifting, and sauna should be put off for about 1 month.

Remember these are just my own opinions plus tips from my experience with my previous work so make sure to consult with your doctor and your physicians as well. Thanks and good luck!!!
