Plastic Surgery Experience at MIHO Clinic, Gangnam, Seoul

I had a very tight travel schedule, with only eight days in Seoul. Because of this, I didn’t have the luxury of “shopping around” for clinics after arriving and had to rely on prior research and online consultations. Before my trip, I conducted online photo consultations with several clinics in Gangnam. MIHO stood out because of their responsiveness—Kevin, in particular, was incredibly prompt and helpful. After reading other positive reviews, I decided to proceed with MIHO for upper eyelid blepharoplasty with ptosis repair and a midface lift.

Arrival and Initial Consultation

Two days after landing in Seoul, I attended my appointment at MIHO. Kevin greeted me at reception and introduced me to Judy, my translator. Both Kevin and Judy spoke fluent English, which made communication seamless.

During the in-person consultation, my surgical plan underwent significant changes. The doctor recommended switching the method of blepharoplasty from incisional to adhesion and suggested replacing the midface lift with thread lifting combined with fat grafting after assessing my skin and muscle tone. This unexpected shift was initially unsettling, as I hadn’t researched thread lifting and was unfamiliar with the procedure. Additionally, the blepharoplasty incision was placed sub-brow rather than at the crease line, which surprised me.

Given my tight schedule, I trusted the doctor’s expertise and moved forward with the revised plan. In hindsight, I wish I had asked about alternative procedures during the photo consultation stage so I could better prepare. That said, Kevin and Judy were supportive and reassured me throughout the process.

Surgery Day

The procedure began in the late afternoon around 5 p.m. under sleep anesthesia, which was completely painless. I was groggy afterward and didn’t leave the clinic until around 9:30–10 p.m. If you’re planning a similar surgery, I highly recommend arranging for someone to accompany you after the procedure. It took me some time to be awake enough to leave after the surgery was completed.

The clinic had already prepared my post-op medications and even provided a comforting pumpkin soup, which was a thoughtful touch. Judy also sent me detailed post-surgery instructions via text, which was extremely helpful since I was in no state to remember everything.

Post-Operative Care

  • Post-Op Day (POD) 1: I returned to the clinic for a wound check. While I was very swollen, the nurse confirmed everything was within normal limits. I didn’t see the doctor that day.
  • POD 3: Another check-up included an IV treatment. I had some concerns, so Kevin arranged for me to meet briefly with the doctor, who reassured me that my recovery was on track.
  • POD 7: My final check-up included stitch removal and a deswelling laser treatment (red light LED). The doctor checked in again and confirmed I was healing well. I flew out that evening, which was admittedly a rushed schedule.

Post op week 1 Thoughts

Overall, the experience at MIHO was smooth and efficient. The surgery itself was painless, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable and informed. If your schedule allows, I highly recommend staying in Seoul longer to fully recover and enjoy the city—it’s vibrant and full of amazing things to do and see.

For anyone considering MIHO, I suggest being as thorough as possible during the consultation phase and researching alternative procedures in advance. While the changes to my plan turned out well, being better prepared would have helped me feel more confident going into surgery.
