Nose Job: America?(MI) or South Korea?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, Im new here and after reading in the 'Asian Nose Job' thread, I began rethinking on where to have a rhinoplastly. I too am a American/Asian female, my father is white, so I look very very white and have a broad American looking nose, witch I'm unhappy with. I currently live in Michigan and was researching local plastic surgeons, some of the best I've found were;

-Michael Fozo (American Board of Otolaryngology)

-Anthony Youn (American Board of Plastic Surgery)

-Pramit Malhotra (American Board of Otolaryngology & Board of Plastic Surgery)

I've heard doctors who have a degree in Otolarygology were best at nose reconstruction, and I'm leaning towards Pramit, plus if I mention the site I found him on, I get free Consultation fee :] Does anyone know if these doctors are any good? Another thing, the average cost for a nose job in the States is around $5900. My budget is probably only at $5000 right now.

BUT: Apparently the hotspot for nose jobs right now is South Korea! I hear the prices are almost half as much even with plane tickets and such! Does anyone about the safety though, Im a little scared to go over seas (paranoia freak Dx) I do however speak little/basic korean though so thats a plus. So What do You guys think Korea? or America? Anyone with experience from over seas plastic surgery, or Michigan plastic surgery? Thanks :]

I'm sure getting it done in your home state is fine. if you have to money and time to spend to go to korea then go for it.

korea is a very popular place to get plastic surgery done. It isn't a run down poor country or anything so i don't think you have to worry that much about saftey or helath concerns as long as you find the right doctor. and like you mentioned, they charge half of what america charges and in my opinion better service, more up to date information and techniques on styles of surgeries and such. I would rather go to Korea to get something done if i could than here.

Oh, and i also do believe that flights have gotten really cheap. i see many ads for korea and japan round trip for $700-800.

Just make sure you do your research.
Good luck~

Hi everyone,

I am new to this website. I am thinking of going to Korea to see Dr. Jung for a 2nd revision. I just had a revision done in Sept, medpor implant. I didn't like the result, my nose was straight before and for some reasons it look crooked after the nose implants. I live in NY, anyone interested in going to Korea in Jan or Feb, please let me know so we can go together. Thanks.

Heya, just had my rhinoplasty here in Seoul, South Korea and love the results. It'll be exactly a week since surgery tomorrow and the results already look amazing. :cloud9: I'm ecstatic with the results and will post before and after pics when I return home to the states this week. I did consults with plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills, CA...some of the best in 90210; however, I didn't get the impression that they had the same volume of experience specifically doing asian rhinoplasty as doctors on this side of the Pacific Ocean.

I elected to have the surgery done at the Banobagi Plastic Surgery and Beauty Center. The center rivals the best of the best. While their website doesn't offer an option for English translation, you can cut and paste the hyperlinks into Google Translator and get a good amount of information. My surgeon, Dr. Lee and his assistant Sunny Kim both speak fluent English. Sunny, not only arranged my consultation appointment but was by my side making sure everything went smoothly. She even held my hand when the nurse came in to set up the IV drip on the day of surgery.:heart::heart::heart::heart: Dr. Lee was also with me every visit. On the day of surgery, he took the time to review the surgery plan again and reassure me and calm nerves. He checked in on the pre-op prep process and then came in to chat and help me relax before I was sedated. I think he heard my heart monitor chirping away from nerves and wanted to help me relax. He was there when I woke up and kindly asked me what I had been dreaming about.

Dr. Lee is an outstanding surgeon and he is warm and compassionate. I felt instantly comfortable with him during the initial consultation. He paid special attention to my concerns and answered each question thoughtfully. He went over the method of surgery and surgical plan with me several times and had his assistants explain the process a couple extra times just to make sure our communication and expectations were in harmony. Banobagi and Dr. Lee have been featured in a lot of media and you can see the reviews his patients blog about him on the website. What's really cool is a lot of his patients blog their results often from day of surgery to months after, so you can see the healing process in the stages you will be experiencing. You'll also see how much his patients love him and the team there. Personally, I found the patient reviews and large portfolio of before and after pictures more important than the website being in English. Had the doctor not understood English, that may have changed my decision because it's important that things not get lost in translation.

Ps. When you elect to have surgery there, the center can arrange discounted accommodations for your stay. The doctor asks his patients to come to atleast 3 follow ups before leaving the country. The last follow up is to remove stitches on day following surgery. It's also worth mentioning that they will give you a post-op kit that includes everything from gel ice packs, peroxide, antibiotic ointment, antibiotics, anti swelling meds, q-tips, gauze, face mask to cover your face if you want to walk around town before the cast comes off, and even a box of individually packaged pumpkin juices to help reduce post op swelling.

If you have any questions about what to do while you're there, where to stay, etc...hit me up. It's pretty easy to get around and even find entertainment while you're in recovery mode.

Hello,I lived in KR for around 6 years. There are plastic surgery clinics EVERYWHERE. South Korea is THE plastic surgery capital of Asia and many/most locals get their eyes "widened" and nose done, sometimes starting at a very young age as gifts from parents. It's no big deal for them, just like going to the corner store. My close friend is married to a plastic surgeon.

The prices are very cheap compared to those in Europe/North America and the plastic surgeons perform so many procedures so they're experts.

Although I don't know any English-speaking surgeon,if you have any family in KR,maybe you could fly there and get them to help you with the details.Good luck.

I would go with Dr. Theodore Golden in Troy, MI he is fantastic and is renowned, people come from other states for his rhino's. Check out his website. That said, Dr. Guyuron in Ohio who does not advertise is the BEST. I know, I have researched. I would consult with both if I were you. Trust me on this.

I second that Guyuron is the absolute best. Dont even bother with anyone else.

With travel, anesthesia and OR fees $5000 wont get you very much with rhinoplasty. I'd save a little more and go to guyuron it get it done right the first time. His prices are very very reasonable when compared to what not as good other not as experienced rhino specialists charge (~12-25k). I paid $6500 + $2000 anesthesia and OP.
