angleplane
By the way, it is always possible to create a new thread for the patients from VIP clinic who want to share about their healing, but on a Asian nose job thread, it just becomes an advertisement. It would be a "fun" forum with friendly people but on the right place. Also, I just wanted to say if people want to contact XXXX instead of a PMing on the forum because I sometimes forget to answer as it is more complicated for me to answer to private messages on the TPF instead of using Gmail. angleplane
Also, I'd love to hear about other clinics, as I'm still searching for clinics to have opinions of doctors about my rib removal. And my accusation was not random, as there are people from VIP staff posting here. I know there are genuine patients too that are probably offended if they feel targeted, but it is true that nicknames are created to direct the forum's trend. jesse00
helloo lovely ladies~ so, dr. lee used an I-shaped silicone on my bridge. i'm not really sure why some of the forumers say that silicone is hard but my bridge is REALLY soft. when i saw the implant material before they put it in my nose, it felt kinda like soft rubber so i'm not sure how that would feel hard inside the nose. maybe there are different types of silicone?? my nose tip, on the other hand, is pretty stiff. i can move it from side to side pretty well but i cannot push it upwards or make that roaring lion face... but i don't miss the roaring lion face too much since i used to subconsciously wrinkle my nose whenever i smiled or laughed, i started getting tiny little wrinkles on my nose haha now it's like i have permanent botox on my nose~ my nose doesn't wrinkle when i smile and I LIKE IT!!! i realize now that my nose was SEVERELY swollen after the surgery. i think dr. lee's surgical techniques put the nose through a lot of trauma so whether you have rib or silicone, you're going to be mega swollen. my 2 weeks post op picture actually looked exactly like hher's 2 weeks post op picture. ginormous nose completely out of proportion to the rest of my face (no offense hher! ) Perhaps the difference is silicone swelling goes down a lot faster than rib swelling?? i am almost 4 weeks post op and MY SMILE IS BACK 100%!!!! so don't worry juicyme, my septi nasi was cut during the open rhinoplasty but i got my old smile back, completely. and i no longer have the frozen nose look either my nose is starting to look really natural, especially from the front but from the side profile view, the radix and bridge is still too high for my taste. i'm crossing my fingers and hoping that it'll go down by another mm by the end of next month... angleplane
@ jesse00 : it's great to know that silicon doesn't leave the frozen look that rib did on me. I hope your healing is going well. Do you like your nose better now that it has de-swollen ?

angleplane
@jesse00 : Did you have your surgery report ? Did it say that your septi nasi musle was transposed ? If yes, maybe it will give hope to those who still have the rib columella strut that their smile will completely be back.
angleplane
Usually, rhinoplasties make patients happy, in other clinics I also saw satisfied patients (with silicone or just using ear and septal cartilage) but they probably voice their satisfaction on Korean forums (they use Naver and Daum as search engines in Korea). By the way, I don't think other clinics offer accommodation to foreigners like VIP does. Has anyone heard reviews from VIP on Korean forums ? If so, are they as enthusiastic as in this English speaking forum ? Concerning my other question, let me know if anyone has an idea about my septal cartilage absence question. I'm really wondering... jesse00
i agree with kain, be careful with paranasals!!! if your face structure is like the two examples kain posted, paranasals may not be such a bad idea. i was recommended 5mm paranasal implants, like most people who consulted with vip, and i look nothing like these ladies. i have a slightly depressed midface as well as a slightly protruded mouth. but after my rhino, my midface doesn't look as depressed anymore. having a more projected and defined nose will automatically create the illusion (but not fix) a slightly depressed midface. my face looks a lot more balanced and less depressed even WITHOUT paranasal implants. i can definitely see why for some people rhino + paranasal implants will be an overkill. also, i asked dr. lee if i can get paranasals that are smaller than 5mm, like mini paranasal implants that are around 2mm... he said that if the paranasal implants are smaller than 4-5mm, you won't see the difference at all. so it seems like you either have to go for the recommended standard sized paranasal implants or opt for not having one at all. smaller implant size is not an option, it seems. angleplane
Also, this forum has become more technical and informative, and therefore maybe more cold and less friendly, less like an after sales service where patients of only one clinic gather to reassure each other and attack those who post things that makes them uncomfortable. I think people read a forum called Asian nose thread to have information about rhinoplasty, not to hear about only satisfied patients of only one clinic. But of course, all contributions are useful but not when it prevents others from talking about their experience at Banobagi, Grand, Dream, 101, April31, O and Young, JW, Jewelry, Busunko, Smallface, Anh, Teuim, Migo, Gaga, Petit Noble, BK, Wells, ITEM, IOU clinic etc. because there are many clinics where the doctor specializes in rhinoplasty only, (each doctor do one part of the face) unlike at VIP where the only doctor does everything from liposuction to rhinoplasty (except for eyes) with his assistant doctor. angleplane
I remember jenstar11 said once that the best way to contribute was to post plastic surgery websites, as Google doesn't show Korean plastic surgery clinics automatically (eg: if the name is "beauty clinic" Google will not show the exact Korean website. So, I found a list on Cozycot and maybe it can be used by those searching for clinics. The problem is that the websites may be in Korean only for some of them.
jesse00
yes, i got my surgery report and it says that my septi nasi was transposed. and since my smile looks exactly like the one i had pre rhino, it's not just the cut septi nasi that's giving people unnatural smiles... it's something else... (i got my smile back around week 3 by the way) i actually felt a rib columella strut when i was in korea and it feels nothing like what i have... the rib columella strut i felt extends to the region below the columella. in other words, the stiffness is not just on the nose but in the region between the upper lip and below the nose- which i thought was super weird... my nose doesn't feel like that. my columella is stiff, my guess is that it has been reinforced with septal cartilage in order to provide support for my tip but the stiffness is ONLY in the columella and not the region below. so maybe it's the stiff rib columella strut that's blocking the septi nasi from reattaching??? vk82
Thanks again @angleplane for the list of Clinics. Some of the Clinics i never even seen or heard of . Usually when i googled in korean plastic surgery /korean nose job> BK dongyang or VIP normally is at the top of the list which leads me to believe that it is the best. But i guess it's probably best to ask the locals in Korea where the best plastic surgery is performed . i mean after all since they lived in Korea they would have a better idea and information on Plastic Surgery Clinics
milkyway52
angleplane: No, I don't think it's less fun because it's become more technical and informative. It has always been very informative for me. I don't think anyone here has ever discourage anybody from speaking about any other clinics aside from VIP. I do admit, at times i did notice when other clinics were being mentioned, some felt the need to make comparisons. Though I realized they're not trying to attack anyone, they're just sharing what they know about VIP through their experience. Not everyone here had the best experience there and they were also opened about it without anyone attacking them. I also thought that VIP was being bought up way too often at times, but that was only because a lot of forumers here went there as well and needed guidance from previous patients. Simple as that. No one is trying to do any "advertisement". If you think VIP is being mentioned too often, then I would say you're just as guilty. Seriously, feel free to talk about any clinics. I highly encourage it and I'm sure everyone else does too. I still don't know what my final result is going to look like since i"m only 3 months post op, so I would like to know what my options are in the future when i realized i'm not satisfied with my nose. Stop taking everything what people say so personal. Just because they disagree does not mean they're attacking you. Since you're so disturbed by the fakers, attackers, advertisement, and the amount of VIP posts.. instead of trying to throw people out by telling them to start their own thread, you can also make one too and go nuts with your technicality. I mean, most of them did participated in this thread be4 you after all.
vk82
Even though i don't agree with everything that angleplane has posted. i think it's important for her to voice her opinion and thoughts. She has brought some important issue to the discussion which other members weren't willing to talked publicly about. i think her controversy is good for the forum because controversy opens up dialogue and makes people talk. Whether it's negative or positive i still like to hear both sides. And i haven't ruled out VIP yet. and i still think VIP does an amazing job. There are more positive reviews than negative about VIP. i just been thinking about it lately and like someone said earlier not to based soley on just forum members reviews. So im exploring my options and if i can't find what i want from a clinic i may just end up doing it at VIP. And if any member has any reviews to share from other clinics i more than welcomed them . jesse00
hey prettypremed! i was curious how you were healing. diced cartilage + fascia was actually my #1 choice before i left for korea. but i'm really confused since one of the doctors i consulted with said that after absorption diced cartilage will give you a maximum projection of about 2mm. he also said that he didn't recommend diced cartilage since even after you wrap it with fascia, you'll still be able to feel tiny pieces of cartilage when you run your finger down your nose. do you find this to be the case? dr. lee from vip also did not recommend diced cartilage. and he simply would not tell me why. i even told him that i heard about destiny, beefsoup, and a few other forumers who had diced cartilage from vip but he kept recommending silicone over diced cartilage. pretty strange for a clinic that's so gung-ho about autologous material, right?? i told him that i wanted a very subtle change and that i didn't want a high bridge and i thought diced cartilage was a good material for me but he kept recommending rib then silicone and wouldn't even give me a reason why he was dismissing my choice material the only conclusion i could draw from my consultation was that perhaps he had patients who complained about diced cartilage but he didn't want to mention anything since he knew i was an active member of the forum and he didn't want to alarm anyone who had gotten diced cartilage from him... please keep us updated prettypremed, if i need a revision in the future, i'd like to definitely consider diced cartilage again.
