i_wona Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I'm considering getting dermal fillers for some (currently) faint but definitely emerging nasiolabial lines. What's the low-down? Has anyone had fillers in their face before? I must admit, I can't really think of many things more worrisome than the thought of having a needle in my face, especially with the risk of nerve damage. Even worse, I can't seem to find any online recommendations for particular doctors or clinics - it's like there's a veil of silence on the internet when it comes to non-surgical cosmetic procedures. I'm in Australia, but it seems to be a worldwide silence LOL. Anyway, please share your experiences - good and bad are both welcome! Thanks in advance
shanam Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 There are many good fillers out there. Radiance, Radiesse, Juvaderm, Perlane. Each has it's own benefit, length of time it lasts, thickness, etc. Since you are in Australia, the best thing would go to the sites of the manufacturers of the above. They usually have recommendations of Doctors that use them. After that make sure you check the dr.'s creds. Never price shop - this is your face. Ask how often they do the procedures and if you are near a large city, you will likely find a more experienced injector. The results are worth learning about it - google face fillers - here in the USA you will gets pages of hits. Good luck!
thewave1969 Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Hi there, I understand your fears and believe me, more paranoid and nerdy than me, no one is (and I am old...)...It took me forever to have a drop of Juviderm to fill in my wrinkly lips. Nowhere else, not botox, nothing. Just a drop of filler in my lips. Well, that was a blessing! Priceless! You have to make sure your MD dermatologist is reputable and very conservative. I am going back for my b-day for one more drop. Do it. Start with a tiny bit. If you enjoy it, you can add more!
i_wona Posted June 21, 2010 Author Posted June 21, 2010 ^ Thanks thewave, those words have increased my motivation tenfold. Im hoping I too can just bite the bullet then wonder why on earth I didn't take the plunge ages ago! Quite possibly the best advice ever LOL - I think I always knew that deep down, but thanks for spelling it out so I keep it at the forefront of my mind. Thanks shanam!
vegas-long-legs Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I"d never let anyone but a doctor touch my face. They understand how everything works. Where filler should go etc. Don't care if it cost more money than having his nurse do it.
joansie Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 i've had both Botox and Restylane injections by a cosmetic dermatologist who i know and trust ... very satisfied w results - seems like many "spa like" places offer these which is very scary to me...i go to an MD who is an expert in this field...he also offers many types of lazer treatments i have not had...i highly recommend him to anyone in NY & am willing to answer any questions on this topic...this is no "secret" in NY - everyone seems to do it here...dont know about Australia...sorry its so difficult for you to get good, sound advice there...
prettyprobz Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Hey girls. I want some honest advice. I can't make a thread as I am too new so I'm just going to post here. I was debating on getting Juvederm lip filler on my lips. Mostly because of my top lip. I think it is uneven and makes me look like I'm snarling. Let me know if i'm being too picky or if you think it would help
marina230 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I think you are picky and your lips are fine, but you have to do what makes you feel better. I am very picky about my looks and willing to do any extra steps to make myself feel better. If you ask this it makes me believe you are not comfortable about you lips and want to make them bigger. So, go and do it. It last only 6-8 month and if you like your new look keep doing, if you will not like ...... live with it for a short time.
bisousx Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Your lips are very pretty. I would avoid getting them done at the top part of the upper lip, if any at all. The thing about fillers is that they are expensive ($400+ per session) and in many people, only last a month or two even though it's supposed to last 6 months. If you want a subtle difference, it's costly to maintain and to stay satisfied. If you want a noticeable look, you risk going overboard. It's hard to say. I love lip injections, so I mean this in a non judgmental way
basia-b Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 your lips are beyond my dreams! if you want to fill your lips, just do it if you have the money! its not cheap.. i (need) get juvederm every 6months, cause ive really narrow lips
alicelin1990 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 On my lips with restylane and radiesse on my nose bridge
msop04 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Hi ladies, I'm getting married in three weeks, so I thought it would be a good time for some more Botox on my forehead (had it before and LOVE it) and some Juvederm for my smile lines and lips... Well, I took the plunge yesterday, and I'm FREAKING OUT! Let me say that my doctor is not a plastic surgeon, but has always followed the "spa circuit" and is known for how good and subtle/conservative he is. My right side couldn't look better, but the left side of my mouth is a little bruised and swollen. I look like a half human, half duck! Ugh! I've done a ton of research and I know the lips will swell and can look uneven for up to 10 days. Great. : / To add insult to injury, my fiance (who lives with me) has forbidden me from messing with my face, AND his family is giving a huge bridal tea this Sunday (in 2 days)... *guilt & embarrassment* When I left the MD's office yesterday, it looked pretty even... Fast forward about an hour later and my DF asked me if I was getting a cold sore because my left lip was swollen and I "looked like a duck"-- Crap! After looking online in my panicked state, I read that if it looked good when it was first injected, then it should settle and look good. So the swelling looked a little better this morning when I woke up, but clearly uneven, bruised, and half duckface all the way! Also my smile lines seem deeper on the left side than the right. I know I'm probably being a little crazy bc it's been less than 24 hours, but I can't help but worry that I've really screwed up... I've always been told I have a pretty face, and I'm worried that's gonna be gone. :'( Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice? HELP!!!!
msop04 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Here are a few photos I just took with my cell on my way to work... Notice the bruising - I've tried to cover it with makeup, but you can still see it .
