elynnin Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Hmm so I think I have chubby cheeks so my face isn't as chiseled/angular as I'd like. It bothers me because I can't wear a lot of hairstyles since my face can look like an egg sometimes (really round on the bottom) and I hate that. I then saw this site and I think that buccal fat removal surgery is perfect. I know a lot of asians like having the V-line well I don't really want a V line in that sense but I do want a squarer, more angular jaw. So I was thinking that I could get fat removal and maybe a chin implant? Would that do it? The site says that this surgery is right for you if (1) you like how your face looks if you purse your lips or drink from a straw and (2) your parents also have chubby cheeks in their older years as fat cheeks make you look younger as you age. Well my parents still have chubby cheeks and I LOVE how my face looks when I purse my lips/drink from a straw haha! I was literally like "oh that's so perfect!" Well anyways what do you think? I'm 19 so I'm fairly young, but I have the $$ and I think this would be like the one thing i'm dissatisfied about my face. I'm pretty happy with everything else. How much of a difference do you think these procedures would make, and if anyone has experiences can you sure? Thanks!
hautemama Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I'd be very careful. Removal of fat from the face can easily lead to a more pleasing face shape in your 20's, but make you look much older and haggard in your 30's and beyond. In other words, what would look great in youth will exaggerate the effects of aging later on. And a more angular jaw can not only make a person look older, but it can often look masculine on a woman as well. I am not saying you should not do something you have your heart set on. Just know that you might regret it 10+ years from now when the pendulum swings in the other direction and your face looks too angular and too thin (and aged).
elynnin Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 Thanks for responding! Yes, I thought about that. They say you lose your cheek fat as you grow older but both my parents never did so I'm thinking that I might not. But it is something to think about, hmm. Alllllllllllllllllso I kind of think I'd rather look better in my 20s than when I'm in my 40s or even 30s. But maybe because I'm young :/
lorihmatthews Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Why not look good in your 20s, 30s and 40s? Don't sell yourself short! I also agree with HauteMama, if you take fat out of your face now there's a really good chance that you will look drawn and unhealthy as you age.
elynnin Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 okay i already know the risks about looking drawn out when i get older, but what about the procedure? does it work well? then i'll weigh everything and decide. thanks!
bisousx Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 If it's something that will make you happy, then all the best to you. I can't say I know anyone who has done this procedure. If I were you, I wouldn't try to remove the buccal fat - I understand at your age it's hard to envision what you will want in 10 years.. but by then, looking young might become a bigger priority I'm glad I have chubby cheeks ... my friends are starting to age physically and I still look young-ish.
sternchen Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I would wait a few years. My face has changed so much in the past 7 years that I can't even recognise myself in old pictures. Please wait a bit to see what happens, you're still developing!
leeloo84 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I have fat lower cheeks too, and this surgery honestly seems a bit drastic, especially at your age. Being in your position though, I can understand how it is tempting. Is that you in your avatar? If so, you're so beautiful I wouldn't bother. However, people always tell me I have a baby face and that I'll be glad of that as I age, but when I look at older women who I think have aged well, they never have that buccal fat. I think that kind of fat tends to sag as we get older. I'm not looking forward to that, and I'm not crossing out the possibility of drastic surgery when it happens to me.
being-myself Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I can't offer advice - I have the opposite problem!! I have high cheekbones and... okay, to put it bluntly my cheeks are hollow. Even when I was chubby I still had a thin face. I'm only 23 now, I wonder what I'm going to look like in a few years! Maybe they could suck the fat out of your cheeks and put it into mine, lol.
vegas-long-legs Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Is that you in the picture? You are very pretty! Trust me, you'll want to look good your whole life, not just your 20's. Fat in your face make you look young. If your parents still have it, do they look younger than they are? Get at least 3 reputable doctors opinions.
mininana Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 OMG is this for real? I'm sorry to say this, but I HATED my cheeks when I was a teenager and on my 20s and now that I'm 30 people think I look 22 while other girls are thinking about INJECTING fat to their face. I'm sure the procedure works well, however based on your pics your cheeks are NOWHERE as fat/chubby as mine are. You are beautiful why the need to do that?
bisousx Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I can understand where OP is coming from, since she's so young - but at 25, I wouldn't dare do any procedure that might cause me to look older. LOL
mininana Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 trust me to this day my cheeks are way fatter than OPs and I know where she is coming from. however she should know women 35+ are already thinking about injecting fat to their faces why take out what she has on her face? And her cheeks aren't big by any means... If anything it's the bone structure she has, not fat on her face. OP you are BEAUTIFUL
emcosmo1639 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Have you looked into botox? I don't know if it would work on cheeks, but I saw a dr a while back for my teeth grinding/migraines. They recommended botox in the jaw (3 spots on each side) and said it would also slim the jawline (I have a strong jawline---something they said was common in taller women and asians--don't ask me why ). I haven't done it so I can't attest to if it works or not, but it may be a less invasive option to look into first. ETA--if that's you in your avatar, I think you are gorgeous!
vegas-long-legs Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Here's another bad side effect. Dimpling, unevenness that creates dimples where you don't want them. What is the machine they use?
