kkim120
Most caucasian rhinoplasties are concerned with making the nose bridge smaller (hump, too big, etc.), but asian rhinos are about building the nose bridge. Also, most asian patients want to define their tips more and narrow the width of their noses, which isn't the majority of white patients. Also, Asians apparently have less septal cartilage than caucasian noses which can affect the options available when it comes to building the nose. Lastly, some asians have thicker skin than white people, that is, more fatty tissues below the skin. However, this isn't all asian noses. I recently saw a surgeon in my hometown who is famous for ethnic rhinos, and he made it a point to remind me that all asians have different noses as well, depending on whether they're more mongolian, pacific islander, etc. When people say that Korean doctors are more experienced with Asian noses, they specifically mean east asian. I wouldn't necessarily recommend going to Korea for surgery to patients with middle eastern/indian heritage. Although I'm sure people do, and can achieve perfectly fine results. I hope this helps! If you do some research online, I'm sure you'll find tons more differences. This is all I could think of off the top of my head... Good luck! smilebaby123
Seriously, are there any doctors in the USA who do just as good of a job with Asian noses as doctors in Asia do? I really don't want to go to Asia now after hearing the "organ-stealing" story! It's scary! The expenses of going overseas to do it is equal to or close to the cost of doing it in the USA anyways! Right?
kkim120
This is true... Where are you located in the states? In SoCal, there's Dr. Paul Nassif who's famous for ethnic and difficult rhinoplasties. He's located in Beverly Hills. There's also another surgeon I've heard of named Dr. Hilinski who is a well known Ethnic rhino plastic surgeon on the west coast (located in San Diego). He specializes specifically in rhinoplasties and has a lot of experience in it. I had a consultation with Dr. Hilinksi and he seems really good, and he's really nice and listens to your demands. The only problem is that Dr. Hilinski is really expensive. He quoted me for tiplasty and alarplasty for about $6,000 USD. which is probably at least $2,000 more than what I'd pay in Korea... And I imagine, Dr. Paul Nassif is even more expensive. For myself, I'm going to Korea anyway this September, so it's not as though I'm buying a separate ticket for surgery... Good luck with your search for the perfect nose!
bisousx
I highly recommend that you do not go to Dr. Nassif or any doctor who makes his patients sign a confidentiality agreement. If he messes up (and I know someone who went to him) then you cannot complain or talk about your experience with others in public.
smilebaby123
^Don't most doctors in the USA force you to sign a confidentiality agreement? That really leaves not very many options lol. What happened to that girl/guy you know that went to him? Also, does Dr. Nassif do rib and revisions? I've heard of him, but don't know the details. I don't know what is the point of going overseas to do it besides having more confidence that it will turn out better because there are more Asian patients there with Asian noses. I'm sure most of you choose to go overseas for this same reason. So if I can find a doctor who is just as good here in the USA, then it would be ideal! bisousx
Most doctors do not impose a gag order on their patients lol. I just had my boobs done and my dr had me sign an agreement that I would not sue him for $ but nothing barring me from writing a review. Most doctors you will find good an bad reviews but there's one very telling story about Dr. N on Ripoff Report.
kkim120
Wow. I didn't know that. I just know that he's famous for rhinoplasty. Maybe it's because he's a celebrity of a surgeon that he does this... :/ That is pretty sketch. I know that all doctors will have you sign a waiver that says you won't sue... but this is the first time I've heard of a gag order... O.O

bisousx
Does Dr. Hilinski have photos of Asian patients in his office?
nycxamy
Hi, I am also planning to go to korea for surgery from Sept 8-20. It would be nice to have some company. PM if you want to discuss details? thanks!
kkim120
You know, I don't remember seeing any photos of anyone's nose in his office. But then again, I was late for my appointment, so I quickly signed all my forms and was escorted to a consultation room where Dr. Hilinski took my photos, looked and touched my nose, and then did his magic on the computer... But his specialty is rhinoplasty and he gets invited to talks for his experience in ethnic rhinoplasties. Are you in SoCal? Considering getting a rhinoplasty with Dr. Hilinski? I think if going to Korea wasn't an option for me, I would totally have done my surgery with Dr. Hilinski. The only thing is.. he's kind of expensive. But if that's alright with you... Go for it. He's really nice and listens to what you want.
bisousx
Thanks for the reply. It's not for me, I already did mine in Korea with great results. My friends are always asking for US doctors though and I don't know of anyone I'd refer them to. If there aren't any photos or references though... no way lol. kkim120
Hahaha. I can understand. I didn't think to ask for photos... so I never saw any. Even if they were plastered on the walls, I was too flustered to see anything.. hahaha where did you get yours done?
smilebaby123
I looked over Dr. Hilinski's site. His Asian patients are limited there and don't look very impressive. Look at this one:http://www.drhilinski.com/gallery/rhinoplasty/patient-51#content Don't you think her nose looked nicer before? In the after it...looks wider with flatter nostrils on the front view. Although the side view looks ok/ slightly better. Weird.
