Hello everyone!

I am also looking into the ways of reducing the masseter muscles. Initailly thinking of going with muscle resection which would appear to be a more permanent solution than Botox as mentioned here, but an expert pointed out to me the risk of having this facial muscle being operated on in this fashion. Being a biomedial science major, I can see a big risk of facial nerve and muscle damage with this resection method. As it pointed out to me also that the lose of motor function of this muscle can be quite devastating than just sensory loss. Has anyone on the forum undergone this procedure already and if so, could you please please please share your result? I would so appreciate it!!

Also, I was wondering if the muscle would look uneven after resection causing the eneveness on the cheeks?

Look forward to hearing from anyone that has info on this! Thanks!

unevenness would depend on how accurate the surgeon is and how much natural asymmetry your facial structure has. I think in your case you have a fairly symmetrical face however, you can't know for sure until you get a 3d facial CT scan. Often our soft tissues and the way our facial muscles are positioned tend to conceal any noticeable asymmetry from our existing bone structure.

I was going to get a cheekbone reduction via breaking and resecting the bones but the surgeon, after taking a look at my 3d ct, told me that i was not a suitable candidate for it because the issue was not my bone structure but the soft tissue i had. He recommended acculift instead which is one of the procedures im scheduled for in May.

I think most mid sized-large clinics will offer complementary 3d facial ct at no cost. If you want you can request a copy of it on a cd for you to take to other consultations since getting multiple xrays within a short period of time is not good for you. I believe that is the safest way at determining exactly what procedures would be most suited for your case.

Thanks Couture for always having great advices .. since I am considering zygoma reduction, I am sure I'll have the CT scan of my face with one clinc and will make sure keep a copy for reusing with other clinics once I am there, which is around Oct. 2014.

On thing though, even if I have a prefect symmetrical face, I am still worried about the possible serious consequences from the facial muscle resection, unless the beautiful forumers here prove me wrong with their experiences. I imagine the recovery will be a lot harder and longer for the muscles to heal?

For now, my mind is set on using Botox.

i believe you will be satisfied with the results from the botox. before and after you will notice a significant change in the width as i have.

yeah i still advise against removing the facial muscle. There's obviously people who have done it successfully but it also poses a high risks for nerve damage. As patients get older they can also potentially experience side effects as muscles naturally weaken.

When i had my jaw reduction, i did not like the width not the shape. In fact i preferred the shape of my original jaw as it was more angular. Now its a curved V shape which wasn't my intention. I didn't realize cutting the bone doesn't reduce the width but rather it was muscle. It wasn't until i had my second round of botox that the width of my jaw shrank drastically.

I think here are some logical options for you:

a) If you DO NOT like the shape or width of your jaw - jaw reduction (bone only) + botox
b) If you like the shape of your jaw but NOT the width - botox only

The muscle removal is not a logical choice when botox can drastically reduce the width with no side effect. Even if you have to inject it for the rest of your life, the fact that there is no risk involved is the major up side. PLUS, remember you would only use it probably once every 3-4 months for your first year then after that you would drop it to once every 6 months at only 25-30 units each side so its not costly at all.

Thank you. The surgeon did bone grafting for my jaw.

He cut off part of my mandibles and use it to advance my jaw, because I have receding chin.

So it's like sliding genioplasty with mandible reduction.

Can someone please tell me how long the swelling will last? I miss the ability to chew lolz.

Now I basically just survive on liquid diet.

Oh and yesterday, I bought some delicious strawberry from Namdaemun market and made strawberry milkshake! Yum!

K, I am leaning towards a, jaw reduction on the bone and botox for now. So far, I have talked with 3 doctors/surgeons in my area about botox injection on masseter muscle, only one said he had extensive experience with this muscle. We'll see.

Hello everyone, I had 2jaw/v-line surgery at I.d hospital in December. I recovered in Gangnam for a month, for post-op care. My experience was great however, i would never recommend anyone do this alone, and that you go to specialist in orthognathic surgery, as it's extremely invasive, painful and so many things could go wrong. I had malocclusion stage 3, and my main issue was that my jaw was crocket and shifted to the left, leaving my face out of balance and harmony. I had the full check up which included x-rays, mouth moulds, tests, photos and a pannel of doctors assessing my face. I had to wait 8 days, after my exams/consultation to get a surgery date with Dr.Park. My really good friend accompanied me on the trip because she was worried about the surgery, and she also speaks fluent korean and has family there to. I actually went out and partied in Hungdae 2 days before the surgery( don't rec), i was so mad at myself.
Surgery date- my friend and her parents accompanied me, and it was finally time! I was so nervous I started crying while they started the G.A injection, but Yumi (english correspondent) calmed me down. Then I went out... The first 24 hours are death, I've never expirenced anything that painful and scary in my whole life. Everyone that has 2jaw surgery talks about the first 24 hours, no water.. and the first 6 hours they don't let you sleep after you wake up. The recovery was the hardest part, thank god for the 24 hr nurses. I can't imagine doing it without them. The truth it, you get better day by day. I had regular checkups twice a week and skin/laser treatments every week for recovery and skin care. I absolutley love the results, all the issues i had with grinding/bite problems have all gone away. Also, the change to my face is amazing, truly happy with it. Right now I am just 3 months post-op, I have braces from my ortho that I have to wear for a year. I am still numb on my left side, but i have full feelings. I get weekly cosmetic accupunture, and take a huge vitamin regime. I also have 2 green smoothies a days, to get all my nutrients for healing. I knew from the beginning, I wanted to see Dr.Park, his results were always amazing to me, and the hospital itself was always busy with locals. The picture I am showing you is post-op of 3 weeks, and already you can see a huge differences23.postimg.org/i8pqm3hkb/image.jpg. Make the right decision when it comes to a surgeon, make sure he meets your needs and that has a huge reputation. I know for every famous hospital in korea, it's envitable not to have some failure cases, every big hospital does. Dr.Park is amazing, and I am so blessed I went with gut and chose I.d Hospital

peterpan, my jaw reduction was a primary surgery. Swelling lasted for up to 8 months LOL. Most visible swelling went down after 2 (ish) months. But only when i took photos i could tell how freaking swollen i still was LOL. Jaw swelling takes a while to subside. But on the bright side i lost alot of weight on the liquid diet! ha

yeah i had a 3d facial scan at the Dream Clinic in Korea.

Im having some troubles understanding you....do you mean you do not want cheekbone reduction or you do not like your current cheekbones? From what you describe about how your facial movements, it sounds like more of a soft tissue problem rather than your cheek bones. Im not sure how a mini vline would help your cheeks tho...vline is for the lower facial bone area not the cheekbones.
