Fat, like any other tissue, can't survive outside the body for very long unless special handling and processing/cryopreservation occurs, to the best of my knowledge. A week seems really long to me. Thank you so much for the information and for being very helpful. It sounds like they have to send the fat out to a lab for processing, one clinic even told me so. I guess it's expensive to do it in house and small/medium size clinics don't have enough facilities to do it. If you know any clinics in Korea that are good at stem cell FG, please let me know.

A stem cell fat graft is essentially the same procedure as a regular fat graft, tweaked slightly.

The first step is exactly the same for both procedures (liposuction of donor site to produce fat used for transplant). The main difference lies in the fact that after liposuction, the fat sample used in stem cell grafts is enriched in stem cells through further processing in the laboratory (Keep in mind that stem cells are present naturally in fat, the lab processing just concentrates them). This means that the fat injected into you face in a stem cell fat graft procedure will contain more stem cells per mililitre or gram of fat then a regular fat graft.

Why is a higher concentration of stem cells important? Peer-reviewed scientific studies have shown that stem cell enriched fat grafts have enhanced survival/volume retention rates vs traditional stem cell non-enriched fat grafts. This means that more of the fat injected into you face will remain after the reabsorption and de-swelling phase. This is why clinics will quote higher percentage retention rates for stem cell vs regular fat grafts, and also why pricing is significantly higher for stem cell fat grafting.

Personally I'm still undecided as to which one I want done. Stem cell fat transplants may mean that the chance of needing a second transplant is reduced, but IMO a touch up should be anticipated for all fat grafts because reabsorption happens, which may cause asymmetry. Also, from my research the prices I've been quoted for stem cell fat graft are 2x regular fat graft.

ALL fat grafts should be considered semi-permanent because the transplanted (and natural) fat is affected by aging and weight loss. We naturally lose fat and muscle volume as we age, so if you want to maintain facial volume, you need touching up years down the road. However, definitely not as often as artificial fillers like juvederm or restylane. There is no such thing as permanent facial fillers, whether fat grafts or artificial fillers.

My doc told me its semi permanent too and i was kinda confused but i guess If the grafted fats would absorb/deflate at the same speed as my original fats would ( due to aging), that would be considered as permanent for me and id be grateful for that

Some posts I've read made it sound like the fat would completely disappear within a year or two. I hope it lasts longer than that. I went through a lot for it to be that temporary.

exactly. thats what i've been reading too. thats why im a little skeptical when doctors say it will last for 10 years or so but i really hope its true. time will tell =)

I have had people telling me that they did fat grafting 5 years ago and the fat is still there an I have had people telling me they did fat grafting a few months ago and most of the fat already completely dissolved, I guess it really depends which part of the face and the skill used or the skill of the doc

i've read some reviews form ppl who does facial fat grafts in the US and alot of them are not happy and complaining of having lumps and that the fats are being absorbed unevenly is it the same thing with the korean facial fat graft? ;(

No. They don't offer free touch up. The thing is before I did my fat graft, I did not do any homework, so I don't know that I need touch up. After my surgery, Regen gave me the list of post op instructions, and on the list, it is said, for better result, a second time touch up would be after 3-4 months. Then I asked Regen about it, they told me that some girls need it and some don't. And if I want a second time, I will need to pay.
But in my case, my left eye looks a little smaller than my right eye for now. And if it is due to the fat graft(My surgeon saw me again before I left Seoul and he said maybe my left eye will need a little more fat, but you know fat absorb at different speed, swelling also goes down at different speed, so it is difficult to tell), then for my eyes, only eyes, they will do the second time for free. If I want more on my forehead and cheek, I will need to pay. But it is cheaper than the first time.
