shinyglittery
(I ramble a lot in the first question please bear with me xD ) 1. I always read about people finding GA horrible and all... Mostly about the tube in the throat and throat being sore... I have a question~ I've been under GA more than once, on time it was dental surgery, they said I don't need GA but I wanted to go under because it's more pleasant and I really like GA because I don't have any problems with it ^^ I had two wisdom teeth removed at the same time, I wanted to remove more but they said they only want to do two because it was a difficult surgery... Anyway I had somebody with me, my somebody didn't see me in surgery so can't tell but I must have been wearing a tube? or do you not wear a tube for short surgeries? I don't know how long the surgery took but I was out of there in about 2 hours... I walked to the car and was actually feeling really great from the stuff they injected me with xD at home I only had swelling and trouble opening my jaws properly and the usual but nothing in my throat? seriously I can't remember any discomfort in my throat at all... another time I had a 3-4 hour surgery and that time I had to stay in the hospital for a week (but I discharged myself after 3 days, it got booooooooring!) and I can't remember any discomfort in my throat from that time either, I was eating soup little after waking up without a trouble... my question: does GA always include a tube down your throat or only with specific surgeries or...? also I've never felt nausea from GA, I always feel woozy and disoriented right after I wake up (like the time I walked to the car... I don't actually remember that at all xD and I was told I acted funny... haha) but never nauseous, if anything happy... but not bad. Is this normal? 2. Someone said double fold eyelid tape can ruin your eyelids but if you already have minor ptosis that you're going to correct with surgery later on does it do any harm to wear tape til I get my surgery? 3. I read something about being stripped naked for the surgery Dx including contact lenses... sorry a little vague I don't remember what exactly it was but my question: are you always told to take off all clothes (and switch to hospital clothes I assume?) will you be clothed or not when they operate on you? o.o I don't think it's strange not to want strange men to see you naked (even if they're a doctor) do you get privacy when you change into the operating jammies/gown/whatever? ^^; I hope this is not a totally silly question... (I know what happened in my previous surgeries but it's not exactly the same thing I think and I have no idea how this will work in Korea...) I'm getting v-line and possibly zygoma and/or rhino~
cookiedee
I can't answer Q1 and 3 and am curious about the answers myself but about eyelid tape, it can stretch your eyelid skin and make it sag as it is already quite thin and delicate. If you're absolutely certain that you will get a full incision for double eyelid surgery, then I say that's fine. If someone wanted a non-incision or partial incision (used to remove excess fat only), then it's obviously not a good idea to use the tape because you won't be able to remove the excess skin. shinyglittery
Oh okay... Yes I'm very sure I will get the full incision because I want some skin removed anyway... ^^ Well I'll think about it. Thank you for your answer! I though as much... That it can't possibly ruin anything if you'll have surgery later on anyway... I think I'll try the eyelid tape and see how I like it and if I like it a lot I'll probably wear it pretty often ^^ And if I notice more sagging then I'll just wear it every day til I get my surgery! shinyglittery
Since no one has answered yet... more questions!4. Do you need orthodontic treatment after a v-line like you do after 2-jaw? if you do what kind? braces or... what?5. I've heard you should do your jaw first then your nose so they can make your nose fit your new face. Do you think it's a good idea to do both at once, if you're at a clinic with doctors that can do both well? I've read about the breathing difficulties but if you think you can handle it (many people have) is there any cosmetic or otherwise reason not to have them both at the same time...?6. If you don't mind eating soups and liquids for like, say... 6 weeks instead of 1-2 weeks, do you think it would help your jaw heal better/faster? ^^
lautan
Posting a correction about eyelid tape, even if you plan to do incisional and the excess skin is removed, wearing eyelid tape daily for more than a month will stretch the skin, making it thinner, so it may hinder your results with double eyelid for a bit. Also, for 5, it's true that you should do the jaw first because not all surgeons have the same spacial reasoning. If they can actually see a real jaw and not a predicted result, it will have more balanced results. For 4, you should ONLY do 2-jaw at a clinic that either has an orthodontist, orthodontic surgeon, or a surgeon who has had at least some orthodontic training. This will leave you with healthier, safer results, much less likely to need braces. I've never known someone to need braces after two-jaw surgery, though. cookiedee
Mm Lautan makes a good point. I didn't know you were planning to wear it every day. Especially since your planned date for surgery is more than 6 months away, it would honestly sag too much for the tape to make a double eyelid (it would just look like you taped skin together). This happened to me after wearing tape every day just for 3 weeks! I suggest you just wear it when you go out and want to pretty up a bit ^^ And also when removing them, don't just peel it off. Use an oil and dab it over your eyelids so the adhesive will be gone and then you can remove them without tugging on your skin.
shinyglittery
thank you so much for your answers! I read elsewhere that you need braces after 2-jaw... I guess that's only if you chose a bad surgeon! Yes, I would never get 2-jaw done at a surgeon that wasn't a maxillofacial specialist... it's something you have done at a dental clinic with proper surgical operating facilities, not at some PS clinic I think... v-line isn't as bad though ^_^ (but the surgeon who does v-line should still have jaw/dental training...) I'm not getting 2-jaw myself since I really don't need it! I'm only getting v-line + rhino + eyes + MAYBE zygoma. I'm not sure about the zygoma... my cheeckbones are high and perfectly symmetrical as far as I can tell so that perfect symmetry isn't something I necessary want to mess with... but then they are a LITTLE protruding, some days I feel they're not (but they will be after I lose some more softness from my face?) and other days I think they are and it will be super apparent after v-line and a smaller lower face... but I don't know!! It's something I probably can't decide til I talk to several surgeons and ask them what they think... but v-line rhino and eyes definitely! rhino doesn't have to be at the same time... but it would be nice if it was. If it isn't how long do I have to wait (after my v-line) til I can get my nose done..? Only if I go out every day! I probably won't... I've been mostly home lately!! wow... I had no idea it can be that bad for your eyelids (;______;) it's just tape... it just holds the skin together... it shouldn't be that harmful... (._.) *confused* but I'll take your word for it... by the way HOPEFULLY my surgery date ISN'T 6 months away... but I don't know yet!! time will tell... ^^ thank you for warning me about the sagging... i had no idea... shinyglittery
I hope someone can answer the remaining questions: will eating soup and no solids LONGER after v-line help the healing? ^^ question number 3 and if GA has never caused me throat pain or breathing problems before is it likely to do it after v-line and why is v-line or facial surgery any different from dental surgery under GA? I felt great and my throat felt fine and everything felt fine til the stuff wore off and then my teeth and jaw hurt but not my throat so would it be the same after a v-line or not? lautan
Not eating solids after surgery for a longer time could potentially help healing if you make sure to get enough vitamins and nutrients, it will also help a lot with the soreness (but it should be noted that not everyone has the same pain or healing times)

winterntht
I never had throat pain after my mandible/vline surgery at View, not even a tiny bit, although in Korea most people experience throat pain for the first week after bone surgeries. However, when I had my cheekbone reduction at another clinic, my throat was full of blood and very painful for few days. I think it depends on the techniques of the anaesthesiologists and how good and gentle they are. I ate solid food 5 days after my bone surgeries and had no problem or side effects. Actually for me, the sooner I return to normal life and eat normal food the faster I heal. I just couldn't stand being on liquid food for long, I felt hungry all the time. novwong
I work in the hospital so maybe I can share with you the answers I have for question 1 & 3. Q1: The tube inserted down your throat is called a endotracheal tube connected to a machine which aids in your breathing system during the surgery cos during GA your body is totally paralyse including your lung muscles. You feel nauseated and giddy is because of the common side effects of the anesthesia and you get a sore throat is due to the tubing rubbing against your throat when they insert and remove but usually the sore should go away in a few days. Q3: You won't be totally naked in the operating theater, you will be asked to change to an operation gown and disposable panty will be provided. Reason being is because, they need to keep the operating theater as sterile as possible to reduce any infection during surgery and the gowns are washed with disinfectants to reduce bacterial growth. Contact lens to be removed is because, a surgery can be up to more than an hour, there is a risk that your contact lens will be dried up in your eyes. And another reason is they need to examine your pupils in case you become unresponsive or collapse during the surgery. Hope it answers your doubts
