So discouraging

Recommended Posts

last i checked i think it was $200 or $400 (Nara) i think that's correct but i'm not sure, I was never really considering it... bangkok is a lot more expensive. but at least in BK there are actually surgeons who can do an okay job.

I saw a doctor in an ad say he does about 100 eyelid surgeries a day. I just don't see how that's possible unless he can slow down time.

There's a doctor here who does facial fat grafting and as I was looking up info on him it was SOOOO confusing. Some sources say he's really good, but then there's this whole website for patients to complain about him & talk about the botched jobs he did on them, then I saw an interview with him where he mentioned this one disgruntled patient he had who set up a webpage where he pretends to be multiple patients to discredit him because they disagreed about money....... I don't know who is telling the truth, but the whole thing just made me want to avoid that situation altogether. The drama.

Well, you have good taste. That man's mouth..... oh my. Purrfect. And yes, I suppose you are correct. These clinics are probably chosen to be interviewed because the doctors can speak English. I didn't realize before that most Koreans don't speak English. Very ethnocentric of me. Very American I suppose.

the doctor. the doctor is ALWAYS the one lying. i learned this a long time ago...
i learned it from reading the experiences of people who only learned it afterwards... better learn it before you go under the knife.

hey shinyglittery,
did you have any work done yet? I feel your post. I am feeling the same way. I have been around the world and back (in my head), have read about so many Dr's and still cannot decide on who or where to have my surgeries done. My thinking is that there is
something I am not happy about and want to change, what if things go bad, then what?
I am trying to be super careful but sometimes I think I'll just throw in the towel, pick a Dr
and call it a day
One minute I read how great a Dr is, then the next I'm reading how he/she messed up someone. Pretty scary stuff.
Anyways, just know you're not alone in this confusion.

I can see why everyone's so discouraged/frustrated with the dishonesty. I went to post a review about my (American) doctor who did my Lipodissolve today, and out of curiosity, I clicked on her other reviews. Well, guess what, the "patient" who gave 5 stars WAS AN EMPLOYEE. I recognized her right off the bat. I am so disappointed. I was genuinely impressed with the service at this plastic surgery clinic, but now I'm not sure I want to post before/afters for them.

no, not yet. thank you for your words  it is really confusing and frustrating. originally i wanted to go earlier but now i feel good about waiting, i feel like i still can't make up my mind. it's hard to trust someone so completely when you read all these horror stories and know that the doctors have as much reason to lie as you have money in your pocket... but in the end we have to make up our minds. i feel the same way many days, just throw in a towel and call it a day and leave it to fate (my fate should be good this year after all) yes it's scary, i've experienced that as well. but i also feel like my research has really helped me, i've learned a lot and hopefully i can make better choices than when i started.
ladybugz that's really disappointing  i understand why you wouldn't want to post a review of them. can you maybe post an anonymous review where you say their service was good but you don't like the dishonesty (the employy posted review?) maybe someone would find that helpful (but don't write anything that would cause them to sue you) I don't know. is it possible the employee actually had surgery there? if not then it's really dishonest but if they still provide good service then i don't know what to think.

This is so how Im feeling right now. You are right, and I on the other hand have even more to worry. What was I thinking when I booked a flight to a country that I dont know and dont speak a word of the language to have someone cut me open, and sew me back up? I have decided to do more research during the time that's left to me to between now and my trip, schedule some nice consultations, but I highly doubt I will undergo the surgery this time. Worse come to worse I will visit Japan while I'm at it, havent been to asia in ages.

P.s., what would be the best suggestion you would give to someone who doesnt speak Korean but want to have surgery done in Korea? I hope is not "forget about it." I live in Montreal and I know nice pp. treat me when I speak French (even very bad french) instead of English. But then again I think maybe its a different situation in Korea? You have to be born Korean to get the better treatment? My korean friends r so nice that I dont think thats [entirely] true... I dont know... I'm really bad when it comes to learning languages, sigh...

Hey guys, I was in your shoes a short while ago. I felt so discouraged and confused with all the stuff I was reading online and what the doctors were telling me during consultations. I just wanted to chime in and say that it can work out! I did my fair share of research and changed my mind on some things, but I just had two jaw three weeks ago and my eyes done 5 days ago and both have turned out really well, so far as I can tell! I feel so happy that I have this behind me and my face is getting prettier every day as the swelling goes down. I don't know any korean, and it's been difficult sometimes but everything has worked out in the end! I'll be leaving Korea in a week with a new face. ^^

I believe you should read purseforum more. Everyone here is non-Korean and many of us have made it. I am also frustrated sometimes on PF, but different source of frustration. I got really irritated with many new members who didn't try to research for themselves and always use the excuse " I am new here, (then insert questions that are mentioned several times in the same thread - if they could just read a bit further)" As everyone else I believe everyone should take responsibility for their own fate and decision, and there is ABSOLUTELY no short cut to finding the best surgeon.

Funny enough, there is NO SUCH thing as a BEST surgeon. Firstly, all surgery comes with risk. You may be operated on by the most skilled doctor but will be one of the few unfortunate case where he didnt do a proper job. Secondly, all doctor has a specialisation in a certain area, no one is good with everything. Thirdly, different doctor has a different style, some usually produce dramatic outcome when some others produce subtle. If my ideal is to go for subtle but I went for a dramatic-outcome doctor I will be unhappy.

I just wanted to voice out this frustration to everyone who may come across this post. Please read further back and think twice before posting super standard/ naive questions. Other thread is REALLY crowded with new members who ask questions that they can easily research themselves. One of the reason I dont like it is because there are many promoters who take advantage of this trend and fakes being new member and post such questions/ repeated posts to increase their post up to 10 so they can start creating 'false' good reputation to certain clinic/ and pm people. So when I see such behaviour I usually attribute it to 1/ these members dont care about your body enough to even read the entire forum, but rather rely on one or two replies to decide or 2/ they are promoters. Either way when you dont ask thoughful questions it's unlikely someone will give up their time helping you.

In the end of the day, this is an open forum where we are not obliged to reply to each other, nor that you are entitled to an answer from anybody. So make sure you sound like you are WORTH a help of others by helping yourselves first.

Re:VickyK by "you" in the previous paragraphs I dont mean you specifically but new members in general. Regarding your question, you can sort the forum by number of post/views and read the most popular one:
#
I strongly recommend everyone to take time to read the recently-closed plastic surgery discussion
#

And many people on here would agree with me, by READING i mean reading from start to finish of about 10 thousands posts and take note along the way. I was even spending another two weeks to read the first original best ps clinic (the one that was started in 2009) but I dont recommend it to you because some info are quite outdated.
I got all my knowledge from here and others from PF. From a PS noob I am more confident now and have finally confirmed my trip in July. Some posts in the middle of the thread (cant remember where, Its been a long time ago) even teach you how to navigate Naver and Korean cafes. TRUST ME, all the questions you ask have been answered before, so take a good one to two weeks, get some warm tea and enjoy reading it like a book ^^

oh my i second your sentiment MaiQ. Nothing irritates me more than a combinaton of stupidity and laziness. I get so many people asking me the dumbest questions, especially through kakao and my response is, just go read the forums. Recently what really got me hitting the block button was several people who read one of my posts and knew i had just got surgery started bombarding my kakao saying "You just had surgery? Can I see? Do you think your surgeon can fix my nose?" My reaction is to just block them. I mean I just got out of surgery, complete strangers trying to leech off my information without even being polite and saying Hi how are you how did the surgery go? And then asking stupid questions like can he fix my nose? When that is something only the surgeon can answer! Frustrating sometimes...
