paxsky Posted February 22, 2014 Author Share Posted February 22, 2014 Below is another article with pictures of the absorb-able fixtures (scroll down to the skull picture). apparently, some clinics are using these. according to the article (from what i can understand) the fixtures dissolve very slowly (4-6 years), which by the time the fixtures are absorbed, the bones will have healed/ fused. i think they are using this also for cheekbone and chin fixtures in place of the titanium. apparently they are FDA and Korean FDA approved. this is something i will definitely ask the clinics about because having metal all over my facial bones forever was one of my concerns... below is the article:http://www.drzine.co.kr/1571 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The absorbable fixture is called Osteo- Trans, and Everm uses them! In fact they brag about in the article below. Apparently, titanium fixtures can leave holes in the bones and also create mini fractures in the jaw area. i like all the advantages of the Osteo-Trans, but the best part is that because it will eventually disappear, it won't show up in x-rays or in the dentist office x-rays! paxsky Posted February 24, 2014 Author Share Posted February 24, 2014 Hi MrsKing, Maybe I spoke too soon, I emailed Golden Ratio and was told by the doctor that they don't use Osteo-trans because he doesn't believe they are strong enough! sigh He also told me that they he can do multiple procedure ( facial contouring, 2-jaw with face lifting) all in one shot. along with fixed prices, this would have cinched the deal for me, so I was hoping he used dissolvable screws, but now I have to research this. It explains what osteotrans are and it also shows a little diagram in the end of how the osteotrans screws absorb. The video mentions like those korean articles that the screws absorb over a duration of 3-5 years. WARNING: Video is a little dry when talking about what the screws are made of. mrsking Posted February 24, 2014 Share Posted February 24, 2014 That's ok Paxsky. It makes sense that doctors would want the maximum assurance in whatever they use to connect someone's facial bones. If I see any info on osteo-trans, I'll make sure I share it here with you. However, I have to say that the more I look the less I feel comfortable with any surgeries that would require screws/osteo-trans given my age. I am now leaning towards a bone shaving procedure.
