What to tell your boss to get 2 weeks off for surgery?

Recommended Posts

Shiny has said a very important point. Just be sincere and honest, say this trip is very important to you and you are also willing not to be paid while you're away. You also need to convey to your boss that you really need and want this job, and that this pre-arrangement doesnt hurt your desire to stay in the job.

On the other hand, I think taking a month off is too much... Just a personal opinion because everyone healing rate is different. For me I am doing eyes, chin, nose, mandible reduction and potentially fat graft/lipo and I am only taking 2 weeks off. Some bosses (especially in the industry I am in) think that If I take such a long holiday (a month) it's probably that I am interviewing with other firms, or that I have a mid-career crisis. Either way they will try to investigage the cause so that they can help retain me. I dont want them to be over concerned of why I take long holiday so I just take like 2 weeks off and go back with a slightly swollen face.

Besides, how you frame the ask also matters. I think maybe asking for 'effectively 20 days' sound better than a month tbh... If you are taking two weeks off, that's effectively 10 working days. So asking for 10 days off sound much better than 2 weeks. Similarly, if you take 1 month off, effectively u are asking for 20 working days off. Which I think you should ask for '20 days off' that sounds much better than a month.

感谢你 (Thank you) Shiny and MaiQ,

Initially I just wanted to get a 3 months temp job before travelling. But this job is blessed to me at a time when I need $$$$$ the most....

Flight is confirmed and I just want to enjoy this trip again when I'm there and make sure I've ample time for everything. I still worry how I'm going to put this matter to my boss later.

I bluffed and I felt bad,

When I put in my vacation request, my boss asked where will I go. I told him that I'm going to go back to my home country. He ask if I want to double the time up (without pay, of course) --> I said YES
So I have 5 weeks off in total. The only thing I'm worried right now is the gossip when I come back with a new nose. :sweatdrop:

I'm still worry how am I going to do away if I'm really being ask for a proof.

My greatest worry is by the time I'm back to work, will I look normal? What if my colleague will ask..."thought you're going to visit your grandparents, how come you came back looking different?" ....

Nose part I'm think should be ok, just the eyes.... people will easily notice it if they're observance enough.

Oh yes, can anyone come up with a very good reason for looking different?

Bloated face due to food allergies.

In the end of the day, you can choose to be frank or hide it, but regardless, don't care about what people think or judge, people will always do.

True. We judge people, people also judge us behind our back. That's human nature.

O so clever! I always think maybe I say I fall down on face but then people think why so clumsy seems unbelievable. But food allergy is so good reason hehe

I won't even tell my husband about my revision rhinoplasty. He doesn't know that I had a nose job since my nose looks so naturally (not too high bridge but ugly tip). I'm gonna say that I'm food allergic in Korea, do you think that he'll buy it? notice that i'll see my husband 10 days post ops
