shinyglittery
bad. smoking is one of the worst things you can do before surgery. let me put it this way: if you continue smoking before your surgery and then have bad surgery, it's not the doctor's fault. it's your fault. if you die, it's completely your fault. death is a likely outcome. maiq
Shiny is right. Sunray11, smoking b4 surgery increase ur chance of death by 17% and heart and lung complications by 53% (that's more than half!)http://health.clevelandclinic.org/2013/08/facing-surgery-kick-cigarettes-now/ Mainly to do with the condition of your body pre-ops: Lung tissues not in a good condition, too much CO (carbon oxide) in blood which prevents healing, etc Alcohol addiction also have similar effect so no toxic substance to your body before surgery please. That's to protect u but no one else.
taraunnie
Shiny and Mai are both absolutely right! They don't just place these rules for you for the good of their health.... It's for yours! Both smoking (as it is full of harmful chemicals and ingredients) and alcohol (can damage your liver etc) compromise your health and surgeons/doctors etc want you to be in perfect (or as near as it you can be) health so everything goes smoothly for them and for you. Also for a while after surgery your body is a bit compromised and more susceptible to damage and infections so using strong and harmful things like cigarettes and alcohol can affect you sometimes nearly twice as harder and worse than if you were normal. Please everyone listen to medical staff/s and try and be as healthy as you can
