shinyglittery
I recently read something really scary in this forum, a member saying she isn't worried about getting an infection because she believes in "natural healing". I felt like I needed to make a post, i have no idea how common attitudes like this are but they're really dangerous. infections are cases of hostile foreign organisms attacking your body. in some cases the organisms are too strong or there are too many of them for your natural immune system and if you don't help your natural immune system (with real medicines, not everything that is claimed to work actually works) you will die. this is what happened to people in the past, that's why they died by the age of 25 or 30. because of infections. sometimes they were infections that today are considered pretty harmless. dental infections were among the main causes of death in the past. if you don't treat your dental infection, it will spread elsewhere, and the first place where it will spread to is your heart. there it will cause damage to your heart muscle, eventually leading to permanent heart damage and heart disease and ultimately death. anyone not taking the risk of infection seriously should not have surgery. there are cheaper ways to kill yourself, you can do it cheaper and donate that money if you want to die so badly. please add below any other dangerous attitudes you've come across and warnings to people who don't take them seriously. taraunnie
This is a common uphill battle in the health system and also has been newsworthy here recently. The most common example of this at the moment is denying your children or yourself of vaccinations (I know this has nothing to do with cs but its kinda relevant) because you believe they are 'harmful' and 'not using your body's natural defense systems'.... Well! Lets think back to why these medications were developed.... What was the life expectancy before them and did the body's 'natural defense systems' protect those people and make them as healthy as the general consensus is today? This is [some] information put out on the 'Australian Vaccination-skeptics Network inc.' : *Vaccines are NOT 100% effective. Vaccinated children and adults can still contract the diseases they are vaccinated against and in some cases, it is more common to get the disease if youve been vaccinated then if you have not. Be informed. ....... *No vaccine can give you lifelong immunity only natural infection can do this. So everyone who is vaccinated may, at some unknown point in the future, again be susceptible to the diseases they were vaccinated against. 'Natural Infection'...eh? So vaccinated against diseases like HPV and whooping cough will 'naturally infect' you? Too bad if you are elderly or young and you die.... The truth is, these people who want to do things 'naturally' actually rely on us, evil polluted humans for herd immunity. So in the case of 'healing naturally' not only is it unwise and your choice, it will probably cost you more down the track if you get any side effects or problems from it. Also in regard to just letting nature take its course and getting an infection, not only are you compromising your health, you are also aiding the spread of superbugs and other diseases. Btw I am not trying to start an argument or war on here.. I am just trying to give my own opinion from experience. Sure, there is a time and place for natural, herbal or holistic approaches, and sometimes they can be quite effective, but only if you have tried and tested the wonderful advancement of modern medications, which unlike the previous, have been proven safe and effective. Most of all, stay healthy and safe and make your own decisions, based on advice from a medical professional or what you think is right for you xoxo
k-couture
how interesting....i think everything in moderation. That person who said she is not worried about infections because she believes in natural healing is just asking for trouble. Does she not realize that when left untreated, a surgical infection can lead to death? If knowing this and she still feels the same way then that's a rather extreme sentiment she is clinging onto. Regarding vaccinations tho, i actually believe in the long term it may not be beneficial to your body. I have never gotten any vacinnations besides when i was 12 there was a government required Tubercolosis and mmr shot. Never had the flu shots or anything like that and i rarely fall ill. I also avoid taking vitamins in the pill form if possible and rather go for organic fruits and vegetables. The thing is, people who rush to take medication even if they are a little under the weather tend to fall sick more easily because all the drugs you are pumping yourself with is weakening your immune system in the long run. Which is why during the rare times where i do in fact fall sick, i first try to wait it out for the first 3 days by keeping myself hydrated and eating natural foods. This usually works for me. Obviously if we have some hirely contagious virus going around that is threatening then id opt for a vaccination right away lol. Its all a matter of moderation and rationality i believe. Also i figure this might be of interest to you guys. I've got a friend who had very bad OCD. Western specialists kept prescribing him with different mood altering medicine like anti depressants and it didn't do anything but made him mildy high. He even went through placebos with the psych but it didn't help either. After years of failed treatments he went to an acupuncturist and after 2 months of weekly treatments he got better. I'm may be one for building my own immune system naturally through healthy practices but i'm usually not a believer when it comes to chinese medicine and acupuncture so needless to say it was rather shocking to me. taraunnie
I believe a good diet and lifestyle can be beneficial to your health. I don't think the flu shots are necessary at all, for the reason, unless its a big life threatening flu, as you said a good diet = good health and immune system is the most important for this situation. Although they are always touted as the be all to end all for health as you said as well it is basically pumping your self with unnecessary drugs, unless you are weak and elderly, then I see the benefit because their immune system is usually compromised. I was just talking about the people who are absolutely anti vaccinations and refuse to have like you said, tuberculosis or HPV etc the important ones we have to have in Australia that are to make our population healthy and disease free and not like countries where tuberculosis and syphilis are rife. Sorry, I wasn't trying to say that you have to have all medications and natural alternatives don't work, but [people] just don't be stubborn or one minded towards medication or non medication. Moderation is key as you mentioned. As for the acupuncture, it wouldn't be the first treatment I'd op for xD .... But if it worked for him after the other alternatives didn't that's really interesting.. Thanks for sharing that .... It really surprised me haha .. I wouldn't usually associate it with helping OCD etc .. But then again I am not an expert in the field haha. I know they are only fine needles but I don't really like needles, so even if it were not painful, I still think the thought of what was happening would make me a bit psychosomatic xD idk Anyway, make sure you stay healthy nonetheless, and eat plenty of foodstuffs haha especially organic and chemical free as they are better for your health too
nero19
Vaccins do more harm then good, you are injecting a virus in your body in a weakened state though that doesnt mean it does not do damage to your body and cells, also worth mentioning there are children who get paralyzed, autistic, brain damage and other things from vaccins. Unfortunately since we live in cities with so many people around us you kind of have to take the risk. Healthy diet and lifestyle is everything avoid omega 6 (cookies, sunflower oil which is in pretty much every processed food.) it boosts inflammations, and try to only take medicine when you really need to. And that girl should really get a reality check cause after my jawsurgery i had a cut on the left corner of my mouth i thought its just a little cut it will heal by itself i was stupid since the general anesthetic is so heavy on your body. It got infected and a huge bleeding wound and opening my mouth was very painful. it left a big scar. sorry this sort of turning into a rant im a health fanatic and a big advocate for homeopathy instead of general medicine. btw: vaccines are gold mines for government and pharmacy industry thanks for the post shiny
thetrolltrain
Yet measles is popping up again in Boston, New York City, and L.A. Also, the original study that made claims linking autism and the MMR vaccine has already been redacted. http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(97)11096-0/abstract Please vaccinate your children with at least the BASICS (measles, polio, etc). Last thing we want is an outbreak of preventable diseases in schools.
shinyglittery
There are some problems with vaccinations. if the vaccinations are given when the children and their immune systems are too young then their immune systems won't react normally and the vaccination can have unexpected consequences. if they're given as "super vaccination" concoctions containing several different vaccinations in one then that will screw up the immune system totally. before vaccinations there were no cases of humans being infected with 10 or more different diseases at the same time. usually people got infected with one disease, then maybe another while they were still sick with the first one. and might have had an infection at the same time and parasites. but they didn't get hit with 5-10 diseases in one instant. The human body isn't adapted to that. If you put many different vaccinations into one your body won't handle it well and all kinds of problems can develop. There are also vaccinations that are created to make money but aren't necessary or even safe. (Lots of corruption) But the rest are vaccinations that are good, help people stay immune and in some cases are necessary to avoid diseases later in life that would leave people sick or crippled for life. some people might survive a lifetime without ever getting vaccinated for anything. that's not 100% or probably even 10% of people, that's a really few people. there's a good chance you're not one of those people and you won't live a healthy life if you weren't at least vaccinated in your childhood. some people might not live a healthy life unless they got vaccinated several times against all sorts of things. people are different. about TCM: there are things in TCM that actually work. however those things aren't meant against specific viruses or bacteria (like bird flu, SARS, malaria and so on). There are so many viruses and bacteria. You can't get TCM medication against bird flu specifically and you can't get a TCM medication against polio specifically. scientifically discovered vaccinations are made against a specific type of virus. you can't get that from TCM. there are just some things that TCM doesn't work for and then you should use scientific medicine. and the other way around (TCM can help rheumatism and arthritis, western medicine can't as far as i know) so it's important to understand that different things require different treatments. not everything sold as TCM is effective/safe though, so use your common sense. i don't mean to be biased but since the western "equivalent" of TCM is claiming water cures all diseases and the more diluted it is the more effective it is, it's especially dangerous if you believe that kind of stuff and lump it together with things that actually work and are good for you (most scientifically discovered and approved medications and vaccines and many TCM herbs and preparations). K Couture: it's not too surprising, there are things that Western medicine can't cure that TCM can and vice versa. Chinese Zodiac makes a lot of sense too (find out yours if you don't believe me, you might be surprised. how it can possibly work i don't know, but you might have a similar eye opening experience as you did with the OCD person if you do find out. but you have to know when you were born down to the half hour or minute and where you were born too). If you put the collective knowledge of billions of people from (at least) tens of thousands of years together and concentrate it and classify it systematically, it's no surprise you get wisdom out of it. A lot of it is the collective knowledge of how to survive all those years before the modern day. That includes surviving all the diseases except the ones that didn't exist in the past. The systematic classification is not different from the way science works. It's the same process: taking a lot of information, comparing it, getting rid of the contradicting information and drawing conclusions and rearranging the knowledge in a way that makes sense. shinyglittery
A good diet, a healthy lifestyle and enough exposure to dirt and diseases (but not the wrong diseases) as a child are key factors in having a good immune system. i've always been really healthy and i think it's partly because i was outside a LOT as a child and touched wild animals (like birds and squirrels) with my bare hands when feeding them. i even touched a couple of dead animals we found and collected bird feathers haha. probably not very wise but i didn't know better or think it was that bad. i also lived a whole summer with a relative who had a really bad cough and it got worse until they took him to the hospital. he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and died soon after. i wasn't vaccinated against tuberculosis and i didn't get sick. i also read that in some Asian countries 80% of people test positive for tuberculosis. but i don't think 80% of people in those countries are coughing up blood until they die a few weeks later haha. that doesn't mean people shouldn't get vaccinated but it means that not everything applies to everyone. if you tell people they will die unless they get vaccinated then they find one person who wasn't vaccinated and didn't get terribly sick or die and then they think it's all lies. so it's better to understand that a lot of it depends on the person but there are some things that are universal (like no one is immune to HIV or getting cancer from too much radiation) and some things were it's not worth it to take the risk.
