spockgal Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I started this thread as I read a lot about the pros and possibly cons of having a host mum. Specifically, Ephphatha Residence seems to be a popular choice in this forum. Just wanted some advice from all of you on this: I'm planning to go alone for my facial contouring procedures and thought that it will be good to stay at this place since they are numerous reviews about Mrs Kim's care and concern for the guests during their recovery period. However, some reviews mentioned that this dedication is superficial since host mums will try to get a commission from the clinics post - surgery. I'm planning to get my consultations done in clinics with existing translators so I won't need anyone to tag along. I just thought that having some kind soul during my recovery period will be good. So what should I do? Ephphatha or no Ephphatha ?
k-couture Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Any dedicated care is superficial. After all its an exchange of service for money. I think some ppl are overly paranoid about about ppl trying to inflate the commission charged. Not any tom dick and harry who knows which clinic u are going to can ring up them up and claim they sent you and therefore deserve part of the commission. Often they have to be an agency in order to take a piece of your commission. And if ure host mum is not tagging along with u during your consultaton then you 100% do not need to worry. My only advice is that those rooms seem very cramp and lacking ventilation. I think if u want support and comfort for your recovery a 5 star hotel would be better. Make your hotel phone (room service lol) your support. U can get really good rates for even 5 star hotels if ure clinic is affiliated with them.
maiq Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 A group of girls and myself is staying there for our surgeries in July. Most of us are fairly experienced re:commission and surgery knowledge, I will keep you and the forumers posted with my experience at Bocksoon place (Bocksoon is the name of the host mom of that residence)
k-couture Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 good luck on ure surgery MaiQ! wish u all the best
spockgal Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 Hi MaiQ and K Couture, Thank you for your replies and advices. I was contemplating between staying at a hotel with room service or at Bocksoon place. I thought it might be better to have a physical person to turn to should I need help, rather than just a hotel service person. But then, it might just be my own wishful thinking that Bocksoon place will provide more warmth.
nini330 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I'm also deciding whether to chose a hotel or a guesthouse, I looked into those so called recovery places, most of them look way too cramped, I'm not quite sure the host will be there to help u when you need her, best to go with accompany in my opinion.
spockgal Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 Unfortunately things didn't work out and I'll have to on my own. Hence, it has to be a big decision on where to stay...
nini330 Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Personally I think u should consider a more clean and spacious environment, the doctor recommend taking little walks which will help with the healing process, which I like the idea of 24 hour gym inside the a hotel so I can walk on the treadmill in the middle of the night with less people. And also the hospital provides you with a translator, get her personal number and ask nicely if you can call her if you need anything (tbh it's their job to make sure your going to be ok). Also do ask them to arrange a ride to your staying place so you don't have to get a cab which is not recommended due to you still being drugged up. Definitely remember to get all your food and water supplies ready before your surgery so you won't starve to death after surgery. There is just a check list to make sure your trip is safe since your going by your self.
spockgal Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 Thank you for your kind advice, nini330. Will look out for suitable alternatives too. Hope those who had previously stayed at Ephphatha to give their feedback.
