Why Korea for Plastic Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Wow.. You left a lot of interesting articles/info...

Hmm, I can't say for anyone else, but I was already visiting Korea to see my friends and family here. I figured, while I'm here, why not do some PS?

For those who do not speak the language or have friends/family here... I'm sure it's significantly harder, so I can't really understand either...

Well to be fair to these surgeons, they've spent a very long time building up their reputation and honing their skills, it's only natural that they would want to protect it. Some patients are very anxious and high strung, e.g. http://www.realself.com/question/frozen-nose-nostrils-spread-after-alar-reduced; also, the results of the surgery can be very subjective, a friend of mine had double eyelids done, many people thought it was nice, but she wanted to sue the doctor.

That being said, I feel that the whole premise of plastic surgery has a high degree of risk involved, and while doctors don't intentionally cause harm to patients, they do get involved in situations where patients are put at risk - for e.g. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/mar/15/pip-breast-implant-scandal-7000-more

To each their own - I would NEVER go to a surgeon who would bar me from speaking about my experience. Even if he/she is rated as a top surgeon. Because then, their rep is just smoke and mirrors.

This is my first post because I couldn't find any answers on the web, but I'd like to bring the topic back around to the original posters question: Why Korea?

I'd like to add: Why just Korea?

I've been wanting to get my nose done and seen plastic surgeons in the states, but the costs to me are outrageous for the amount of time & outpatient recovery involved. Deciding to look elsewhere, I've known about South Korea's extensive plastic surgery business. There's plenty of information on doctor's and clinics, but here's the thing: I'm not Asian.

I don't necessarily feel comfortable getting work done on my Western features in place that primarily caters to Asian beauty standards. Not that I don't trust them, but I'm sure Asian women go to SK for the same reason they don't go to the US or Europe. I'm Hispanic, and I learned that places like Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Cuba are also popular destinations for Medical Tourism, but there isn't much else info on it.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or knows about Cosmetic Vacations in South America?

I agree with you. I actually do think that if you aren't Asian, getting work done that isn't really general like ear pinning or a boob job should be done where the beauty standard is what you aspire to more. I am Asian and that's why I would prefer to go to Korea if I choose to do cosmetic surgery someday. Just a cautionary note, though: there are plenty of great clinics in Brazil, but you should be maybe just a bit more careful than in the US.

Though I wouldn't want to get CS somewhere just so I could vacation there, personally I would love to go to Korea and catch a Big Bang concert

Hmm... Your question is like, "why go to Beverly Hills to get work done?" Well, if you're going to alter your features, of course you'd go to the best right? Many of us writing on the ps thread are Asian and like the style that is Korean plastic surgery over the results available in our local community. For instance, I live in the States where my rhino would be considered "ethnic rhinoplasty" not Korean, or East Asian, or even just Asian. I wouldn't trust my face to a surgeon who's not specialized in rhino let alone Asian rhino.

Regrading your concerns as a white person... from what I've heard while I consulted clinics in Korea, lots of people with caucasian features, come to Korea for plastic surgery because it is technically the most advanced and considerably cheaper than the States.

I don't know about Mexico or South America because they are still very developing nations... that's why ps is so cheap there. But in Korea, PS is so cheap because there's so much of it...

You may want to ask consultants about previous caucasian patients and their results. I know there was one forumer who did his jaw in korea... I forget his name...

Double eyelid in Korea
Hey girls! I want to do double eyelid surgery including widening my inner eyes and outer eyes. But I'm not sure which clinic and which doctor to go...
Mind giving me some advices?
In deciding between JW clinic, BK clinic and ITEM clinic.

Perhaps I just over explained myself. My question was asking whether anyone knew about the PS in places like Brazil, Colombia, etc. Brazil is actually one of the top competitors in PS, but that's all statistics.

I was just curious if anyone knew anything. Finding info has been harder in comparison to what is available for SK.

I'm curious about this myself.

Also, what is the price difference of say double eyelid surgery in Korea vs getting it done in the US? And what if you found an asian cosmetic surgeon in the US, still no good?

from my research (which is still ongoing)...

i was planning on going to the US for the surgery, but then read that a LOT of ex-patients of a pretty popular beverly hills surgeon (asian in ethnicity, but schooled, trained and raised in the US) who apparently 'specialises' in asian cosmetic surgery (including, but not limited to eyes and nose) did a terrible job on their respective surgeries and now they are going to korea for revision. in fact a couple are on this forum (just on another thread).

also eyes in US (and i only got the prices from ONE place, so i admit not 'extensive') is approx USD$3-6, nose approx USD$4-6...obviously this depends on a lot of factors. in korea eyes are about USD$2-4 and nose USD$3-5 - after factoring in flights and accommodation for approx 2 week min stay, it's not that much cheaper.

for me, at least i can say i'm not making a saving by going to korea - so why go? it's my face and i want the best surgeons working on it, and i just feel that they're in korea. after consultations and i don't feel comfortable, i'll walk away and not get any surgery - i'm vain, but not a serious gambler

my 2 cents
