onlyleigh Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Hello everyone I am travelling to Korea at the end of February from the UK, and although there seems to be mainly women on here, (I am male) I have found this site very informative I am getting really nervous now, I will be travelling alone (this will be really difficult, having no one to talk to) and plan to stay in Korea for around 4/5 weeks. What makes it worse, is I am terrified of flying. In priority order, I hope to have upper jaw surgery (moved forward around 3-4 mm) and eye surgery for dark circles (lower bleph and fat graft). My main focus for the jaw surgery is to only have a DR who is a maxillofacial specialist and not just a plastic surgeon. The clinics I will be consulting with for my jaw surgery, in preference order are: Everm Bangobagi Darps My teeth a perfectly aligned at the moment but after surgery they will be out of alignment so I will be seeing an orthodontist back in the UK. The clinics I will be consulting with for my eye surgery, in preference order are: Teuim View Girin Dream :help: This is where I could do with your help. How does the list look? Have I missed any clinics that are not only good, but specialise in jaw and eye, particularly DR recommendation? If anyone has had similar surgery and has the best contact details for the above clinics I would love to hear from you. Would also be useful if I could find out what you paid . To pay for the surgery I will be taking cash and card which If I need to can use the cash as an extra negotiation tactic. I am still in the process of getting some quotes back and need to start putting together a list of post-surgery items Oh and I will not be hiring a translator. Feel free to PM or Kakao onlyleigh
heylo Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Hi, I'm also from the UK (female) and am interested in jaw surgery plus revision genioplasty in Korea. I wonder which ortho you're seeing? Have they agreed to realign your teeth once back home? Presumably you're getting the surgery for aesthetic reasons, hence the need to fly out I know that Koreans do the 'surgery first' approach where braces aren't required. Don't know what happens after that, though. Anyway, you're brave and sure you'll be fine IF you do your research. There are a few guys (Caucasian) who've had stuff done in S.Korea - might be wise to try and connect with someone who's had surgery there prior.
let-me-out Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 If you are consulting with EverM, I highly recommend bringing a translator because Dr. Yoon does not speak English and Gahee (the Mandarin translator) is not fluent. It's important that the person translating for you can precisely understand your concerns and requests. Remember, it's your face! Oh, and I am also a Caucasian male. You can PM me with any questions you have regarding my experience at EverM. I had four jaw surgery there last month.
onlyleigh Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Hi heylo, I am currently consulting with a number of orthodontists (Manchester and Leeds) but I have not settled on either at this moment. The surgery first approach is the main reason why I am heading out to Korea, you still require braces after the surgery, it is supposed to shorten the overall treatment time by around 6-12 months. I have seen three maxillofacial surgeons here in the UK and they agreed to do the treatment here privately, but I dont want to go through years of braces first then have surgery, followed by post braces. I had lower jaw surgery here in the UK when I was a teenager and they were supposed to do both upper and lower jaws, but at the last minute changed the procedure to just my lower jaw (moving it back) and it never gave me the result I was hoping for. Are you planning to go to Korea or you still looking into it all? let me out - Really interesting in hearing about your experience, I will PM you. One question though, I will be taking cash in pounds GBP, will I have any problems exchanging in Korea?
nero19 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Can i ask what kind of eye surgery you are getting?
sevenseas Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Hi OnlyLeigh, I have no idea about the jaw surgery, but from what i have read in this forum, it seems like both Teuim and Dream have good reviews. By the way, is that your picture in your avatar? Anyway, i am wondering about the costs and price quotes from the Korean clinic, because i have encountered some "discrepancies" when they are quoting a foreigner (who obviously does not speak Korean) VS local Korean. I am very curious and would like to know if you have any strategies for this. Anyway (again), i do hope that you have an overall good experiences
rinda10 Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I had double eyelids and rhinoplasty in Girin last year. The result is quite satisfied, because I want to get natural face rather than dolly face (looks really unnatural). Girin consultant said they are aiming for safe and natural appearance. Also, Dr.Lee and Dr.Song (Surgeon) always met me when I visit clinic for after treatment. and they answer me what I asked, it was quite impressive. and English translator also helped me every time when I need help. their service and quite good. But, price is higher than DA, Pitangui, and View. And my Korean friends said Dr.Lee is specialized in facial contouring. I am planning to visit again Girin for having facial contouring during my vacation.
onlyleigh Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 Hi Rinda10, thanks for sharing your experience. Did the clinic provide the translator or did you need to bring your own? Hi Nero, I mainly want to treat my dark circles, so it may involve a lower bleph and/or a fat graft. I am also considering a very fine love band... Hi Sevenseas, thanks for the info. Yeah I have read the same, I think I will be just hitting a number of the most recommend clinics and seeing which DR I feel most comfortable and who understands what I need - less is more type of thing. Yes that is me in my pic, although a little dirty, I had just done an assault course The only advise I can give you regarding the cost, is to find out how much people have paid for similar treatment and negotiate from there. From what I have been reading from this forum, having a translator will certainly bump the price up, so avoid where possible. Some clinics don't move greatly on price (again from what i have read) but if you have an idea of what other people have paid you have an idea if the price you have been quoted is inflated or not. I hope to be aiming for around 20/30% off any price quoted over the internet. I hope this helps.
rinda10 Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Hi, onlyleigh They have English translator, name is Jefferson.
odnok Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I'm afraid I'm not going to that clinic anymore. Sorry for the bad news.
onlyleigh Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Hi Sarah, I will happily report back on the clinic... Hi Odnok, do you mind sharing why you are not going to Everm now? Does anyone know if i can pick up a NANO sim card from South Korea Airport?
let-me-out Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Yes, there's two different size simcards available at Incheon airport and I believe nano is one of them. As soon as you exit the arrivals area you can find the simcards in the convenience store. You can't miss it as it's always the busiest shop.
odnok Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 After a long thought about it, I decided to not have a jaw surgery. I ended up deciding that I only need rhinoplasty.
ms-whitney Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I didn't want to start my own thread so I'm sorry if im high jacking or if this is even the right place Basically long story short is that my jaw is now misaligned because I've been breathing through my mouth versus my nose and so everything is kinda wacky even though on the outside it doesn't appear so (luckily) I'm doing a special night guard to try and get my jaw to align better, before placing a fake tooth (very last mortar on left side) But the dentist doesn't think it will make it so that my teeth is aligned correctly (so I can chew proper and not put so much pressure, more than usual, on the back mortars since I'm not chewing with my front teeth given the way my jaw is..) And says that we will try braces and if that doesn't work (he seems doubtful of that as we progress with my work) he is saying that I may have to do jaw surgery But he wants to avoid that since he says the way it's done, will have to work around the nerves and that it's difficult to do so without nerve injury.. I'm looking into the pros and cons, versus everything I've been through with my teeth..probably also ask about opening up my nose airway because right now if I only breathe through my nose it kinda hurts my lungs--funny how I never notice doing what I did (mouth and jaw slightly open to breathe that way) naturally to adapt to other inadequacies.Question: For those who are considering doing jaw surgery what has the plastic surgeon say about the possible side effects after?
