When I was looking for info related to clinics in Seoul, this forum provided invaluable input for my research. So I’m sharing my personal journey with you about my decision making process. I’m 50 years old with a sagging face. So my purpose was to find the best clinic for face lifting, plus perhaps riho. I’m a university lecturer in New Zealand with a middle class income. Because I plan to have surgery on my face, my ultimate goal was to find the most reliable doctor, not to save money, as I have been saving for years to prepare for the most scary surgery, which would be a present for myself. I can compromise for other material consumption but not for knife on my face. My selection criteria for the potential clinics were simple: 1. long establishment with stable doctors (this means reliable practice with no major accidents); 2. Doctors registered on boards with academic publications (these doctors are also exploring cutting edge theory and practice if they write research papers along with their clinic duties) 3. Reviews on forums. April 31 was the leader for number 1 and 2. Doctors in April 31 have been chair persons for Association/Society of Korean Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. April 31 had poor reviews on forums though. However, when I dug through the comments, I found two patterns: 1. there was very little positive comment about April 31. This could be a result of very few reviewers ever had experience with April 31. It could also mean that April 31 did not have to pay for professional bloggers to promote itself. There was no star marketing from this clinic. Maybe it does not need to engage in these methods to promote itself? Maybe it has already enough clients without promotion? 2. There was a great deal of negative comments about April 31, but it was overwhelmingly about the cost. There was no single substantiated comment about its quality on the forums. A friend of mine mentioned that her cousin in USA had a great eye lid surgery at a small clinic, and her eye doctor recommended a clinic for face surgery. Wow, I pressed my friend to contact her cousin to find out which was the clinic that was recommended by a peer doctor. It was again April 31. I contacted April 31 by sending my photos. Brian kindly sent me guiding prices for different options of face lift. Compared with other clinics Brian’s price was much higher but still acceptable. I contacted two agents asking them to obtain a quote from April 31. But the agents told me that April 31 was expensive. I was confirmed again that this clinic had enough clients and it didn’t even need to work with agents for more clients. Some people suggested a list with three or four clinics based on our research before going to Korea, and we can decide after face to face consultation in Korea. This method may work when you have a few clinics that looked similar so you needed more info or bargain in person. In my case I locked in April 31. When I met Brian, I was confirmed that I found the right clinic. Both doctor Lee (face) and Dr Kim (for nose) were very friendly and sharp. When I tried to fit my surgery, Brian told me that I could only have my surgery after 3pm because the doctors needed a good rest. That was another plus because doctors are not over worked. All went well with the surgery. When I woke up at 2am the first person I saw was dr Lee. It was at that moment that I decided I had to do something to promote this caring doctor and April 31. I’m still swollen as it’s only week 3 but I can already see my V line, elegant nose tip, and much younger face! Good luck with you all in your jouney.
