Just out of curiosity did anyone ended up smoking again after their plastic surgery?

Truth is, I'm a pretty heavy smoker myself and I don't know how I'm going to survive not smoking during my post op recovery. I will probably try my best to not smoke during my recovery period but I have a feeling I probably end up having a cigarette once in a while lol Which I know is bad for healing

Would be nice if I could see other people experience in this and how they dealt with it.

I do all the time. But i wait 3 months before I start again. Problem is I enjoy smoking. But I tell myself, "girl u gonna put yourself at risk for complications if you smoke". My method is using the e-cig with NO NICOTINE. I stop one month before surgery and 3 months after.

Also, what procedures are you having? Certain procedures and methods are more prone to complications should you smoke. eg. skin flap etc

Yeah same here with me, I actually enjoy smoking too.

I am planning to get a revision rhinoplasty. So ideally, I should really quit lol

Its not that big a deal if the method used is closed rhino. But open rhino requires far more circulation because of the damage to your collumela. So u should be mindful of that and really make sure ure body is nicotine free before undergoing surgery.

Hi ..

Like K mentioned , one month is the minimum req that Dream clinic states pre op ( I had mine in Dream) And 3 months post op. I know that we shouldn't bargain and play around with nicotine pre PS, but I was very nervous and ended up smoking more right up a week before the date of surgery. I had rhino and double eye lid. My sister did facelift . Nothing happened . My sister and I are not bleeding excessively nor recovering much slower . But thinking back, I must be crazy. I have not touch a single stick since . Like K mentioned , closed rhino is not as invasive as facelift. So I am healing very quickly. But I noticed that my sister 's fat graft ( to accompany her facelift) is not vascularing very well. And we both are 3 weeks post op. I don't know if this is due to the left over nicotine effect that's still circulate in her that effect her blood circulation, you just don't want to risk all your hard efforts .

I've heard of serious complications in smoking before surgery (blood clotting that could travel to the lungs)...hm but I've never heard about anything after surgery although I'd suggest to not to it immediately.

I work for a plastic surgeon and he recommends that the patient doesn't smoke one month post-op( abdominoplasty/tummy tuck) and 2 weeks after breast aug. The nicotine doesn't help with healing, it actually delays the process and can cause breakdown in the tissue. Some patients don't listen but they are fine, others it becomes a problem

lol peach at least u could stop it indefinitely. I'm a filthy chain smoker and I countdown till the days where I can smoke again. This time I took a month and a half off as opposed to 3 months like i usually do. I definitely notice my fat graft shrinking a little tho :S not good because 3 months is when the fg fully settles and whatever remains is mostly yours to keep.

You guys can try the e-cig. It works for me. Just be sure to use the no nicotine juice. For me its actually more the habit of having to grab a stick and blow
