Orthognathic 2jaw Surgery for health purposes

Recommended Posts

A little about me.

i am a 25 y.o male and i had extraction orthodontics done as a kid for crowding. I now have narrow airways sleep apnoea and tmj due to my teeth being retracted leaving no room for my tongue.

I was suggested bimax surgery from an oral maxillofacial surgeon to bring my jaws forward to increase my airways and create more space for my tongue.

Now i know most of you are here for cosmetic purposes but has anyone noticed any unexpected benefits from your surgery such as increased nasal breathing, better sleep, better sinuses, allergy symptoms, more energy?

I want to do my surgeries in korea as i cannot afford this sugery in america.

From what ive gathered here everm and the face clinics both have certified oral-maxillofacial surgerons

Does anyone know any other places i might want to visit?

Maybe someone that experience with sleep apnoea and tmj?

(Note i will still be going for consults with everm and the face, i just want to make sure im going about this the right way by finding and seeing as many surgeons as possible before booking tickets to korea)

Herecticx.

2-jaw surgery was invented for health purposes, not cosmetic! Are you in the States? Try finding a good insurance company that covers surgery, and have your doctor recommend it as necessary for daily functions (breathing, sleeping, eating, speaking, ect...)

You shouldn't have to pay anything out of pocket because it's a health-necessary surgery

* But please be careful- orthognathic surgery is usually major, and there are several methods of performing the surgery- make sure your doctor explains which is best for you, and get second and third opinions.
I caution you because I had a maxilla extension (1-jaw surgery? haha) and they put me in a 'rigid extraction device' for 3 months, I had 14 screws in my skull and 2 screws coming out of my face from the sides of my nose. They could have done it internally, which has lower complication rates, less scars, is easier to perform, and causes less pain. But the device was a more expensive operation, so they told me it was what I needed, and I believed them. This was in the United States.

Just be careful, and good luck! Let me know if you have any questions ^^
