jusscurious Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 A bit of an odd question but the titles say it all.. Would you be able to record your surgery? I'm quite fascinated to see how it's being done, on me that is.
jeet-dhindsa Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Good question. Some clinics allow for this, TL for instance has a real time monitoring system, so your friends or loved ones could watch it on an iPad. I know a few other docs who provide this service to assure patients they are the ones performing the surgery. It depends on how much notice you give. Last month one of my users asked me to watch her Zygoma revision at Regen. She really wanted me to make sure it was the doc she consulted with, I was worried about how graphic it would be, but it was actually really interesting to watch. There is current legislation on the table in Korea to make it mandatory to have CCTV in all surgery rooms, and to be able to provide this footage upon request of the patient.
jusscurious Posted September 9, 2015 Author Posted September 9, 2015 That's good to hear and also very assuring. Unfortunately that was hanging in the back of my mind aswell. Just to have a recording of what's going on while you're unconscious. This would also be very good news for people who are going through surgery by themselves too. I had read the article, I noticed it was posted back in February, did the legislation go through? I also don't exactly know what to make of the following quote, "Patients will also no longer be allowed to give consent for before-and-after photos to be taken or used by hospitals for advertising purposes, according to the ministry.". Does this mean that they'll be aloud to use your B&A photos however they choose without your consent? Or is it the other way round? They won't be aloud to use your B&A photos for advertising etc.
alanaf Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 It could mean that patient photos cannot be used as advertising or the hospitals have the rights to our pictures. I'm hoping its not the second one because that would be F'ed up. The first one would mean hospitals will only be able to use models and not patients for advertising purposes. I can foresee the hospitals making a huge fuss about the recording. Even if they have to hand it over according to the ministry when we ask I expect a long delay and much paper work to fill out

jeet-dhindsa Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 This is to prevent before and after pictures to be used in advertising.
jiaxo Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Another clinic I know of that offers real-time monitoring is Kies-U, I think they mostly specialize in breast augmentation.
hj88 Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 I must say it gave me peace of mind that the clinic I went to had this option available but really, if you even think you are going to need to rely on your surgery being video taped for your safety, I think you're at the wrong clinic. I certainly never bothered asking for the video from my surgery because I was 110% sure Dr Kim was definitely the person doing mine.
jusscurious Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 I see where you're coming from aha! but it's probably for precautionary measures if anything. You never know what might happen even if the practice has a good reputation. Ultimately for me and probably many others it'll also be a peace of mind aswell, just knowing that there is a videotape of what went down while you were unconscious is definitely something that will bring more comfort to people I think.
