Revision Rhino @Girin, Epicanthoplasty @Teuim

Epi: after I did my first round of surgery, I was like "maybe I should do epi." Pretty simple: my eyes are far apart and I have pretty severe epicanthal folds. Went to Teuim just because I've read a lot about them on this forum and I felt fairly confident that the doctor wouldn't mess up my eyes. I think I had pretty nice eyes already (people generally tell me they're my best feature) so I really didn't want that to happen. Dr. Kwon has a really abrupt manner... I was definitely kind of unsettled when I went there and he basically looked at my eyes for 30 seconds, told me that yes I was a candidate for epi. Very impersonal.

Process: More unpleasant than I expected. I've done facial contouring so I'm not a wimp, but it wasn't easy. Chose local anesthesia. It made me all loopy and there was tugging and cutting and it didn't hurt but it was uncomfortable.

Results: stitch removal, contrary to what I was told, was easy and painless. And despite his incredibly casual manner (I kid you not, when I went back to take the stitches out, he looked at me and the only thing he said was "you're very swollen" before peacing out) Dr. Kwon is a wizard with a knife. My eyes look beautiful. I'm very happy.

Final thoughts:

1) if you're considering going to Korea, you really don't need a translator. I speak no Korean, I can barely manage "annyeong hashimnikka," and I was fine. All the subways are labeled in English and enough people here speak it that you'll always be able to find someone to ask for directions.

2) Plastic surgery isn't a one-time thing. Even with the best surgeons, things can go wrong. If you're considering your first surgery, please make sure you're fixing something that really needs to be fixed, and be prepared that you might need to redo it. Even if you're happy, you might not be 100% happy, but rather 70% or 80% happy with the results. For me, I wasn't perfectly happy after my first rhinoplasty, but my nose post-op was still better than my nose pre-op. BE CAREFUL with your choice of clinic. Choose a place where lots of locals go. Do not be pushed into procedures that you aren't certain you want.

3) Do it for yourself. Surgery has made me prettier, but I looked fine before. No one in my life really notices, or cares, but *I'm* more confident. But it is a serious thing, and scary. I will say this: I will never do PS again unless something goes horribly wrong. Gonna try to avoid IVs/sedation/anesthesia for the rest of my life.

4) Less is more. I've spent a lot of time reading reviews and deliberating over this, and I think where a lot of people go wrong is that they don't know when to stop. If you do too many surgeries, you will look weird at some point. Just fix what you have to and live with the rest. It's a lot easier to do something than it is to undo it, especially when it comes to facial contouring. Think about it, you are compromising the structural integrity of your face. If you have prominent cheekbones, and straight-up remove them, it seems inevitable there will be problems down the road.

4) After my last thread people PM'd me for before/afters, but I'm not comfortable sharing those. The main reason I'm writing this is because before I went to Girin I'd read a lot of positive reviews, but also saw this one particular review (I think it was on realself) where this girl said they ruined her face and didn't take responsibility. That was really scary. I don't know what exactly happened in that situation, but I feel obligated to write about my positive experience because they've went above and beyond, fixed all the things I wasn't happy with. They've never recommended anything I didn't want to do. I'm not sponsored and I don't speak Korean so they weren't obligated to take good care of me but they did. And that means something. So, yep. Hopefully this was helpful.

and decided to have done rhinoplasty & lat eyes and ptosis correction at girin
