Can you do it yourself if the consultant is bad? I am so scared I might learn procedure before I go hehe.

Yeah I have tried to watch a few plastic surgery videos on Youtube.. then.. NOPE.. lol.

That must be pretty good for you, you can ask the medical team all the right questions at consultations. Who should I ask to meet then? Doctor, anaesthesist and nurses?

So the anaesthesist should stay with me for the whole operation then? That's why I want a clinic with a good safety record.. impatient to hear back from Hershe.

Hi Jess,

Yes you can take it out yourself. Its intravenous only, its not a PICC line where it requires a professional to do it. You just need to apply pressure to the site for 30 seconds to ensure you dont bleed. The luer should not stay more than 3 days, upon the 3rd day it need to either be changed to a new one, or just removed. But plastic surgery is acute, im sure itd be taken out on the same day, if not the following day.
Yes the anesthetists need to be present to monitor you through the procedure. You should ask to meet the doctor and anesthetist, you dont need to meet the nurses but you should ask them what they do for post-op. Ask them how you will be monitored if there will be a nurse that will keep an eye on you and check your vital signs periodically. Post-op is actually continuously checking, then back in the ward its every 30min, then its every 4 hours. I doubt plastic surgery clinics are that diligent, but they should atleast check regularly right after operation while the anesthesia wears off. You shouldn't go straight after surgery, i read some where that someone said they took the bus to go back to hotel while they are still all wobbly? omg that sounds very wrong?? That shouldnt happen lol.

Is there any chance they could take it out before I wake up? I have had cannulas 4 times before and always bruise

Thanks, I will. Do you reckon they usually have more than one anaesthesist if multiple surgeries are happening at the same time? ^^

Yeah, I heard a lot of places that are popular have really bad post op care. I definitely need nurses that can speak English in case of problems.

Omg what surgery was that for?? :S

Yes, it is used as an anesthetic, drug, horse tranquilizer, etc. Different clinics will use different drugs. You will have to ask each of them individually. For me, I would strongly prefer my DES to be done under local anesthetic only. When I had my primary surgery done in Canada I was given oral sedative pills too.

It is very hard to tell if these clinics have other anesthetists, especially if they are not listed in the clinic's staff profiles. And if they are not listed then you have to questions yourself are they legally medically trained to administer anesthesia.
Bruising at the cannula site is common since your vessel's damaged. Well, if you ask me cannulas should not be taken out before you wake up. It is for emergency purposes, say if a patient start to have abnormal vital sign changes, he/she require IV infusion of medications/ saline to stabilize the patient's condition. Not to mention blood loss, Cannulas are needed to do blood transfusions too. So ideally, Cannulas should not be taken out until you are ready for discharge, or the doctors no longer prescribe anything that require IV infusion. This shouldn't happen while you are still under the effect of anesthesia.
Oh about that experience i read, i think it's on this forum actually, somewhere. I think it was for a rhino.... But i think girl said something about the hard part is getting on the bus while still about dizzy or something. I was thinking...what!!?

Thanks. What is the best drug for them to use?

Same.. I might be getting double/square jaw done though so I need GA though haha

Oh.. so if I need the toilet or to walk around after surgery before discharge I have to go with the IV? I think I saw that on Qiu Qiu's blog lol. Another reason to check they have the nurses and that they are good. German nurses can be rough which is why I think I got the bruising.

Omg that is crazy. Must have been a factory clinic. What if she fainted :o

Hi Jess,

If you are put on IV drop then yes. Usually patients are because you fast for atleast hrs pre-op. So no water or food. After surgery, most people will have low blood pressure. So people are put on fluids to replenish. So usually you wont want to go toilet right after surgery but once your body recieve IV fluids for about 15-30min you will want toilet xD Ofcause depending how steady you feel on your feet by then, coz you may still be wobbly, you may need a nurse assist you walking to the bathroom. And then assist you back to bed.
Oh...you know...nurses from everywhere can be rough. lol

Hi,

Thanks. Do you have the IV drip till you are discharged then?

I forgot to ask btw, if I have high blood pressure should I try to reduce it before surgery? I have had it for a while now and I heard that you can get blood clots. I am already scared :P

True lol

hi Jess,

Idealy yes, IV drop are usually connected to you till discharge. It also depends on the type of surgery you have , so i dont know what they will do for plastic surgeries.
I suggest you visit your doctor before going to korea. High BP can cause blood clots, which is very dangerous. It depends on your individual status however, so i think you should see a doctor in Germany. This is why pre-op check is very important, doctors decide if the patient should take their blood pressure meds before surgery. Then post-op patients at risk of blood clots should be having Clexane which help to prevent blood clots. Some patients with very high risk have to have Clexane for a week after surgery. But that is for much bigger surgeries, and also im not sure what Korean plastic surgery post-op care is like. :/

Jessica - I'm not sure about sedation, but I would be uncomfortable with ketamine. Lidocaine seems like the standard for local anesthesia.

Thanks. I definitely will. I am worried about surgery safety anyway. If I can go on meds now and get low blood pressure before surgery that would be good.

I won't be on Purse forum for a few weeks but I will PM you if I hear back from Hershe

Thanks. I will look up the types of anesthestic before surgery as I don't want to wake up mid surgery.

Time for each consult and waiting in line varies by month (some seasons are more popular than others to get surgery in Seoul) and waiting in line I found depends upon the clinic that you choose. I just returned this past week from Seoul and had double eyelid (with ptosis and epi) and open rhinoplasty and I never had to wait in line for more than a few minutes at all of my clinic visits. I'll post a longer story of my experience soon.
