Beware "Swelling", an excuse for any botch

Recommended Posts

So I went to all the clinics I did procedures and tried to get them to explain to me what was going on. Immediately their warm attitude disappeared and they gave me crap like "oh your pictures aren't accurate, they lie" , "oh your face was assymetric before" and showed me pictures when there was no observable assymetry and now it's very obviously curved and tilted. And the best one I see all surgeons use - it's swelling, wait a year or two. Hopefully in a year you will give up on them and not hassle them for a revision.

Guess I'm on my own. Will probably need a revision with another doctor down the road....

Why don't you tell them you will reveal their name and ruin their business since they botched you and don't listen to your concerns? I don't think they can sue, plus they did the botching, so they are guilty..

To be honest, the whole legal system for clinics in Korea is extremely lax. Lots of China people have protested against certain clinics and nothing is really done. So there's not much one can do there.

I supposed you signed those papers stating that they don't have any responsibility etc if something happens to put it blatantly, those papers that you sign if you agree to their terms and conditions before surgery, so yeah that means you cannot do much. But if you tell them that they might change their ways. There was another forumer who got surgery in tlps and had no aftercare at all, not doctor visits either, and he wrote his review here and complained about that, and the people from tlps read his complaints and offered him aftercare, I suppose cause it gave them bad reputation (he then mentioned that he was taken care of)..

But if you are sure you are botched please give out their name cause they don't deserve to be protected..Even though I can suspect the name of the clinic from your words.

Also, there is a link where you can file your complaints but I can't find it right now, if I find it I will post it.

Take care

Do you have the link? Thank you

Also, I agree on the place you can file your complaints, I heard about it too. I think the Gangnam tourist centre for PS might be able to tell you where it is? If you're not in Seoul they are on FB I think

Eric, sometimes the clinics are right. Like I mentioned on your other thread, let the swelling go down before deciding revision or any legal action. If revision is needed, it has to come from the same clinics you did your procedures with, it should be part of the aftercare. Doing revision with an entirely different clinic will break the bank. Revisions typically cost much more than the original procedures. So if you spent 12K on the initial procedures, you could be looking at 20K for revisions. So do wait it out a bit before deciding.

I have to agree with Eric, unfortunately, swelling appears to be a catch all for surgical mistakes. Clinics seem to have no obligation after surgery, even if aftercare was discussed. The moment you express discontent all bets are off. While swelling can account for some discomfort, it doesn't give a clinic the right to disregard your concerns.

If you had rhinoplasty in SK, you may want to consider finding a local surgeon. Makes it a bit harder for them to avoid ya.

Unfortunately, yes, it's can sometimes be difficult to get a response from the clinic if we're overseas patients. 100% they will say it's swelling or will resolve over time if you raise your concerns within 6 months or less. After that they will say things like they didnt touch the area, there's already inherent asymmetry, and things like that. I'm not saying all are like that but a lot are like that. I experienced this myself too ...

One sign of a good clinic is if they point out their limitations.
For example, for my rhino pre-op consultation, the dr pointed out existing asymmetry of my nose and said that he won't be able to fix that (well he could, but it would be very invasive and I never noticed the asymmetry until he pointed it out anyway).

So yeah, I would be suspicious if a clinic suddenly said I had existing asymmetry if they never pointed it out pre-op. It's important to know and it can affect the procedure (ie. your procedure might be tweaked to fix that assymetry), so imo there is no excuse for a clinic suddenly saying 'Oh yeah you've always had assymetry, we just didn't mention it before'.

However, swelling really can be uneven. On Realself (vast majority are Western plastic surgeons in the US) they advise to wait at least 6 months, ideally a year before pursuing a revision. So this is not necessarily a sign of a shady clinic.

It is super annoying to see posts here or messages on Kakao about people worrying excessively about their results just 1 or 2 months after the procedure. It's plastic SURGERY, please do your research before getting into this. (Not talking about OP specifically here)

Absolutely, in your case it was a botched job and your clinic was being super shady. My last paragraph was just directed to other people I've seen around on PF who worry excessively about results too early.
