Hi all!

I'd like to know if I go to local clinics that are not popular among foreigners with a korean friend to help with translation and bargaining the price, is it possible to get a lower price than the prices that clinics usually charge foreigners?

I am thinking about hiring my korean friend to do the translation and help bargain the price for me.

Anybody has any experiences?

BTW, pls excuse my English if there's any mistakes or any confusion.

yes. Local clinics that do not often deal with foreigners, also do not have any sort of foreigner pricing. However, the reputable local clinics tend to start having many foreign patients. One example is Braun, then they have foreigner pricing. To be very honest with you, the number of famous clinics that are only known to local and not foreigners are low. Rich Chinese foreigners (who aren't on this forum) are very knowledgeable about clinics and go everywhere, and clinics start giving them VERY high prices (higher than english speaking). Also, you wont know how good the clinics are because of lack of english reviews. If you cannot communicate with the surgeon properly about what you want you're in trouble as well. Miscommunication can be fatal especially if you're doing major surgeries. If you totally do not know korean, I wouldn't really recommend visiting some obscure clinic. Cheap is good but surgeries can be lifelong and irreversible. If you screw up your primary, expect to pay about 2 times more for your secondary if you decide to do it at the famous international clinics instead the second time.

Make sure your korean friend is well-versed in surgeries or has done surgeries before. Complex terms such as radix cartilage grafting etc are often very difficult to translate for koreans that dont do surgery.

I just know that some clinics have foreigner price because they give different services compared with Korean.:smile:

If your Korean friend has no connections to the clinic or healthcare industry, then no. It won't help much. And going to a reputable clinic is far safer than an unknown. I'd advise against it.

I disagree. The concept of "service", where a business gives you free stuff for absolutely no reason, is one of those uniquely Korean things. In most cases, it's even expected. (You almost always get more time added on to what you pay for at karaoke, for example. And the only time I haven't had that is when I went with my Mongolian friend. -_-)
Sometimes, you just need someone there to go "서비스 없어요?" and make them realise that you expect more from them.

Haha it sounds so rude to say "서비스 없어요?". Makes you look like a very self-entitled foreigner. However, having a korean with you will bring some benefits at least. However the korean should not be one of those professional translator ones, or clearly seem like they are gyopo. Gyopo are not very highly regarded.

Some will. I was trying to be cheap at first. Than you hear all the sad stories. Psssh. I got a second job to save up the rest. Because in the end sweetie it is your face. Do not be cheap. Just save up. LOl View, the face dental. Mine Grand. Id and ect, will all still be there. Being cheap means 95 percent chance you get botched. Than I would have to fly all the way from the United States and grab there ass up. Pisses me off that some of these doctors and clinics are not properly train and still lie and botched people. Damn fools

Hey
If you go to a clinic that is not so popular among foreigners and you also bring a korean friend to translate and bargain for you then yes you get a better price

I'll tell you something. try not to look for the very first price, I mean the best deal when it comes to plastic surgery, it's your face your body, you want to do it once. Nobody wants a botched job
When the price is too suspicious, better not try it. As a student, I've always looked for the best price for almost everything. After hearing a story from a korean girl just now (2 days ago 10/08/2017) I thought I'd share it so you will be aware doesn't really matter in that case:
- She did plastic surgery 2 years ago in Gangnam
- She found a great deal of 2mil KRW for square jaw surgery (which is crazy since the usual price is around 4mil~7mil for jaw only)
- She had a very short consultation that lasted around 5minutes with the director. the clinic was very busy and the doctor has a lot of surgeries scheduled.
- She said she wanted to use the long curve method to improve her upper jaw
- 2 years after she's still waiting for results, but nothing.
- When she touches her jaw, she doesnt' like anything has changed. so she asked the clinic, and the clinic showed her the pictures of the bone they cut.
- The girl think they didn't do anything and they just showed her someone else's bone.
- she said no to go to that hospital (she didn't share the name) so you can save time and money and be safe

Bringing a korean friend is a good idea though for bargaining and translating

Overall I think good deals are okay. So good deals, not best deals
The girl didn't feel any pain, but it could be worse than just not getting the results
Please be safe
