teeteetee Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Hi all, I've been looking around this forum and on clinic websites extensively. While I agree that the majority South Korean nose jobs turn out beautifully, I'm not sure if they have what I am looking for. The clinic that produces results closest to what I want is MVP. I have a wide alar base and my columella lines up with my alar base, if that makes sense. These are the things that I would like to have fixed: - bridge augmentation - tip plasty for bulbous nose - extend my columella - alar base reduction My concern is with the last two: from the pictures that I've seen, there doesn't seem to be much lengthening of the columella. With alar base reduction, most of the "before" cases don't have that much of a large nostril to begin with and for those that did, the nostrils looks a bit to squished in. In addition, I don't think "alar wall raising" or "'nose lift" is really a thing in Korea. I'm afraid I won't explain it properly so I've attached a small image that I drew haha. It's basically a side view of a nose and I would like the side nasal lines to be thinner. I came across these two clinics: http://www.wangmd.cn/english/rhinoplasty/Before_and_After_Photos/index.htmhttp://www.cosmeticplasticsurgery.ph/gallery/rhinoplasty/ I'm really impressed that they've incorporate everything that I wanted into their results but I'm a bit wary of doing surgery in another country other than Korea.... Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
twocupcakes Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Dr. Wang Ting (the first link) is famous for doing noses. He specialises in using rib cartilage for augmentation rhinoplasty. A possible red flag, though, is that he trained with Dr. Jung at Shimmian, who has some awful reviews. I find his aesthetics are a bit too Western-ish for my tastes, but that's just a personal preference. There are also a couple rhinoplasty specialists in Taiwan who are very well regarded as well. Dr. Kao and Dr. Ryan Hsu are probably the most well-known (both also prefer using autologous materials for the nose), but so many Taiwanese plastic surgeons have terrible websites that look like they were made in 1999. I guess their reputations must come from word-of-mouth... But thanks for starting this thread! Sometimes I think this forum can be too Korea-focused, meaning we're forgetting about all the other talented plastic surgeons outside of Seoul.
celavive Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Hi teeteetee, me too. Am looking at MVP as well as Wangting.. I followed wanting wangting weibo as well as added their wechat but haven't start any conversation with them yet. I find a little confused because I went to read old thread at asian nose job thread #3 and there is user called arts supposed to go wang ting there do her nose and asking how to prepare, food etc in china. Suddenly no updates from the user. Not sure if the surgery a success or not. The thread is too long and i stopped at 60++ pages... of cos i didnt read the previous old thread #2 and #1. Correct me if am wrong, dont think there is any user who did their nose share their experience here yet right? I cant read chinese so had no idea how to search the chinese forum... anyone had any idea?
teeteetee Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 Hi twocupcakes! Thanks so much for letting us know about the red flags. I've read bad reviews about Shimmian but I had no idea that he was trained with Dr. Jung. It's a shame though, because a lot of pictures from the nosejung website look promising I haven't looked into Taiwanese doctors yet but I have heard some users mentioning Taiwanese PS from time to time. I found a few websites that blogged their experience at Dr. Ryan Hsu's clinic. The results are very natural if anyone is interested at taking a look!http://bignosee.blogspot.com.au/http://missuglynose.blogspot.com.au/2010/01/day-7-big-day.html
teeteetee Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 Hi celavive! I haven't seen many updates from users who have done their surgeries outside of Korea. If they did, they would ask you to PM them but those users have been inactive for a few months. I've used the search tool to look up Dr. Wang Ting's name as a keyword but no recent updates. Edit: Whoops, I meant to link # She's a user who detailed her experience with Dr. Wang.
teeteetee Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 I recently found another clinic that specializes in alarplasty. I should've named this thread differently :\ Maybe "Rhinoplasty in other Asian countries" since it's a bit difficult to come by reviews for non-Korean surgeons on this forum. Anyway, here is the link for anyone who's interested! http://www.theiconclinic.com/face.html#facegallery
teeteetee Posted November 14, 2017 Author Posted November 14, 2017 I ultimately did mine in Korea. At first I wished my result was more dramatic but I'm now glad that it turned out natural! I still look like myself but the change is still noticeable
papermoon12 Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 I had my rhinoplasty with Dr. Wang using rib cartilage graft three years ago. After being shocked by the dramatic results initially, I was extremely depressed. 3 years later, I am OK with the results but getting a revision is always in the back of my mind. I can speak to his skill to lengthen the nose, heighten the bridge. I think you will have great results if you have significant underprojection and a very low bridge. But I was happy with the height of my bridge and simply wanted to lengthen the tip with a very subtle change. I brought many reference photos and a very clear photoshopped before and after of my profile. When I sat down with him we did a rendering in Photoshop and I specifically asked that height NOT be added to my bridge, I simply wanted to lengthen the tip. I'm Chinese and I emphasized that I did NOT want a western nose. Well surprise surprise, this was not the result I woke up to. I was very clear with the results I wanted but Dr. Wang definitely took creative liberties to give me a very Western nose. If this type of dramatic change is what you want, then he may be a good fit for you, but ultimately I think it's important to have trust in your doctor that he will work towards the result you discussed prior to surgery. This definitely was not my experience and for that reason I can't recommend him. I've combed through Realself and a number of Asian websites, I feel conflicted about whether to choose a Western or Asian rhinoplasty surgeon if I do decide to undergo a revision one day. On one hand I WANT to trust that Asian surgeons will be more skilled in handling an Asian rhinoplasty on the other I appreciate the more conservative approach of Western surgeons who may help me achieve a more "natural" result.
teeteetee Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 Hi Papermoon, I'm so sorry to hear that you went through that ordeal. Now that it has been 3 years, do you still feel like revision is something you will do eventually? I had kind of the opposite experience as you in terms of changes. I went to MVP in Seoul for my primary rhinoplasty. Even though I researched Dr. Wang's clinic because the dramatic changes looked so good, I wasn't really sure if it would be suitable for me. I wanted to still look like myself but have natural but noticeable changes. I had bridge aug (5mm! but I had virtually no bridge beforehand), tip refinement and alar reduction. I had to melt away my fillers in my nose as well. In the few days following surgery, I was kind of upset because my nose looked short and upturned. Even though I've read quite a few recovery experience threads, it was like all the tips I learned flew out the window haha. Experiencing it yourself is pretty different, right? The consultant told me that swelling goes from top to bottom but I was reluctant to believe that it would look better because I was so caught up with how my nose looked right then and there. I was already searching for revision clinics T_T When the cast came off though, it looked a lot better although the tip was still a bt swollen. By the time I got home for work, I could tell that people thought I looked different but couldn't pinpoint what part. Fortunately, it's been a year and I am happy with my nose. My parents also really like it, too. I see the most change in my tip - it's more defined but not pointy. The alars aren't pinched either. Dr. Seo also extended my columella a little and I see that change especially when I smile. I think he did a good job at keeping a balance between preserving your look and giving a natural change. I hope this helps a little!
