ohaiolos Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone here has underwent rhinoplasty under local anaesthesia or twilight sedation? If so, did you wake up in the middle of the op and how conscious/aware were you? I don't want to wake up or be conscious during rhino so I'm worried about LA/twilight sedation but I'm looking for other options apart from GA.
twocupcakes Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Twilight anaesthesia doesn't put you to sleep. You're still conscious during the procedure and can follow instructions, but you're typically administered a benzodiazepine as part of the sedation which triggers anterograde amnesia. So, basically, you won't remember any of the surgery and for a short time after.
k-couture Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 eh depends what type of twilight anesthesia. That's just a general name they use. If Ketamine is used you will be very drugged up and wont know what is going on but you will still be conscious. If propofol is used you will pretty much be knocked out and not in the dream state. Ketamine can be used for twilight anesthesia/sedation but not for General anesthesia. Propofol can be used for both types and whichever is used the anesthesiologist will adjust the strength of the dosage
ohaiolos Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 If propofol is used as a sedation are there any chances of waking up in the middle of the operation?
jennie0906 Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 I recommend twilight anesthesia what the clinic I went for rhinoplasty called sedation. It was great, and I didn't feel any pain, and rhinoplasty was almost done by the time the anesthesia was almost done working on me. But I heard that 1~2 out of 10 people don't really like the experience of feeling like they're on a roller coaster. I was super scared after hearing that but my experience was good.
ohaiolos Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 I was worried about experiencing that 'roller coaster' trippy feeling as well but hopefully it won't be too bad. This makes me feel a little more at ease hahaha. Thanks Jennie!
k-couture Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 the roller coaster trippy feeling is from ketamine. First time it was really like a rollercoaster, albeit a very slow moving one. The second time I think they used a higher dose on me i believe and I was like....questioning my existence. It was so weird but at the same time i kept thinking to myself "wow the architecture in korea is so pretty" then i woke up and chucked up. That was it. On propofol I don''t believe you will wake up and will keep remaining in that semi conscious sleep state. No trippy rollercoaster feeling on propofol.
ohaiolos Posted November 8, 2016 Author Posted November 8, 2016 Hahaha, that does sound like quite an experience! Thanks K Couture, I think I may opt for propofol if suggested!
