atomgrrl Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Hi everyone, I used this forum to help me plan my PS trip to Seoul, so I wanted to do my part to share my experience so far. Full disclosure: I’m not being sponsored; just a regular person who researched and paid my own way. I arrived earlier this week and did two days of consultations (I’ll be posting separately about that in case that’s helpful) before deciding on day 2 to go with GNG Hospital. It came down to two clinics for me. In the end I chose GNG because of the consultations I had. Before arriving in SK, I was really concerned about securing a surgery date, especially coming from abroad you have no clue whether every place is going to be busy, but I found doing the in-person consultations to be invaluable information gathering. I was lucky to be able to get a surgery date with Dr. Kye for eyes and Dr. Seong for primary rhino.PRE-OP DAY The day before surgery, I had my blood taken, my heart rate monitored and pee in a cup. Since all the pre-op tests are done in the hospital (rather than outsourced, which is the case with many clinics), that made it easy for me and the results came back within three hours. I also got my photo taken at the Sears Portrait Studio (I kid!). There's a photo station, where one of the nurses takes your “before” photos from the front, side, 45-degree angle and from chin up. I also put down a deposit (please note: I won’t be sharing the price of my surgeries because once you do your consult with the doctors they will have a more precise surgery plan that differs from the quote. So my surgery plan won't be the same from yours.) Then I went home and was told to get a good night’s sleep and to start fasting (as in no food, water, tiny little Altoid or anything from midnight on).SURGERY DAY I arrived one hour ahead of my 10 am surgery. I paid for the balance of my surgery. Met one more time with my doctors to go over the surgery plan. Dr. Kye (pronounced “Kay”) was my under eye blepharoplasty (I have dark circles and slight baggage, so to speak) and fat graft surgeon. And Dr. Seong (pronounced “Song”) was my primary rhino to do bridge augmentation with ultra soft silicone, tip plasty and osteotomy. I saw Dr. Kye first, then Dr. Seong, who reassured me by grasping my hands and laughing when I wished him luck and myself some luck. Next I went up to the eighth floor into my patient room to change into my hospital clothes and wash my face. I was taken to the 7th floor (I think) and did one final pre-surgery procedure: the air chamber and then passed through to the surgery room. Two nurses were moving at a lightning pace around me, then the female anesthesiologist showed up with the mask. Hazel, who was standing outside the surgery room told me to breathe deeply into the mask. That was the last thing I remember.POST-OP I woke up to the sounds of some dude moaning in the post-op patient room. My vision was still blurry and I was a little disoriented but as soon as I regained consciousness I remember seeing Dr. Seong’s smiling face and hearing Hazel voice calling me. I was sat up and put into a wheelchair. Like a video game, I was wheeled at what felt like lightning speed back to my room. When I was put into bed and looked at the clock, it was 6 pm! My post-op face wasn’t too terrible: light green bruising around the eyes and a nose cast and general puffiness. I remember my heels really feeling sore. I was so fixated by my heel pain that I temporarily forgot my mouth was really dry and my throat felt a little sore. I was told I could drink water at 7:10 pm and eat at 9 pm. Most of the time, I was in a daze, watching the clock in my room until I could drink water. Hazel stayed with me for a while, which I appreciated. Later I was served pumpkin porridge came for dinner. Even though I couldn’t taste it, I still downed it like a boss. Then I got a IV drip of painkillers at 11 pm to help me manage the pain, which was mostly a dull ache in my nose and went to sleep. I couldn't imagine going back to the place I was staying after surgery, and very appreciative I got to stay overnight at the hospital and let the nurses take care of me. Hazel told me everything went according to the surgery plan, and that I was her first patient to come to from general anesthesia very gently, like waking up after a good dream. Haha, I’ll take that as a compliment. I’ll post again about my post-op care.

atomgrrl Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 Hi Dailyjubes87 I hope it helps anyone considering PS in SK because I knew nothing about, oh, four months ago until I started researching here. So I consulted with both Drs. Seong and Hong, two of the three rhinoplasty surgeons at GNG. To be honest, I liked both doctors a lot and it was a tough choice. Both doctors recommended a similar surgery plan, which was to raise my bridge with an ultra thin silicone implant and to provide more definition and projection to the tip using septal cartilage (the cartilage that is in your nose). Both doctors told me some of my limitations, which is that I have thin skin, so putting in a very large implant (anything above 3 mm) wasn't advisable as that would look unnatural and obvious. I'm pretty certain if I had chosen Dr. Hong my nose would have been in equally capable hands. I had good consults with both and both took a long time listening to my concerns and answering my questions, which was three-pages long (lol). I would say I spent at least 20 minutes speaking to each doctor. In the end, I picked Dr. Seong because he's the director of the clinic and he mentioned custom carving the implant so it would start thin and build up as it got to the tip. Sometimes it's one piece of info that sticks with you. I'm certain Dr. Hong would have done the same, but I had to make a decision! Hope that helps.
