candygems Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Hi everyone, I'm writing to share my virgin experience undergoing surgery in Korea.. I first consulted at Wonjin on my last trip, but did not do the surgery as I did not cater for enough down time. The doc (Dr Kim) back then spoke really good English and it was helpful that he explained in detail what he planned to do for my nose. This time round I tried going back but Dr Kim had left Wonjin, so I went to Ruby instead. There was a translator assigned to me and I consulted with Dr Hu, the representative surgeon. I brought pictures to show what I like and don't like, so I think the doc has a pretty good idea of what I am looking for. Price wise I didn't think I got a good price, firstly because I used a wrong exchange rate and hence didn't bargain hard enough. It was much more expensive as compared to WJ, because with WJ I didn't confirm the surgery immediately and left the clinic to consider first. They texted me after that to offer a better discount to try to persuade me to confirm. I guess if you are concerned with price, don't appear too eager to confirm and don't confirm immediately. My surgery was scheduled the following day. After cleaning my face I was brought to the op theatre, where I was given sedative anaesthetic. I actually hallucinated like I was on drugs! Then I was knocked out and when the surgery was over and I woke, I was brought to a resting room. Some time (few hours?) passed before I finally was sober enough to leave. There was no pain after the surgery and in the days that followed, just some discomfort especially with blocked nose. The next day I went back to change my dressing, and the translator informed me that when the doc cut my nose up, he found a dent on the bridge, which he had to then use an artificial dermis to fill up before he could place the silicon on top. I wanted to know more about the options there were, what brand / type of dermis they used, and if they were any risks involved with using dermis + silicon etc. As expected, the details were vague and they assured me that there are no risks. As with most Korean surgery, you go with good faith and pray for the best. Hence it is very important to go to a doctor and clinic that is reputable. Reviews online are often scattered all over the place so do take your time to do research and don't rush into things! Go with questions prepared, otherwise the consultation will be really short. Overall I'd say it has been a pretty good experience with Ruby, except for the fluff relating to the dermis. Otherwise the translator has been really helpful, and the doc is nice and friendly too. Can't wait for the shape to settle so that I can see how I look after the surgery!
candygems Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 What they don't tell you about rhinoplasty.... After my own surgery I discovered that there were many small experiences which people typically don't talk about, so am sharing here as well. On the first day, the doc would stuff cotton balls into both nostrils, to absorb the bleeding, so you can only breathe through your mouth. Despite the cotton balls (like a long long strip of it), the bleeding doesn't quite stop, and your nose will be leaking blood like it's having period on an overflowing pad. It's true. I had to clean the leaking blood quite often with tissue, otherwise they'll drip onto my clothes / into my food etc. This went on for about 2 days before the bleeding really lessened to not need constant cleaning. It was such a relief after they removed the stuffed cotton on the second day, but the nose continued to be blocked with mucus / blood coming out every now and then. I was told the blocked nose might continue for up to a month, but after a week it becomes quite manageable. Because of my dermis fiasco (or maybe some other reason unexplained to me), the doc had asked me to go back for follow up on 3 consecutive days after my surgery. I didn't mind that, and enjoyed the fact that someone would clear my stuffy nose everyday. The clinic also shone some light on my face for a few minutes every time I was there, as part of their de-swelling care programme.
candygems Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 7 days after my surgery, I returned to the clinic again to remove stitches and the plastic cover the doc had stuck over my nose to keep it intact. The nose looked horrifying and was asymmetrical because the swell actually subsides at different rate on each side. So as of now, one nostril looks bigger than the other, and my nose literally looks like a bird's beak. My friend who had prior experience with rhinoplasty already warned me of that so I didn't freak out. In fact my swelling is actually not as much as many others, but I still find that I look like an alien. Remember to cater enough down time when you are doing your surgery! By now I also learned how to clean my nostrils with cotton buds and saline so even the blocked nose doesn't bother me. I'm returning to Korea in Feb for a final follow up, and will update again! PM me if you need any info.
annlai Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 @candygems Hi! I’d like to know if Ruby is good at double eyelid surgery. Please share if you have information. Thank you!
versible Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 Hey @candygems congratulations on your surgery! Hope you healing well did you stay overnight in the hospital or they straight sent you back to your hotel? How was the aftercare?
cy61 Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Hey @candygems how is your nose now? I’m off to Seoul in mid January for a rhino and just curious about your experience so far xx
miame44 Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 I heard a lot of bad works had come out of Ruby Clinic. Make sure do your research well. I would avoid this place. Do not go to Wonjin either. I have the worse experiences there. And recently people die trying to be pretty in plastic surgeries at Wonjin and the worse part? The doctor you see might not be the one performing the surgeries on you. Very scamming place. Way overpriced for a place needs much-updated devices. Is very old not clean. If in the US is already been, band!
annlai Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 Hi @miame44 May I ask what have you heard abt Ruby? Is it for eyes or nose surgery? Thanks!
miame44 Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 I heard the most is the nose. The Rynoplasty is not very well done. I heard and seem a lot of people complaint at the end result. And indeed need a revision. Do more research. And read more reviews. As For me, I don't follow the Clinics. I follow the Doctors.
annlai Posted December 31, 2017 Posted December 31, 2017 @miame44 Would you please share your list of eye specialist doctors? Thanks!
