Ok, so like many, I've wanted to make small changes to my nose for a while now. Not that I deemed myself ugly or anything along those lines, I just realised at around 18/19, that whenever I took a picture, the first thing I looked at was my nose. When I took pictures with my friends or family, I would turn to the side to avoid the front view, or equally never smiled because I was conscious my nose would spread.

Originally from London, I've live in Seoul for nearly 2 years, and to my knowledge Korea is known to have some of the best surgeons and clinics in the world. It's not uncommon here to see women walking down the street mid afternoon, bandaged or puffy faced. And forever curious, I finally opted to take the plunge and do it!

The Kim HyunSeok clinic is located in Apgujeong, and I was directed there by Seoul Cosmetic Surgery. Prior to surgery I had a consultation with the doctor, who sat and felt my nose. I noted the way he took time to observe my facial features, as well as feel my nasal bridge bone. After which he told me what procedure he thought I would need, and asked what I was unhappy with about my nose. All information both verbal and written was translated for me.

D DAY....
I went in a t 10am, spoke to the clinic consultant, got changed and had the nurses poke around and weigh me, take pictures etc. Again, I met with the doctor, who clarified how I wanted my nose to look. After 'designing' my nose, by marking lines on my face. He sat patiently while I swiped through my phone to show him images. Initially he had spoke about pinching the tip, but when I told him I had changed my mind, he took onboard my request and didn't force the issue.

While super scared, I tried to keep a cool face. The nurses kept asking if I was nervous because I apparently looked so straight faced. But to be honest, I was more concerned with the sleep sedation aspect of the surgery. On reflection, it sounds rather stupid but I was frightened of waking up mid way through him carving my nose!

Obviously, that didn't happen, in fact if felt like a really long nap. When I woke up I was beyond incoherent. I couldn't stand up, there was 4 of EVERYTHING in the room. For the next 1 and a half hours I lay trying to shake off the double vision. The poor staff, had to mop up my vomit, while guiding me too and from the bathroom. As I later found out from my sister, I may have had a bad reaction to the sedation drug. Both her and my mum had similar experiences after surgery, and reckon it's a 'family thing.' The juries still out on that! lol

I arrived at 10am and left by 3pm...After vomiting all over my hospital bed and their floor. And for the next 48hrs, I would be lying if I said it wasn't uncomfortable. Although not IN pain, it was A pain to have to sleep upright, with my mouth open. The cotton mouth was REAL! Koreans' swear by pumpkin juice to reduced swelling, so I drank til I could drink no more. And as luck would have it, the only part of my face that swelled up was my eyes. All in all the most painful part was my ear, where they had taken cartilage and added it to my nose.

1 WEEK ON...
My nose is still swollen, especially at the tip, and feels like a numb extra component to my face. The splint/cast was removed on the 5th day and the stitches removed today (a week after surgery). It's only been a week and I can't explain how happy I feel. From the staff at the clinic, to the lovely medical tourism company I went through, (Seoul Cosmetic Surgery) to the doctor himself, I was treated with such care. They did nothing but make me feel comfortable and at ease. Western beauty standards differ to that of the Far East. Plus, Korea has so many hospitals & clinics, some good and some great, but having the resources, (especially as a woman of color) to help navigate and communicate what I wanted was vital. I'm grateful for the clinics in house foreign liaison, who was able to translate what I was saying. And equally Seoul Cosmetic Surgery for helping me choose the right clinic.

Literally, keep looking at myself in disbelief. And I am even more excited to see the healing process, and I'm in fact extremely impatient. I really want to see the final shape of my nose. Will keep y'all updated!

Hello Seouled2018. Thanks for being a brave lady and sharing your experiences. You look great and can't wait to see final results. Thanks for sharing information. I imagine facial, nose and eyelid are very popular. I would like to learn more about jawline myself.

Those results look great so far! They'll look even better overtime after the swelling goes down. I am also interested in getting rhinoplasty in South Korea.

I can't get to the link, it's not working for some reason?

Your results look great. Did you consult with other clinics before choosing Kim Huyn Seok clinic? This seems to be a very new clinic - I've never heard of it before. I wondered how you had confidence going ahead with your surgery without seeing any reviews from previous patients?

Hey, so living in Korea I guess sort of means I have a few more resources available to me, in that I can roughly understand and read some of the language (a lot better than I can speak it). This doctor use to work at Dream for over 10 years. Dream is one of Koreas top clinics. Once I was told this, it was easy to find reviews on him and his previous work. I also asked a Korean friend to research for me, and she confirmed that he also performed a lot of eyelid surgery as well as noses.
I consulted privately with other clinics before hand, but didn't like the conveyor belt style of consultation & procedure, it felt cold. Which is when I decided to go through Seoul Cosmetic Surgery. I liked that this clinic was small and fairly new, and his reasons for leaving Dream and starting his own clinic, were because he wanted to interact with the patients more. Even though this clinic is still in it's prime, I have noticed it is never without a patient waiting when I go there!

.....Hey, so I found out about this clinic through Seoul Cosmetic Surgery, a medical tourism concierge service.
You are right in that it is a very new clinic, but the doctor himself has been doing surgery in some if the best clinics in Seoul for over 15 years. The whole idea of the concierge service is that they eliminate the difficulties of communication for you. Seoul Cosmetic Surgery direct you to a variety of clinics that you can have consultations with and choose from. And one of the founders of the company can translate Korean to English for you.
