hautelady Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Has anyone tried chemical peels? What type works for a olivey-skinned asian? I was initially thinking of getting laser before surgery but I heard it's not good for not-so-fair-skinned like me. If you've done it in the US, please let me know the type of peel and downtime.
jsorchid Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 I have had chemical TCA at home using 20% strength. Down time can be 5-7 days and it’s pretty scary and you should avoid the sun like a plague. I tried once glycolic acid 70%, which was too strong and reacted very badly. I looked terrible for one month. However TCA, I used once a year for several years. Since I am older now, I prefer going to a clinic which uses milder acid but the down time is still 5 days. My daughter refered me as a dark skinned Korean, my skin held up well due to having oily skin but had acne problems as a teenager. I have never had problems with hyper pigmentations even with glocolic acid which made me look like a burn victim. After the skin peel, my skin glows and feels very refreshed. I am not advising you but sharing my experiences, everyone has very different reaction to the acid and the types of acid. If you want to try, use very low strength and may want to try a small area. Now I prefer micro needling done at a spa which helps skin regenerate without down time.
hautelady Posted May 11, 2018 Author Posted May 11, 2018 Thanks jsorchid. That's a lot of good first-hand experiences from you. Yes, being in the late forties , the skin takes a beating due to decreasing hormones, skin elasticity, etc and I cannot afford to experiment on stuff since my skin will not recover sooner than a 20/30 year-old. So glad you responded as we are of the same-skin/age group. I wonder how the ahjummas (korean older women) keep their skin so baby-like. I have yet to find a youtube video of an older asian having skin treatments. I watched some bloody microneedling sessions on youtube. And there's also Microneedling with PRP , PRP being your blood anyways. Some hollywood stars are raving also about a korean facial hanacure like Drew Barrymore. It did not seem to be a paid ad for her but nowadays, I don't know for sure.
