Does anyone here have experience going for PS while on medication for depression or other mental illness?
Did you have to stop taking your meds for a period before surgery or anything like that?

Before anyone says “don’t get ps if you’re mentally ill!”, this isn’t some impulse discussion for me, I know what procedures I’ve wanted for over 6 years now (I’m 27 now... sigh)and I don’t want a huge change, just to fix jaw asymmetry, wide and crooked cheekbones and my wonky nose lol

So has anyone else gone through ps while in a similar situation?

I’m on Prozac and Lamictal

While I havent had major plastic surgery. And I'm not sure in regards to Korean medical guidelines. Given lamictal and prozac are mood stabilizers and are important to your day to day function. I would say keep taking them. They're also medications that should be stopped suddenly. You'll need to tell the anaethetists that you're taking the medications when you go for consultation. You'll need to ask your treating health professional advise in regards to this.

Hiya!

I’m on prozac as well! I had mandible angle reduction about 2 years ago. If I remember correctly, I was told to stop taking my meds (birth control & prozac) about a week before surgery.

Oh god yeah if I suddenly stopped taking them I would not have a good time (especially the lamictal its super dodgey to suddenly stop). I would of course tell the Dr at consultation because I know so many meds can be dangerous af when they put you under, I was just wondering if anyone else was in th same boat and knew about maybe coming off them before surgery.

Ah sweet! Did you start taking them soon after the surgery again?

Can’t remember correctly
I’m sure I did
But it should be no big deal! Just ask the clinic because I think some require you stop taking your meds 2 weeks before surgery :hrmm:

I'm relieved that finally someone has written about it. I too had mental illness but brain medications always gave me side effects such as convulsion, heavy head, nausea & losing sense of direction, hence, i stopped them all once n for all. I don't take any brain med now so i guess i'd be fine during surgery.

Thanks for creating this post

I had a question about this too. I'm hoping to get a non incisional DES done when I'm in Korea in June which means they will probably only do local anesthesia on me (not general)... I take seizure meds because I have mild epilepsy and my doctor has told me I am absolutely not allowed to stop taking my meds and I cannot get general anesthesia. Anyone have insight on this, AKA do you think I will be okay since I'm just getting the non incisional method?

Ah, thank you so much for bringing up this topic. I'm on medication too. For allergies. Hope I won't need to stop them, at all or not for too long at least
