honii Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 I know that I will be able to ask at the clinic, but I wanted to hear anyone's experiences here first, about v-line surgery (long angle reduction) and braces! I was wondering, has anyone ever needed braces again after v-line surgery..? Or just a new retainer maybe? I'm not sure if the surgery affects teeth movement at all. I was also wondering, it would be dangerous to do v-line surgery when you still have braces, correct? Also, does anyone know if it is better to get v-line surgery before or after braces..? I want to wait until I am finished with braces before getting the surgery but I just wondered if anyone has any experiences getting v-line surgery whilst they have braces... Sorry if any questions seem dumb! I know it will be best to ask at the clinic, but I just want to hear people's experiences first
mlydzz Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 I forgot if you could have vline with braces on or not but i can tell you what i know. Vline doesnt affect your teeth at all. But i had it after years of taking off my braces anyways. You could honestly have vline before or after the surgery it doesnt really matter honestly but if it's before then you might want to recover first and be able to open your mouth wide enough for braces ofc
daysuntilpretty Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Not sure if I can help much but I wear invisaligners (they’re clear retainer like but are like braces) and I had surgery while I was on them (I’m still using them). However, I only had mandible angle reduction so they only touched the angle of my jaw and not my chin! But still it did not affect my teeth at all and my orthodontist didn’t even notice or mention anything about my teeth moving or the scars inside my mouth
searchforcute93 Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 This might be a rare case - but I have permanent retainers on my bottom middle teeth and top two middle teeth. For some reason, after I came out of my v-line surgery, my top-two middle teeth shifted to the right. I believe this was due to extreme swelling in my gums. It's not noticeable to anybody but me (very small movement) so that might be something to consider.
honii Posted June 24, 2018 Author Posted June 24, 2018 Ok, thank you for sharing!I'll consider this too!
