Third Time's A Charm? (Revision eyes, nose, lip, jowls)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just another plastic surgery experience post. This will be my third time getting surgery and I'll record my "journey" here. Whether you will believe it or not, I have NOT been paid or sponsored by any clinic.

Plastic Surgery History:
Grand Plastic Surgery

I had my first procedure in 2012 at Grand Plastic Surgery. All I have to say about my experience here is that hindsight is 20/20. It was my first time and I wasn't that experienced with plastic surgery. I didn't know what to look for in a clinic or doctor. I was easily intimidated and my time to get surgery in Korea was very limited. I found Grand via web search and a forum post. Their pictures looked good enough to me so I just decided to go here. The price was not worth the result in the end. Later down the line I hated my nose and eyes. The doctor did very conservative surgery. I did non-incisional double eyelid surgery + epi and rhinoplasty using my own septal cartilage. My eyelids were crooked and droopy, and I believe the doctor should have done ptosis correction (at the time since I was a newbie to surgery I didn't know what ptosis correction was). My nose was not extended enough and still short enough where my nostrils still showed prominently.

DA Plastic Surgery:
My second plastic surgery experience was at DA in 2016. Overall my experience here was way different than Grand. I felt like there was a bit more individualized attention rather than being livestock ready for slaughter. I think the English consultants Sky and Sarah at the time made a huge difference because they were really great (they're no longer working there). I think if you're a foreigner going to Korea for surgery, a huge part of your surgery experience depends on the English consultant guiding you through it all. This time I received revision double eyelid surgery (incisional), epi, canthoplasty, ptosis correction, revision rhinoplasty (donor cartilage), genioplasty, jaw shaving, and fat grafting. The thing I like about DA is that there's a specialist doctor for each area. I had consults with three different docs: one for eyes, one for nose, and one for chin/jaw. The results were really great, but again over time my nose went lowered and wasn't as dramatic. Plastic surgery isn't a one and done thing usually. You have to maintain it over time, that's why you need to think long and hard if you really want to get it in the first place. The reason why I'm not going back? Nothing insidious about the clinic, but I just want to try somewhere new. Also, Sky and Sarah aren't there anymore, but I'm sure the current English consultants are perfectly nice.

August 2018:
I have been in contact with several clinics with price estimates and procedures. This time feels different because I actually know what I want vs before I only had a rough idea of what I wanted. The doctors can only work with what you have, so I never went in expecting something that was so incompatible with my facial structure. This time around I'm planning to go for epi/canthoplasty (trying to widen my eyes horizontally), ptosis correction again, revision rhinoplasty, nose lengthening, facial lipo for jowls/accusculpt, lip augmentation (larger). All clinics unanimously said I needed nose lengthening. Otherwise they all kind of varied in their suggestions for my eyes.
  • Item: I messaged them on Saturday night and received a response right away (totally wasn't expecting that). Suggested epi but not canthoplasty, and said I could benefit from deviation correction w/ lengthening. I never realized I could potentially have slight deviation, but I guess my nose is a tad bit crooked. I just attributed it to human nature and nothing being perfectly symmetrical. I think it will be better to determine deviation or not in person. Didn't get estimates for the eyes/accusculpt, but revisional rhino starts at 4.5 million.
  • Cinderella: Ok my interaction was a little shaky with them at first. I was initially emailing with them and they asked me to send pictures of noses that I liked. They replied that the pictures I sent were different styles and to choose which style I wanted. I replied back and then they never responded back. I was going to just cross them off my list after that, but then decided to contact via Kakao. The consultant Haley responded quickly and all was well again lol. She said that my eyes were already big, but there was some asymmetry that could be corrected with canthoplasty. Of course Item had advised against canthoplasty so an in-person consult is most important! She too suggested nose lengthening, but said my nose does not show deviation so...alrighty. Waiting to hear back about prices.
  • ID: Not really interested in going here, but just emailed out of curiosity. Revision rhinoplasty starts at 6 million and accusculpt 2.3 million.
  • iWell: Never heard about this clinic, but just found from a basic Google search. Revision rhino starts at 4 million, accusculpt 2 million
  • Banobagi: Revision rhino 6.4 to 9.9 million. Accusculpt is 3.3 million. Nope. Nope. No. Immediately crossed them off my list. Yes they're famous and their results are fine, but not outstanding enough to pay such high prices. This is just way too high. Didn't inquire any further. Bye bye!
  • Wonjin: Quick response. Advised against more epi, but suggested lateral canthoplasty. Nose extension and facial lipo suggested. Didn't respond with prices. (Man, you really have to dig it out of all these clinics!)
  • GNG: This is a clinic I haven't heard of before until recently when searching through Purse Forum. I like how they specialize in the "functional" part of rhinoplasty, because you know being able to breathe is sort of important. I noticed they had a promotion of being a model for rhino. I applied, did not get chosen, but they offered a 30%-50% discount if I wrote reviews etc. I would have to pay a $500 deposit. Ok, so discounts like that are great, but what if after the in-person consult I didn't want to have surgery with them? Will I be able to get my $500 deposit back? The answer, "Sorry, the deposit is not refundable even if you decide not to have a surgery after the consultation ;)" What the actual f*ck...can you say daylight robbery?
To be continued...

You mentioned you need to “maintain” your plastic surgery, and it’s not a one procedure thing. I’m curious to know why you said that? For ptosis and epi, wouldn’t it be fixed in the first surgery?

Haha I’m curious coz I want to do ptosis and DES.

Not exactly, GNG’s refund policy varies depends on the prior notice you give for cancellation. This is what their translator informed me via Kakao after I specifically inquired about it.

<Deposit Refund>
1) 1 week before sugery appointment : 100% refund
2) 6-3 days before surgery appointment: 50% refund
3) 2 days-surgery day : non-refundable
When you get deposit refund, the transfer fee will be deducted from your deposit.

It is very common to not get a refund though. I asked about refunds at a few clinics and a lot of them do have a no refund on deposit policy of varying degrees.

Ptosis doesn’t last forever and can be subject to just natural aging, sagging, and slippage of the muscle. For example a facelift won’t necessarily last forever for some, just like ptosis correction. Rhinoplasty is pretty much an art form, and implants shift, cartilage fades. That’s what I meant about maintaining.
