madambutterfly89 Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 I had cheekbone reduction in the past and will now need a bone graft to reconstruct my cheekbones back out. I was wondering if anyone knows which type of bone graft cause less bone reasorption over time? Skull, iliac crest or cadaver?
widecheekbones Posted August 7, 2018 Posted August 7, 2018 Skull or iliac crest bone grafting sounds a bit more invasive than necessary. I think either cadaver bone or a preformed hydroxyapatite block would work fine. From my understanding and research, cadaver bone and hydroxyapatite get resorbed over time and promote new bone growth and eventually get replaced by new bone.
widecheekbones Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Day 10 Post Op Cheeklift The pain when I eat and smile is gone ! Except I am having some problems with my healing and I will be seeing my nurse later today. The swelling decreased up to Day 7 where I could start seeing my face underneath all the swelling, but swelling on my right eye just shot up in the last three days. This morning I woke up with my right eye almost swollen shut, followed by a hurried call to my plastic surgeon's office. Worried it may be a hematoma or seroma and that it may compromise the results. Hopefully everything goes well. ><
madambutterfly89 Posted August 10, 2018 Author Posted August 10, 2018 How do you know cadaver one help with promoting new bone growth? Someone actually mentioned hat cadaver resorbs the most.
widecheekbones Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 I've read that some surgeons use cadaver bone or hydroxyapatite when widening the chin or vertically lengthening the chin. Over a period of time, our own bone grows into the material at the same time it is resorbing.
