  1. It seem that O & Young uses rib for primary and revision (according to the descriptions on the patient's photos). I'm not sure if they use rib 100% on the nose because the descriptions also use other materials (ear cartilage, etc...). I personally only want to use rib for my entire nose, which is why I've decided to go with VIP. It's so hard to find a doctor (besides Dr. Jung) who uses rib 100%. By the way, VIP quoted me $8,000, and Dr. Lee has been using rib cartilage for over 10 years. It's pricey, but they offer free airport pick up/drop off service, free aesthetic services to help with deswelling, and other services. I love O & Young's results, but they weren't accommodating at all even though I told them that I was a foreigner coming just to have surgery- they didn't seem to care. VIP was the complete opposite, and I value good service. You want to hear something kind of weird and interesting? VIP told me that they do not use general anesthesia for rib cartilage rhinoplasty unless the patient is a huge man. It's because the surgery takes about 5 hours and being under general anesthesia for that long really affects the patient's throat from the breathing tube. I was kind of freaked out, but they said not to worry because I won't feel any pain. I didn't even think that it was possible to cut a person open without general anesthesia. They assured me that it will be fine and that they use rib cartilage every day.

I agree that I'm not that impressed with Dr. Jung's work either. I heard that he does a lot of revisions on his own patients. He's qualified to perform rhinoplasty because he's an E.N.T., but I'm not sure how he's qualified to perform other procedures because he's not a plastic surgeon. In Korea, you don't need to be a board certified plastic surgeon to perform plastic surgery as long as you're a surgeon (how scary). An E.N.T. does not have the artistic element that plastic surgeons have.

  2. I'm trying to decide between O & Young and VIP. Both clinics use a lot of rib cartilage, but they are expensive. I live in the U.S. where a reputable doctor would charge $25,000 or higher for revision using rib cartilage, so I guess it's a lot cheaper in Korea compared to here. I'll be 19 years post op when I finally get my revision (I wrote about my experience in a prior page)...lol...

Yes, $9,500 does seem pricey, but having the experience and expertise to use rib cartilage is crucial. I've done a ton of research, and most Korean doctors don't like using rib cartilage because it's too difficult (they don't possess the appropriate skills). You don't want to go to a doctor who uses rib cartilage once in a while... you want to go to a doctor who uses it all the time. This makes all the difference and why some patients experience problems (warping, higher resorption) while others never experience them. Keep in mind that just because a doctor is really good at rhinoplasty does not mean that he'll be good at rhinoplasty using and carving rib cartilage.

I'm not sure if O & Young's price will be any lower than Dr. Jung. Did you contact the clinic? O & Young quotes prices in KWN, which is better than USD. Which clinic's aesthetic style appeals to you more? Dr. Jung and O & Young's styles are completely different. O & Young's style is all about luxury and dramatic "celebrity style" results (according to their website and blog), which might not be for everybody.

  3. I don't know if chin implant was used because the clinic uses different approaches to correct the mouth and chin.
    http://www.koclub.com/face/sub_face04.php

I have no idea what the clinic charges for mouth and chin implant. As for using rib cartilage, revision starts at 6,900,000. I'm sure the price includes tip plasty, but I'm not sure about alar plasty. They're not cheap, but I think the results speak for themselves. Not a lot of clinics in Korea specialize in rib cartilage rhinoplasty, and this clinic is one of the very few that I found.

  4. A lot of clinics in Korea correct protruding mouth along with rhinoplasty, but I seriously doubt that the price will be any lower than the Chinese doctor. I couldn't access the photos on the websites that I've been researching for my revision except for O & Young. Here are some examples.

Rib cartilage was used on all of the pictures shown. I'm not sure if it was just used on the tip or the entire nose.

  5. Hi Milk
I've read reviews about O & Young from former patients on some blogs on www.naver.com (Korean site).

As for Dr. Jung, I don't see why he wouldn't be good at first rhinplasty if he's good at revisions. Revisions are a lot more challenging, so it takes more skill and experience. I personally don't like Dr. Jung's style of noses, but I heard he's a good doctor, extremely caring, and provides excellent after care. I also can't get passed the fact that he's not a board certified plastic surgeon- he's an ENT. I know it sounds silly, but I can't help it.

Are you planning on using rib cartilage? I'll send you an email.

  6. VIP told me that other cartilages would not be enough for me and that using rib would be the best. I'm not sure how the doctor can tell by just looking at my picture. I don't have a wide nose, but it is short and contracted because of the negative effect of silicone.

About O & Young... let me clarify what I said. The clinic refuses to schedule a surgery date ahead of time. I explained to the girl that I would like to have surgery the day after consultation, but she said that I must do a consultation first before the surgery date can be reserved. She said that it could take up to a week until I can have surgery. This doesn't work for me because I only have 2 weeks, and I want to maximize my time.

I'm going to call them back in late June and explain to them that I will be traveling to Seoul specifically for nose surgery. I will kindly ask them to please reserve a surgery date for me ahead of time. If I am absolutely certain that O & Young is the clinic for me, then I will even offer to put down a deposit. From all the pictures I've seen and reviews I've read on independent websites, it seems like a good clinic. I just hope that they're accommodating...I'll keep you posted.

  7. I've actually heard of this technique, but I didn't know that doctors in Korea used it. I wonder why more doctors don't use it? VIP clinic told me that using rib cartilage is the only option for me...

I'm going to Korea at the end of August.

  8. Verity1975,

I can't seem to send you a private message. I'll try to send you one as soon as you can receive them.

Yes, I would absolutely appreciate your help. I think $10,000 is a great price for all the procedures you had. I also want to get eyelid surgery and fillers. I didn't want to spend more than $5,000 to $6,000 on my nose, but I'm flexible if it's the right doctor. I've found other nose specialists that are a lot cheaper than VIP, but I really don't have the time to have too many consultations because I need to take pre-operative tests. Most importantly, I have to agree with the doctor's aesthetic style.

  9. Your post really piqued my interest, so I called VIP earlier to speak with Joann- it's her day off so I sent her an email instead. You know what's weird? The girl I spoke with on the phone today told me that revision rhinoplasty using rib cartilage is 8,000,000, which is a lot cheaper than what Joann quoted me. I really don't like it when clinics quote prices in U.S. dollar.

What did you think of Dr. Lee's work when you reviewed his before/after photos? I can't access the photo gallery on the Korean website, but the few before/after photos that is on the English website is not really my style. I prefer O & Young's style where the results are extremely dramatic, but I'm keeping all of my options open. Perhaps the patients requested those types of noses. Did you get to choose a style of nose, or did you leave it up to Dr. Lee? I'll send you a PM!

  10. The phone number is 02-517-4528 and 4529. I don't know what their email address is because I contacted them by phone.

  11. Where in your head was the cartilage taken out? Do you know the name of the cartilage? This is so fascinating. Is the cartilage prone to resorption, warping, or migration like rib cartilage? Before the surgery, what kind of nose did you have?

  12. I did check out VIP and was contacted by a woman named Joanne, but their price was the most expensive ($8,000 for revision).

  13. For those of you who are interested, here's another clinic where the doctor uses rib cartilage. It's called LeeJung Aesthetic Surgical Clinic- http://www.1004clinic.com/1004abroad/english.html

I also have a consultation at this clinic, and it's one of my top contenders. Dr. Lee, who specializes in nose and eyes, has personally been corresponding with me via emails. He's extremely courteous, friendly, and nice. He's not pushy at all, and he advised me to wait until after the consultation to make a decision. The revision price using rib cartilage (donated or autologous) is 4,500,000 KWN, which is an excellent price. The price is probably more attractive because the clinic is not located in the really expensive area of Kangnam. Even though I've read good reviews, I'm unable to access the photos on the website.

What I also like about this clinic is that they have an officetel (building with apartments and offices) where foreigners can stay for 30,000/night (around $27). The officetel and the clinic are in the same building. The clinic also has a hair washing station where patients can get their hair washed after surgery.

I've talked to so many clinics and received so many consultations that I am extremely overwhelmed with information overload. Please feel free to PM me because I have heard back from a lot of clinics. In the meantime, I will post about clinics that I feel is worthwhile.

  14. I called the clinic because clinics in Korea don't seem to have a problem giving price estimates over the phone. You won't receive an accurate price until you have a consultation though. I scheduled a consultation, but the girl said that I won't be able to have surgery until the following week. She said that if I use rib cartilage, then the doctor would have to take out the chest stitches 2 weeks after the surgery. You would have to get them taken out where you live if you can't stay in Korea for 2 weeks. I believe the clinic also uses irradiated donated rib cartilage. They of course also use alloplastic implants as well, and those results look quite nice and natural too.

I'm sorry, but I don't know the price for first rhinoplasty. Revisions are usually 1.5 to 2 times the price of first rhinoplasty. I hope this helps.

  15. As I mentioned previously, I'm going to Seoul this summer for revision rhinoplasty. I've been researching a lot of clinics. I've talked to a lot of clinics on the phone, received online consultations, and read reviews on Naver (Korea's biggest search engine).

I came across O & Young (http://www.koclub.com/index.php), and they seem really good with noses. My research focus is on clinics that specialize in nose and revisions.

Check out some of these before and after pictures. There are a lot more pictures on their website.

What do you guys think? They seem good, but the prices are really steep. I like how the doctors use various materials. They seem to use a lot of rib. The website discusses how they use a technique where they only make a 2 cm (almost half the incision size of Dr. Dean Toriumi) incision on the chest to harvest rib cartilage. Apparently it's their special technique.

I tried to make an appointment, but the girl kept saying that I can't have surgery soon after the consultation. She kept saying that it takes about a week. She said that revisions start at 6,900,000 KW- so expensive!

  16. I sent you a private message.

Good luck, and keep us informed with your search!

  17. Hi Milk,
I'm not on MSN, but I can email you.
One clinic that is really popular with the locals is http://coanco.co.kr/. They specialize in rhinoplasty, so they use various methods. I'll let you know if I come across any other clinics besides the ones I previously mentioned. My cousin is supposed to do some research for me.

I've never encountered a clinic that uses septal cartilage for the bridge. Most use rib, dermal fat, or implants, but you never know.

  18. Hello, how is your recovery coming along? I can't believe the nurse tried to kick you out of the recovery room. It doesn't surprise me from what I've heard about BK.
What did you have done to you nose? Good luck with your healing!

  19. Cottoncandy77,

AT Clinic's website is http://www.atro.co.kr/, but there is no English version (Dr. speaks English). I have difficulty navigating the website because I can read Korean, but my vocabulary knowledge is limited.

Jas3n from the first forum had surgery at this clinic after he visited a bunch.

When you went to Samsung, was irradiated homologous rib an option for you? When I asked Samsung and a few other clinics about it, they seemed surprised that I would even ask such a question because they said I would of course have to use my own rib. Samsung also recommended rib, but they didn't give me a price estimate. Do you know how much they charge? Dr. Park at AT said that I would also use my own. I'm not sure if you're interested, but Dr. Park also works with goretex.

I asked some clinics if dermal fat is permanent, and they all said yes. How much absorption did you experience? Are you satisfied with your tip?

Did Samsung know that you were going to have consultations in other clinics too? If so, they didn't mind picking you up at the airport anyway? I'm sorry for so many questions, but you're the only one I know who had surgery at Samsung.

  20. After much research over two years, I finally decided to go to Korea for my revision rhinoplasty this summer. I've consulted with doctors in the U.S., Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, and India. Some of the doctors in India seem really good, but their email responses are rather short.

I still haven't decided on the doctor yet, but I do know that I want to get it done in Korea. That is where I got my first rhinoplasty when I was 14 (a long time ago). I was too young, and I don't think my nose was finished growing. The doctor used silicone to augment my bridge and ear cartilage for the tip (closed approach). The results weren't bad, but he was conservative because of my age. The silicone has negatively changed my nose over the years. It's not the doctor's fault that silicone sucks, and there weren't many options back then. Thankfully I never had any complications, but it has made my nose short and saddle shaped with an upturned tip. I will NEVER use silicone ever again. I want it taken out soon because I heard it gets worse after the 20 year mark, and I'm almost there. I'm looking for a permanent solution. Silicone is just an easy, cheap, quick fix that only looks nice temporarily.

I sent out about a dozen emails to clinics, but I haven't received many responses. I ruled out a few clinics that kept trying to convince me to use silicone again even though I strongly oppose it. I can speak and understand Korean (my mom is Korean), so I called a few clinics. So far, I like Samsung Aesthetic Clinic, AT Clinic, and JW Beauty. Samsung and JW are recommending dermal fat graft for the bridge. AT is recommending rib, and the price is reasonable. I'll probably just have in person consultations in Korea and decide after the consultations. I was impressed with AT because when I called, the lady put the doctor on the phone when I told her that the doctor and I have corresponded through email. Plus I love the fact that he's a member of ISAPS. He was extremely friendly and answered all of my questions. JW Beauty is known for handling difficult revision cases. Samsung and JW offer airport pick up service. Do you think it's rude to have a clinic pick you up at the airport when you intend on having consultations at other clinics too?

By the way, my mom tracked down the surgeon who did my first rhinoplasty. He's still practicing in Kangnam after almost 20 years. He's supposed to write me back, but I still haven't heard from him. His clinic is offering to do a revision at a steep discount. They don't charge that much to begin with anyway. I suppose he still wouldn't be in business if he wasn't good. Would you guys go back to the same doctor?

My mom also said to stay away from clinics that cater to foreigners because they definitely over charge. She said that any doctor in Kangnam is just as good or even better. I'm sorry that this is such a long post!
