  1. I was just thinking about how one of my surgeons looks a lot younger on his website photo (Dr. Kang at JW Plastic Surgery). I didn't check that out much when my consultant first mentioned him. When I met him in person, I was glad to see he seemed to be in mid 40's- mid 50's. I was thinking: "here's a guy who has been doing multiple surgeries of the same genre each week, he must know what he's doing." By that time, if that's your main, basically only career, you should be really excellent at what you do, in my view. What do you think?

I was glad that I didn't focus on his more youthful website photo, because that might-might have deterred me; I visited another clinic, where many of the doctors seemed quite young in their photos ( someone that worked there even mentioned that - which immediately put me on alert. That comment was actually a deterrent, even though it was a huge generalization. Running out of time, I didn't even finish my whole consultation there and just went to JW where I had other appointments set up that day. My rhino doctor (Dr. Suh) there appeared to be older in photos/videos and his look also matched what I saw in person. I felt assured.

Thus far, I'm pretty impressed with them both. If they have grey hairs, seems like they've earned them. At what age do you think is the height of one's surgical career and when do you think it declines? I did some consults in the US and one doctor seemed older (60's?), his office even felt out-of-date. I never seriously considered him, but appreciated the consult time.

  2. My aunt had her eyes done in the US and it did not turn out well. She came back to Korea to have them fixed. Based on that and how good the services are here, I would not recommend someone do that in the US. I don't know where she went, but I do think it is true that a doctor who specializes in this, based here (I am in Seoul now), is going to have A LOT more experience with it. Wishing you a speedy, smooth recovery. Enjoy your results!

  3. @Madambutterfly89 very sorry to hear that is happening to you. I think you are right about FC for the longest lasting result, but maybe thread lifting for something temporary (I don't know anything about threads, but have heard of it)

Is anyone wondering what is next for Rene? She had (past tense) that job. What is she doing now? Maybe looking to augment her Youtube presence?

  4. Thanks for posting the video. She has some good points, especially about media ( or the patients themselves) portrayal about it being so easy. The shadow doctor thing is pretty scary, but I think some clinics address this by having recorded video surveillance -- I seem to remember seeing that on some websites and wondering what it was used for. The doctor having a hangover...that is scary to think someone might not have had a good nights sleep before a long surgery. Definitely seems possible. I guess one could specifically ask such questions before surgery. Yeah it would stick out as odd, but better to ask about the surgeon. I know of patients in the US that wonder about the doctors mental/physical state before surgery with regards to all kinds of elective/non-elective surgery. It is an issue concern everywhere. However, if you are in a facility where the doctors perform a few surgeries each day - you can only hope you are not the patient when the doctor is on his 3 or 4th job and he/she is tired...I guess that is another question we could ask. Hope no one here encounters these issues!

  5. I made a deposit, as I have a limited amount of time in Korea. While it does feel like a bit of a gamble, if you do enough research, hopefully your expectations (at least at the pre-op level) should not be that far from reality. If you go in for the 1:1 in person and really hear something that deters you, I think losing the deposit sucks, but in the long run, you won't regret losing it if you really have a better option that you want.

  6. wow, that's really good advice.
